Never take any notice of range claims. Walkie talkies never have the rage its claimed they have. In built up areas you'd be lucky to get from a building to the one next door to it. It might pick up a ham radio for quite a distance but they won't be able to hear you.

@@wayne4740 The baofeng uv5r is better than these and is less than £20 plus has over 100 programmable channels, via connecting to a PC with a programming cable and CHIRP software, with a greater frequency range. Even using those you stil might not pick up much traffic especially in built up areas. It's best to program your own channels anyway because when new the ones programed in could be illegal to use, like hospital frequencies etc.
