Unlike a lot of the Rolling Stone polls, and understanding nobody will be happy with "top anything" lists, this is much better than I expected. Good job covering the different angles of metal, not peddling much of the lighter hair metal as actual metal, and not just piling on the obvious choices.
@casualnerd46155 ай бұрын
It is still actual metal, but it is Glam Metal, so it's going to just be more pop influenced or Glam Rock Influenced, it being Lighter has nothing to do with it being metal or not. It's not that they aren't metal song, but most metal fans(insufferable as we are) would not, if asked: "Pick your top 5 Metal Songs of all time" are not putting Pour some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard up there, Warrant's Cherry Pie, or like any of Guns and Roses has had Glam Metal songs. But I do agree, they actually did a really good job covering a lot more of the genre than I expected. The only thing I'd genuinely want changed on the list is I'd put Tornado of Souls over Holy Wars and I feel like Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath should have made the list.
@MrMOGHammer3 ай бұрын
@@casualnerd4615 well Dio already had the spotlight on 2 songs, so that was Ozzie's turn to have a second spot. Tornado of Souls is good too. But maybe a little less known than holy wars. Just a little... time to use the word underrated

I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to live my life as a die-hard Metalhead. Sitting here watching this video and knowing I've seen nearly all of the bands on this list live in their heyday is awesome. Thinking back now at 54 years old, after 300+ shows, I realize that being a Metalhead since I was 11 had brought me to places unknown to me by travelling to see shows in over 10 States and three different countries. I have had more fun than a human being should be allowed to have due to Metal music. Metalheads are beautiful people who look kind of intimidating, but once you get to know us we are just freaking fun to be around. We can be loud though. Very loud. \m/ Great list by the way!

@vacavapes55005 ай бұрын
It doesn't say "best" it says "top" which is basically click bait for us to comment. You add another adjective to top and it can become a lot of different things. Whoever put this list together is obviously in at least their 50s. You really had to be raised in the 80s to understand this list. Younger people miss a lot because the only thing they know about that era is hair bands and the big 4. There was so much more going on. So many bands that influenced for example Metallica or they out right stole from.

Heavy metal represents an escape for me and also provided me with a sense of belonging. I grew up in a home with addiction. I was also bullied relentlessly due to having a disability (legally blind). I was able to blast death metal to drown out negativity, and being in a mosh pit in my younger years is where I felt most at home. I'm in my late 30s now, and I still predominately listen to various metal genres, always discovering new artists on a weekly basis. I guess, as cliche as it sounds, metal is a savior for me.

Big metalhead here, love all kinds. But to me Black Sabbath created metal and yet they are still the best of all time. They had a grooviness that has just remained unmatched. Someone told me that they are the heaviest jazz band of all time and to me it makes a lot of sense. There's just something about that time period, bluesy heavy metal, the absolute prime there. It has a rawness and grittiness that more modern music has lost. Sabbath in the 70s, Slayer, Maiden & and Metallica in the 80s, Pantera in the 90s, Deftones late 90s, early 2000s. They all just had it and had that raw, aggressive sound, fuck yeah. I'm about to go listen to Master of Reality right now from start to finish 🤘

Thank you for the walk down memory lane! Back when MTV actually played music and Headbanger's Ball was in it's hey day! But.... Battery was a much better song than Master Of Puppets... It hit harder and showed more range. I'll die on that hill!

Calm down metal heads. This was a nice effort for an impossible task, Watchmojo. I enjoyed it nevertheless

I wanna try and make a better list. It likely won't make everyone happy, but this list is such an odd collection of songs to call the best that I wanna try and do better. I'll try to keep 1 song per band so this list isn't just Black Sabbath and Metallica with other random stuff mixed in. I should also add that, I tried to keep song choices (with the exception of a couple) hard to argue whether or not they should be considered metal. You can argue about the band all you like, but the song itself is a metal song. I also wanted to pick songs that had importance to the growth of metal, songs that were influential in some way. 1. Master of Puppets - Metallica 2. War Pigs - Black Sabbath 3. Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne 4. Seasons in the Abyss - Slayer 5. Kickstart my Heart - Motley Crue 6. Holy Wars - Megadeth 7. Hallowed be thy name - Iron Maiden 8. Painkiller - Judas Priest 9. Blind - Korn 10. Panama - Van Halen 11. Caught in A Mosh - Anthrax 12. Reject Yourself - Killswitch Engage 13. Subdivisions - Rush 14. Holy Diver - Dio 15. Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine 16. Domination - Pantera 17. Vicarious - Tool 18. Chop Suey! - System of a Down 19. Tears Don't Fall - Bullet for My Valentine 20. Killed by Death - Motorhead 21. Doomsday - Architects 22. Unholy Confessions - Avenged Sevenfold 23. Shadow Moses - Bring me the Horizon 24. Achilles Last Stand - Led Zeppelin 25. Burn in Hell - Twisted Sister 26. Heavy Metal - Sammy Hagar 27. War Inside My Head - Suicidal Tendencies 28. Thunder and Lightning - Thin Lizzy 29. Psychosocial - Slipknot 30. The Summoning - Sleep Token

It's not easy to come out with good lists. I think you do a really good job. Nice mix of different metal sounds. Everyone can agree to disagree but overall it's one of the better lists I've seen on KZbin. One negative comment Disturbed should of been left off the list. I'm not a fan of them on any level. I could come up with 25 better choices on the spot.

Great video! But can't believe there is no 'A Light in the Black' by Rainbow.

Venom - Teacher's Pet would have been fun. I love Pantera and Cemetery Gates, would still have picked Floods. But I like the list.

That should have been called the top metal from 80 to 90 with the exception of the band that gave us the name of the music. I don't mind i was young but remember the 80s well!!. Heavy metal means the world to me;!

My comment AFTER watching the video. Most of this is the origins of heavy metal. Should be titled Top 30 INFLUENTIAL Heavy Metal Songs of All Time. 30-13 are good songs and definitely influenced what was to come but wasn't I listened too. 12-1 IS exactly what I listened too.

Mercyful Fate, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Ronnie James Dio. As a huge Metallica fan I'm aware these are some their main influences.

You know you can't make a list like this without raising controversy, music is subjective and everyone will have different opinions.

Painkiller is Judas Priest's best song for me. Just an absolute banger. But all their songs are bangers.
