Amen, prefer to have someone expect me to meet standards than blow sunshine up my skirt, literally had to beg a manager to give me real feedback instead of covering for me. Announced in a group management meeting I screwed up and let them down and felt that was unacceptable. Needed to say it as I value my integrity. Next line was I'm sorry and take full responsibility then apologized to the affected individuals for my mistake. Owning up is the most difficult thing to do but I knew it was right...

@@rsinclair689 I wish I was as brave as you. I'd have had to just tell my boss in a quiet room on there own. But I think when you enjoy your work and colleagues accountability always shines through. I've worked agency jobs and nothing like that would ever happen. All the colleagues are fighting for a handful of contracts to become permanent so you can image the line of thinking people had. Quality inspections were shit shows. No one owned up for a thing. Sabotage as well, you'd think it was a dystopia. It was like working at Shawshank in King's Landing. You seem really nice and honest. I hope it all went well for you after that.

Same, had a guy who wouldn't give me any slack when I was failing at my job, he would tell things straight and wouldn't sugar coat a single thing. While the man completely earned my respect through how he behaved as an employer, he managed to also become a mentor figure, and an even more incredible friend. He'd even regularly show up to work, scare me half to death by shoving a box of pizza in my chest out of nowhere when I was doing well regularly. Then, on the days I fuck up, he'd stand me up and explain every last bit of how I messed up and ask me if that's my best. Ever since then, whenever I've worked for a place, if a boss can earn that respect, I can't help but put every last ounce into it. Good bosses/management are the things that keep businesses running, because they'll inspire their workers to absolutely dominate their jobs.

I had one of those managers back when I worked at a bar. He was kind but expected the best out of his workers. Sadly, a week or two before we were set to reopen following our 2-year long COVID pause, he passed away in his sleep. Damn, I miss him. One of the best managers I ever got to work under. I've moved on to my career since then, but have never forgotten him.

So this show came to a bar a couple blocks from my house a few years ago and we went all the meetings and stuff that were involved for the show and I can tell you that the bartenders and the owners and the servers who work at these bars are not actors they are still there from beginning to end and typically follow-ups. The people who could be almost considered plants would be all your neighborhood gawkers who are coming in and flocking to the bar because John taffer is in town at our local bar. And John taffer is definitely an a****** in real life and will call you those names on and off camera. The cook at the bar that we live near ended up quitting and going off to a different bar. Something interesting we learned is when they visit your bar they force you to take down all of your alcohol in your bar and replace it with their alcohol for the entire duration of the shooting. Then once they leave they take it all back and you can put your stuff back up but whatever changes that they did for you you are obligated to do for 6 months to a year per contract.

Hey dude, Jon's off doin' Jon things so lemme step in. Quit being self-destructive. Yeah, your life sucks. It's an empty shell of an existence you limp through day by day until one day your brain decides it's not worth booting up and someone finds you dead in bed three days later because the place is starting to smell. And you know what? There's exactly one thing that's going to fix your situation. You need to fucking fortify, my dude. Every time life kicks you in the face, spit the fucking blood out, get back up, and challenge life to swing again. Start small. List out all the shit you need to get done today. Knock out half the list. Tomorrow, knock out half plus one. Once you're knocking out that list every day, set short-term goals. Once you start hitting those goals, set mid-term goals, then long-term. But all that ain't gonna amount to shit until you learn to fortify and push back when life starts kicking you. Be steel, my dude, not glass.
