@@PrimeTimeAquatics Dear Jason (and Joanna of course), I've never enjoyed keeping fish more than since I've discovered your many videos and use them as guidelines and you're always so genuinely polite and caring. Sure I still struggle translating Fahrenheit into Celsius but at least I know now how many liters go into a gallon. Until now I never subscribed to any channel because I rather spend my little money on my fish and my cat but I am since today a proud Prime Timer 😊

I have a group of 6 honey gouramis in a planted community 75 gallon, and they're my favorite fish. Their social interactions with each other and other fish give them a ton of personality, and add a lot of entertainment into the tank.

great video, when I was young we kept Pearl gouramis, we had some that lived almost 12 years! Never bothered the other fish just a little harmless chasing between the gouramis.

I absolutely love my pearl. I started him in a 29 but he started to have some random aggression and thought he was getting too big for the tank so I moved him to my 40 gallon. He became a totally different fish and has doing great ever since.

Great video. There is one I still like is the kissing gourami. I know they can be aggressive. But I found that if you keep a pair with a semi-aggressive tank, they go at each other and leave the others alone. Just my experience.

Sparkling gourami also make clicking sounds when disputing territory. I have three sparkling gouramis in one tank and they made me I had a cricket in my room for the longest time until I saw them making the sound, it was too cool. Don't let this behavior be confused with the croaking gouramis which also make a sound but grow much larger.

My main problem with dwarf gouramis is that it is very difficult to find females for sale anywhere. No local shop sells them or can even order them, and I've found only one place online that sells females (mostly wild type). I got one of those to keep my cobalt blue male company, and she doesn't even need to be fed because she spends all day foraging for biofilm and microfauna among the plants and is healthy and plump.

I had a dwarf gourami live for two months then found dead at the bottom of the tank one morning after I got up. Never noticed anything wrong with it. Just died. One of I had it was in a 10 gallon quarantine tank for four weeks, then moved to my 20 gallon and survived there for another four weeks. In that tank is cherry barbs and ember tetras.

Definitely the honey gourami even though I've had bad luck with them so far. The next time I try I may get a pair of them for my 29H. My previous ones were singletons and never fully got over their shyness even though the other fish paid them no mind. I prefer the yellow but I am warming up to the orange.

In my early naive tank years I ended up with a male opaline and a male pearl in the same tank. They got along great! Yes, the opaline would get a little testy sometimes but they didn't kill each other or anything else. The opaline is really cool becayse their colors and lines and markings change based on in their mood seemingly. Pearls ftw though, so peaceful and very personable with people. My gouramis always wave at everyone! Ps i did get a male and female pearl and the female lost her mind and killed all the community fish one day. A supremely rare occurrence but it did happen.

I have a blue dwarf gourami and honey gourami in a 40 gallon who do okay together. The main thing I notice is the dwarf tends to stay towards the front of the tank while the honey stays in the middle back. Pearls are on my list to try but our local fish stores tend to not have them in stock very often for some reason. That's part of the reason I have the dwarf and honey ones instead.

I like the dwarf gouramis, but especially the regular colored ones. I had a group of them in a 50 gallon tank and they did quite well. I love opalines but they are toughies and the fighting gets tiresome at times., along with kissing gouramis in the right situation and kids love them.

Honey gourami are my favorite, but I would love to someday to have pearl, chocolate, and/or samurai, but I have very hard water, so two of those are somewhat unlikely without a fair bit more work on my part.

Jason, Great list but I haven’t been able to keep any gouramis alive. I tried the dwarf ones. I tried the paradise one. I haven’t tried the sparkling or the opaline or the pearl. I am so against keeping them because they die so fast. My water parameters are good to but the gouramis just seem to die so quickly. It’s. A planted tank to.

The honey gourami (Trichogaster chuna) is by far my favorite. If you can get the wild type, all the better. The bright yellow ones have been commercially raised with hormones, etc and just don't make for good pets. Some LFS sell only males, but I like the females better because of their temperament and natural look.

It’s not a “cheat” to put the blue, opaline, and gold gourami at #2, because they are all literally different color varieties of the same species, Trichopodus trichopterus. They’re also known as the three-spot gourami (the third spot is the eye) and the Cosby gourami. The wildtype is actually brown. They’re all the same type of fish. It’s like the different varieties of betta, dwarf gourami, angelfish, etc. So yes, if that’s on your list, it makes all the sense in the world to simply put a single species in the same slot. Of course, I’d put them at #1 and their congener, the pearl gourami at #2, but that’s just me. 😁
