Added strongman style sandbags a few months ago. Using them for over-the-bar, carries, front squats. Pulling those into your chest and doing the above movements is AMAZING. The big 4, with pullups/dips, farmers walk, are pretty much my go to for lifting. Biking/running/concept 2 rower for cardio covers steady state and interval training. I love song intervals on the rower…warm up then slam a song, rest a song. Pick your interval numbers or go for time. Funtimes.

The only one I do not do is the no 5. Love the functional aspect of weight training . A pull-up / chin-up is rather more a realistic measure of upper body strength than say a press-up ? I do the "Big Four" too ...with barbells, dumbells, kettlebells, sandbags ....each challenges you differently .....so many variations of the "carries/weighted loads" too ...

I really liked using a GHR when I found one in a commercial gym. My work gym has a GHR/reverse hyper combined machine and I don't quite love it as much (probably how tye pad is set up, bit of a compromise). I do absolutely love doing weighted 45 degree back extensions for my posterior. Really hammers the glutes and hams. Also, I couldn't agree more about rows and pullups. My shoulders have really felt better since making those exercises a staple in my programming. With that said, I do wish I had access to more of the odd lift implements. I'd love to try a yoke carry, or be able to drag a sled around. I might just have to buy a sled for myself so i can just run up and down my street 😁

I do 3/5 of these consistently in my program. Carries and loading are something I don’t do very often as U focus primarily on power building, but thinking about it as a U type, using loading for a burnout exercise for the posterior chain would be a great idea.

Don't mean to be that guy, but a video or few back you mentioned you wanted to challenge yourself to 30 days of grease the groove to increase your pull ups from 10 to 30 (or something much higher) saying that most GTG methods only really talk about getting to 10 reps. How'd you fair?
@BrianAlsruheOfficial Жыл бұрын
That was literally a year ago and I had to stop because of my shoulder issue that I’m still dealing with. I still do the grease the groove a lot, but haven’t committed to 30 days straight until my shoulder gets fixed enough to pull it off and get some real results for you guys . But that video is coming!
@slipvyne Жыл бұрын
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial man time flies lately. I preference by saying I didn't want to be that guy but I was curious. I have shoulder issues too, I try to dead hang and I can only last 40s before I am trying to fight pain so that's the other side of why I was asking. I don't want to push it but I want to fix it. I try to grease the groove with dead hangs for 20s here and there and build up. Anyways, cheers Brian, you're an inspiration!

Brian, I hope you answer… what are your thoughts on the reverse hyper? I have a GHR in my garage gym and want a reverse hyper eventually!
@V8freaks Жыл бұрын
I would like to know your opinion on that as well :-)
@BrianAlsruheOfficial Жыл бұрын
I love the reverse hyper because of how many different ways they can be used. That said it’s a big footprint, and not particularly fun to perform the exercises so it is a tough investment. If you can find another way to rig up a bench or attachment so that you don’t need to buy the piece of equipment separately then I would advise that first if you have a smaller amount of room for equipment

I don’t think I would put anything with a Barbell in the loading category. It kind of needs to be an odd object, like a stone, keg, sand bag, or even dumb things like fire hydrants. But never barbells

@BrianAlsruheOfficial Жыл бұрын
I hope it is dry in the bottom as well, but why do you say that? Is there something I’m missing that I should know?
@Jimunu Жыл бұрын
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial I'm far from a firewood expert and I'm probably far more north than you are but my impression from helping father in law stack away firewood that he bought and got in a pile that we let lay there awhile, is that usually the bottom is more humid. So my guess is that it is harder for the wood on the bottom to dry if it has rained on the pile or wood touches the ground. And your pile is far larger than the one he gets. But I'm not sure.
