The used market is insane at least in MA where i am. Bought my first bike last year and initially wanted used but saving 2000 over a new bike to buy a 20 year old beater just wasn't worth it. I ended up buying a new klx230 for 5500 all in. Comparable used bikes were going for 3000-4500 for 10-20 year old bikes. Definitely not worth the savings. Buying used you obv have cash go take out a loan for the remaining ammount and get a free 1 year warranty with the new bike.

I scored! I found a 96 xr600r, with a Baja Designs dual sport kit. Race Tech suspension, recent top end and clutch (reciepts). New tires and tubes, chain and sprockets, IMS tank, bark busters, bars and risers, FMF exhaust...the whole 9 yards The guy was an older rider, who had all of this work done to it, but had recently suffered some health issues. So....he couldn't start it!!! He said that he had several guys come to look at it....but apparently, none of them knew the starting procedure. (No e start.) So he refused to sell it to them. So, as a former XR owner, I knew how to start it. He told me. ...if you can start it, it's yours. I did the deal, and it started, first big kick. This guy lit up like times square! He said that he had been waiting for the right guy to come along, so his bike would go to the right rider. That was 18 years ago, and I still have it...and, still talk to the old guy that I bought it from, a couple of times a year. Oh, the stories I've heard!!! Bikes are the glue that holds a lot of us riders together, even after many years. Best community on the planet!!!!

All bikes in general are higher than they should be,.....I don't know if they have Bike Fever or lots of sentimental value for the high mileage bike they wore out and they expect you to pay them enough to buy a new one? The ones $1000.00- $3000.00 have problem's and don't usually run. Or their very high mileage. You usually need to be in the right place at the right time and a Bike shop can never be the right place that's like going to a scalper.
@papatorr36698 күн бұрын
Very good video, you have a good grasp of the dual sport market/bikes. But it's hard to make a video like this without slipping up once. The XT 225 has a wide range six speed transmission, and that makes it a great bike. The XT 250 that replaced it only has a 5-speed transmission. I kept the XT 225.

The bikes your showing are roughly 1989-1991. That's 32-34 yr old dual sport motorcycles. Not a easy living 34 yr old street bike. But a 34 yr old dual sport thats probably been ridden hard. Everyone knows what I'm talking about. Last thing I want is to break down w/a 34 yr old dual sport bike 40 miles from home deep in the woods. Odds are pretty good it might happen. Better off spending the extra $2,000 and purchase a new trouble free bike or one that is 2-3 yrs old.

I think you mean "You're" and I showed early 2000s KLR, DR650, 650L. You can also get newer XT250s. I do see your point but not all these bikes are 32-34yrs old. Also I might add some of the 90s bikes are more reliable then the bikes of today.

Agreed. I just changed the gearing to 16/39 and I'm never looking back!
@papatorr36698 күн бұрын
The DRZ 400 is a pseudo dual sport, more of a sport and a half because of its narrow range 5-speed transmission. You can gear it to be good off-road, where you can gear it to be good on the road, but not both. The DR350 before it had a wide range six-speed transmission which allowed you to have a very low off-road first gear and a tall highway 6th gear.

@insatiable_mind Жыл бұрын
@@geraltofrivia4651 My KLR is a Gen 2 so it’s about 80 pounds heavier wet than the DR650 and has fairings and a windscreen. Also the stock tank is almost 6 gallons so part of the extra weight is fuel. The DR will be a lot more nimble but less comfortable on the highway. The factory DR tank will have half the range but I would replace it with a bigger one.

@MotorcyclesOffroad7 ай бұрын
No not really, and in fact in my state turn signals are not needed. You need front and rear lights at the national standard for brightness, working brake lights, horizontal speedometer, and a strong enough stator that supports it. Many dirtbikes are AC like my KDX, which means modifications to the stator to covert to DC for an addition of a battery so the lights dont dim when you are not on the throttle. And today's standard most of the world besides US needs ABS if it's sold new.
