We're always on the look for safety solutions for our own personal cars, and this Viofo A229 Plus could be a good solution for those who want total protection around their car, and can be very helpful for ride-share drivers who want an interior-facing camera. In this video we go over the accessories that come in the box with this unit, along with some of the important technical specifications. Good points! The way I installed mine should avoid any of exit paths for the airbags on my S-Class, but it's a good idea to find a reputable shop that would know enough to take that into consideration. I've been happy with this unit overall, I dont drive the car much but it's good knowing I have 3 angles covered in case anything happens.

So, I really want to know if you can read license plate numbers off of captured stills. It would be great if they were also readable at night but sadly I don't think my trying to check that from your youtube video makes any sense and I have read some discussion that most dash cams really suck for that kind of detail.

I took my S-Class out today in the snow, and had this running. I'll pull the footage and see how it looks. I haven't driven the car at night yet, and won't be for a while but it's something I'm interested in testing out too.

There is a polarizing filter that came in my kit which I’m planning to install and try out, I wanted to run it without for a bit to get some baseline data to compare with. It’s one downside of having a grey/light leather dash versus black.

Doesn't the angle make it hard to see (rather that being able to adjust it to a vertical position) ???

The angle of what part? I've got mine positioned pretty well, I'm happy with the angles all 3 cameras capture. I think I've got good coverage around the vehicle should I ever need it.

As I showed in the video I was able to hide most of it without much trouble. I’m sure if I pulled some panels I could hide it all.

-> Please tell Viofo to let the front camera record @ 60 FPS in "Automatic HDR" mode during the time period when HDR is off! Becuase now 60 fps are only possible, if HDR is turned off completely.

Depends on what you need though, I didn’t use the hard wire kit, and I had spare memory cards should I needed one.

@@PRNTestDrive Hi there, I am looking at purchasing this as my first dash cam, but not sure if I need the hard wire kit ? Do you have any insight on what it is used for? I read that it would help with parked recording. If I get it installed as you have, does the front dashcam need to be connected to the cigarette area (and then make it messy)? TIA, I am very clueless on how this all works and I have been watching so many installation videos.

The hardwire kit essentially allows you to connect the unit directly to the car's battery, bypassing a USB or 12V outlet. The kit is designed to run all the time, so you'd have recording while the vehicle is off/parked, with an automatic shut off if the battery of the car drops below it's starting capabilities. Personally I didn't bother with the hard wire kit, my S-Class is already electronically complicated enough and I wasn't interested in adding more complexity to it, but many people do buy a hardwire kit for their dashcams.
