I have been reloading since 1980 and you never stop learning. This is why I am here watching your videos, super helpful! I also buy the newest manuals and read, read read. I read about loading cartridges that I will never load or shoot. Thanks for the effort you put into these videos!

Another mistake that new reloaders make it’s jump too quickly from one caliber to another. I have been reloading for almost 2 years and still learning 9mm. I learned from you how to reassemble the press (550B) and sit the dies. Awesome 5 videos, thanks. Another mistake, don’t reload to save money. Reload to tailored your ammo. If you are serious about it, you will enjoy it. I live at the beach, so no basement. I set my bench in the garage and I am really enjoying the process. Again, thank you very much for your videos and advices. Ah, one more thing since you mentioned the forums. I hated, they are arrogant and rude. Stay away from those people!

Ben, one of the biggest mistakes people make is they have not mastered their ability for the marksmanship skills to accurately judge what is a good load. It all boils down to "can you shoot". the whole industry makes millions of dollars selling gadgets and gismos promising better accuracy or reloading companies who make components doing the same with their products. I admit that I'm NOT the best shot. but I try my best to apply the fundamentals with each shot I make. This subject can go on and on, however. people will try to buy their way to rifle or pistol accuracy rather than work on their own skills. peace bro-Dave

So true. Just the art of the trigger pull alone is something no gadget can do. I fell into some of the traps learning to shoot. I am cross eye dominant so I assumed I needed red dots and optics for me to shoot. I actually just needed to train my self to shoot with my dominant eye with a few techniques and lots of effort.

Excellent! I reload only when I am fresh, never when I am tired...as you say focus is key...a tired mind is a sloppy mind and mistakes can be dangerous. Keep only components that are being used on the loading bench....one box of primers, one can of powder, one brand of brass, etc. Use precision mic or headspace comparator gauge to bump shoulder back 0.002" when full length resizing. A chronograph is needed to develop a load with minimum variation in velocity. My 4 favorite youtube reloaders are Eric Cortina, Sam Millard (Panhandle Precision), Hornady Reloader, Squatch Reloading. Great advice never to trust specific pet loads from the internet!

Consistent learning is key!!! I personally always try to learn something every time I talk with you guys n gals here. Assuming you know everything will always get you in trouble, whereas being passionate being dedicated and paying attention to detail that is simply smart and being a good reloader (scientist)
@SquatchReloaded4 жыл бұрын
There are so many good sources of education. You are absolutely spot on about learning by talking to other reloaders/scientist. Anytime I run into an old timer at the range that reloads I bend his ear as much as I can.

2 mistakes I’ve made and am new: handling primers with a tiny bit of oil on my hands, led to my one dud round. The other was running out of primers and dumping powder into unprimed cases. Thankfully nothing worse than that so far.

Make sure you write down what your loading and the powder charge you are using for a particular powder and keep it in your records!

Well done brother you hit the high points for sure! I learned not to clean similar brass together just as a roll I Had a 243 case make it all the way to having a 6.5 bullet seated in it. It didn’t work lol
@mickclark48534 жыл бұрын
Excellent video and advice. One thing I would add is that reloaders measure the chamber , so that you KNOW where your bullets are seated. They are listed in the reloading manuals but not all of them are going to be accurate measurements for the firearm you are reloading for. Extreme pressures can and likely will exist if rounds are seated too long!
@freeandcriticalthinker4431 Жыл бұрын
Why do you say the rounds will have high pressure if they sit around for a while? Brass spring back? Didn’t think it could spring back severely while there is a bullet in the neck….?

Thank you so much! I'm about starting reloading right now. Living in South America in my country there are no presses to buy, nada. I have to travel 2000 miles to Argentina to buy my stuff. So wrong diciciones will be a nightmere. I will go for Dillon 550 b, without cardridge-feeder and Dillon-Dies. I'm only afraid of the plastic-lips of the primer-feeder to pic up primers, I will try to get a few more just in case. God bless you in North America. In my soul I was an american cowboy since I was a little boy in Germany, I'm sad to watch what they're doing to you. Libertad y saludos cordiales de South America

I disagree on the "Asking for load data" topic. I would give out any load information I have. Its everyones responsibility to make sure they survive it. Why would I not share the information? Especially for new reloaders having data that worked for someone before is invaluable. The task of ensuring that it will not blow up your gun is your own responsibility. However, i feel like the generally quality of reloaders here in europe is higher then what I see from the US due to the fact that it is a costly and lengthy process to obtain a reloading license. You either would fail the test or lose interest in it, if all you are looking for is stuffing loading manual loads into cases. I would also add that having a seasoned reloader at hand is invaluable. I have a guy in my Club that quite literally is not doing much else for 15 years. Whenever I feel unsure about somethign I verify with him. Just recently I did before shooting some Surplus 303 Ammo from the 50s, that looked sketchy. He knew the ammo, had pulled some apart and asured me that it will work fine and he was right. Lession: Trust yourself in the first place. if you cannot trust yourself educate yourself and if you still are unsure, find the most trustworthy person around you.
