This say more about these three musicians than it says about Phil Collins. He was my idol when I started playing drums in the mid 80’s, and I love the style of his early songs. A huge staple of the 80’s musical landscape.

FACT: Gary Glitter has received millions of pounds in royalty payments from the brothers Gallagher - and to this day still receives them - for the use of Glitter's music in the Oasis song 'Hello!!' This could've been stopped by the removal of the song 'Hello' from all future pressings of the What's The Story album, but they have not done this which kind of suggests that they are happy with Glitter getting the money!! This is totally sickening!!

I'm really not a fan of his middle of the road pop or indeed later Genesis, but you cannot take away the fact that he is/was an absolute top class drummer and a good singer. You only have to listen to The Cinema Show or Nuclear Burn (Brand X) to hear that. I have a friend who is 20 years younger than me and he had no idea that Phil Collins was even a drummer as well as a singer. When I played those aforementioned tracks to him (he's also a drummer) his reaction was "who the hell are those drummers? They're sh*t hot."

Phil was a giant. He's better in retrospect than I gave him credit for at the time. His solo career was *almost* as big as Genesis. (No small feat!)

Im not the biggest fan of his solo stuff and I'm pretty neutral on the eighties genesis output but i love his work with genesis in the early to mid seventies and its hard not to recognize wether your love him or hate him, he's been extremely influential both in terms of commercial 80s pop which was massive for a reason as well as remaining one of the most influential drummers of all time. You just need to look at the drumeo documentary on him recently and even if you don't like him, you can't deny how many musicians he's influenced and so people like noel Gallagher constantly trying to slag him off at every turn when especially on a worldwide scale, phil Collins has had far more of an impact than he's had

I, for one think Phil is incredibly talented, and I loved his early albums with Genesis with Gabriel singing as well as his switch to vocals on Trick of the Tail and Wind and wuthering, but I must admit that I agree with the disdain for his solo work. With the exception of In the air Tonight, it was a bit too poppy and commercial for me. Especially where he came from the progressive rock mold. I think Phil knew what sold so he sold out all the way.

I hated Phil in the 80s and 90s, but comparing him to the music of today I think he was a genius...well not a genius, but a good singer and songwriter. Noel and Roger I really hate. I think Phil really did good music and sold lots of albuns as any other. And he likes miniature trains, like me, so he surely must be an excellent person. He also is/was one of the best drummers in the world, imo.

I love Phil…A to Z. Loved his voice, phrasing & vocal work for Genesis way more than Peter’s. But, thought Peter’s solo material was incredible! Phil is a multi instrumental-musical genius! PERIOD!!! Some artists have more that just one style of music in them! Look at the range of the Beatles, Elton, The Who, Rush, Prince, Neal Morse Band, etc. Look at the difference between Yes “Relayer” and Yes “Owner of a Lonely Heart!”

John Wetton said Colllins was the best drummer he ever worked with. Chester Thompson must have rated him. If you listen carefully to early Genesis and Brand X you will see why he was one if the best ever.

Really? Weston, of course, also worked with Bill Bruford. Bruford and Collin’s were actually friends and Bruford toured with Genesis when Gabriel left. I got to see them together. Quite amazing. It;s my understanding (could easily be wrong about this, read it a while back) that they had a falling out based on Collins dumping his wife. Bruford’s wife and Collins’ wife were close friends.

@@mikesimon1867 Yes, I know it was, but after Gadd was first convicted in the late 90's, don't you think the right thing to do was to erase the song 'Hello' from all future copies of the album and replace it with something else in order to prevent Gadd from receiving any further royalty payments?? Since then of course, he's been convicted and jailed for further serious offences, yet the song remains on the album and Gadd receives a royalty percentage from every copy sold!! Obviously we're all different and we all think in different ways, but EVERY right thinking decent person must agree that Gadd continuing to receive a huge amount of money is dead wrong!! Clearly the brothers Gallagher don't agree, shame on them!!

I think they could've done that easily, but the truth is they just don't care which is absolutely scandalous!! I didn't know they'll have ownership of their catalogue later this year as you've said!! Let's see if they take the song off then?? I'm very inclined to believe they won't but the damage has already been done anyway!! As much as I can't stand Lady GaGa, at least she deleted a duet she did with R. Kelly from her entire discography and that particular song is no longer available to be purchased, so that kind of makes a mockery of your comment!!
