Hey Scotty, I've been watching your videos for a couple years now but never commented. My dad was a mechanic for over 40 years and I was only starting to really get into preventative maintenance/mechanic work a little bit before he passed away (late 2013). Brian, here in Port Ore., I can recommend one. Otherwise should you live elsewhere, the Car Talk Guys web site is still up where local listeners leave great responses of their local car blue glove dudes. Honestly, it is a pretty good resource community chat comment thing. I picked my mechanic by his being able to bridge the car generation from Carberated Asperated Combustion engines to the superior computer calculated injection and asperperated improved wind pushers. We all are luckuy enough to witness the coming electrical motor battery fueled power to come. Give me solar sooner than waiting please. You all, don't bother reading this as I am on a wandering rant. Definitely need to inspect the drive belt. Without the belt, the power steering is a no go.
@xdygmnyrdf6 жыл бұрын
a broken belt wont damage the pump, but bad fluid absolutely will. You should do all the maintenance for the car, as described in the manual. Things not mentioned in this vid - brake fluid, pads, filters, valve clearance, regular inspection of car underbody, suspension, brakes, etc.
@electronicsNmore6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but checking the belt should be on the list.
@IaintTrynaGoOutLikeBIGnPAC6 жыл бұрын
xdygmnyrdf The thing with suspension, brakes, underbody etc sure they need to be checked but once they're worn you change them. Brakes are not expensive and you o Ly get bad brake fluid if there is a hole in the line or you're doing high performance driving to really cause the brake fluid to ware out faster from running the brakes at higher temperatures. Suspension will go faster based on if you live in a place where the roads are extremely bad compared to if you live where there is smooth roads. Basically this video was about important upkeep of drivetrain components and having the car look good. Chances are if you are waxing your car religiously, then most likely it's garage kept and you're washing the salt from underneath if you're living in an area with snow and they use salt.

I changed all four tires, cleaned my entire fuel system including Fuel Injectors, I changed my transmission fluid, my brake fluid, I flushed my radiator fluid and added a new one, changed my battery, all air filters, replaced all the spark plugs, wiper blades, and changed my oil at Valvoline. I love keeping my cars in top condition. It’s what moves me around.

My first car was a 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo. It was a piece of junk. I only paid 500 for it and it ran for almost a year. Didn't have to wax it at all.. because the paint was already too far gone. Didn't have to do much of any other maintenance... because it stopped running. So I junked it :) RIP 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo.

I had forgotten about my coolant till about a month ago when it started getting colder, popped the rad cap and saw how dirty it was, went out and bought everything I needed to redo the cooling system down to a new thermostat and rad cap as well
