I'm a 74 yr old 8 handicap senior. Just got fitted for the Ping G710. 6 through "U" . I don't care how they sound. They are amazingly straight and add a few more yards. The one thing that really stands out about these is the backspin they put on the ball especially with the 8 though U irons. The clubhead feels very light especially when you shallow the club before impact. Resulting in more speed. I got midsized grips and what a difference!

The best deal is probably the Callaway Edge at Costco - 500$ for 10 clubs (driver, 3W, 5H, 6i-SW, Odyssey putter). It's a re-issue of the X2Hot from in the past. The DCB is like a modernised forged version of those, but similar. Combined with the Kirkland wedges, you have 13 clubs for 650$ or so (690£). Perhaps the best deal around.

In June I started looking to replace my original Ping Eyes that I had been using for nearly 40 yrs. In South Dakota there was very limited stock to choose from in Ping & Titleist. T300s weren't available to try there. I was most consistent with T400s of the those models that were available. They were really easy to hit off the deck with the wider sole since it makes it more difficult to "chuck" it. What was pleasantly surprising was the minimum of 10 yds gain in distance on every club with the ability to still stop very well with Srizon ZV's 2021 version

Having bought Mizuno JPX 850 irons a few years back, I really wasn’t satisfied with the performance. I decided to go to a unbiased fitter (club champion) there I went through at least ten different companies including the ones that you considered forgiving. But then again I was fitted by a company that doesn’t push any certain lines, just what is best for your own personal game! I think it is interesting that you summarily dismissed the Titleist T400 because you don't like the "chunky" look. As a former 3-handicapper who used to play "blades" ('78 Wilson Staffs with steel stiff flex shafts), and who has aged and lost loads of strength and distance, I've tried all the clubs in this review AND the T400. The T400 is far and away the easiest to hit, most forgiving and longest hitting club of them all. Yes, they are super strong-lofted and long-shafted. These are the attributes that makes them the distance winner, but because of the weighting in the sole, they also launch the ball high. The offset puts the hands in the proper position at address. This helps the golfer get a good start at a good swing at the outset. Simply put, you can't miss! As we know, you can't make a good swing from a bad setup. These clubs help to produce a good setup. Oh and BTW, I don't mind the "chunky look" in the least. It is confidence-inspiring. I don't think Titleist "missed the mark" at all. Your videos are great, James, but I believe that you "missed the mark" on this one by letting your personal professional-level-player bias prevail when you eliminated the T400. I would guess that mid/high 'cappers really don't have that bias. They are looking for help getting the ball airborne with the lease amount of effort. The T400 does that. Yes, the T300's are great-looking, forgiving, all that, but they don't produce the distance, high launch angles and forgiveness of the T400's, AND they aren't as easy to hit. As an aside...I had the T400's, was hitting them great, but I decided to ditch them for something "better." Biggest mistake of my late-in-life golfing "career!" They are now back in my bag, and I am, once again, a happy camper. It will take some kind of miracle club to get me off these in the future. James, in the future, please leave your personal bias at the door when reviewing Game Improvement and so-called "Super Game Improvement" clubs. Those types of clubs are not for a golfer of your caliber in the first place. They are designed for those who are not professionals and probably never will be. The are designed to make the game easier and more fun for the rest of us! 😉

Got to figure the “high handicap iron” is “strong lofted” because they figure they need the extra distance more. Plus short club generally equals better strike.
@dmkfactor17213 жыл бұрын
Not the distance, high handicappers need the help getting the ball airborne, and all these clubs have super low cgs to help with that, add to that the size of the sweet spot and over all iron length and that’s what makes a game improvement iron a game improvement iron! The distance part is to try to attract mid handicappers looking to hit a 7 iron like Bryson at 200 yards!

Im 63 I took up golf 6 years ago 6'4' 220 LBS so I hand a set custom made ,all irons about an inch longer than most. Im a long hitter 200 7 ,220 5 170 ish 8 130 SW and 145 W 75+ 60! , anyway I have the Callaway big bertha irons ,5 years old and I think they are time to replace as I was playing 3 times a week , I think my shafts are fatigued and well as the heads, ( all materials deteriorate over time) problem is my HC is now a 26 .5 do to the fact I think the set is just used up and frustration takes over and I was a 20HC 2nd year into this ( HAD A GREAT GOLF COACH EVERY A WEEK)then dealt with health issues ( im back and feeling much better ,Your English accent and fast talking is hard to follow , Plain and simple I have to have mine custom made , 5 iron to PW , please suggest a head and shaft combination you feel would get me back to low to mid 90s game , , Thanks Brad USA .Any information from you would be greatly appreciated . Everyone at my golf club has their own advise ( OF COURSE) The club champ do tell me that if he could work with me more often one on one I would be low 80s/high 70s and club champ, Also said my iron shots are unreal," nobody here hits a 7 iron 200 + Advise? Help?

Did you ever do the top 5 budget irons video?

Do you hit these better than the Mizunos you use? Why, then, don't you play them? This is something I don't understand. Yes, I have heard about the mysterious and subtle "workability" - but I have also heard - often - that the scorecard doesn't show how, it only show how many.

I think with these type of irons it can come down to gapping and how you organise the lower end of your bag. If you are blasting an 8 iron 175 yards plus then you can start to run into an issue towards the wedge end, like needing a 45, 50, 54 and 60 degree wedge depending on how you like to play the higher lofted clubs

Can you tell me price of Tyler irons and one three five woods or ping sets okay.

Confused, what T300 irons you referring? According to the Titleist website the 7 iron is 29 degrees and the 8 iron at 33 degrees.

Yep, very interesting but still to expensive for me, what about budget irons?

Why did the Ping 425 not make it into the top Five?

I got fitted into the Maverick Max about a years ago when I picked up golf more seriously. Now, they feel a bit chunky and I think my golf has improved enough that I might need something else...or am I being a magpie???

That's a good reason for a beginner or high handicap golfer to go the budget route.

Surprised me thought you was going to say the ping G425 irons tbh all great irons love the look of the Callaway and the Ping G710 both great looking irons but I’m not changing using the PXG 0211 irons the old ones not the new ones when you hit them they feel like butter not bad for cast irons love the videos on course by the way

I'm running with the 0311 XF irons and I couldn't agree more. Soft strike feel and very forgiving... especially if fitted properly.
@leedsumitedkennethbrown34563 жыл бұрын
@@geraldmcnamara1808 had thought about the 0311 at minute they are £810 lovely irons but for Cast the original 0211 feel like forge so forgiving as well PXG really are producing quality clubs at affordable prices the Gen 4 Driver is now £ 355 but could be less by Christmas bought then Gen 2 XF for 250 and love it

I’m a beginner so… when the irons are forgiving that means that when you hit it bad it doesn’t really affect the shot/makes it a good shot but u can only hit it straight. The pros irons aren’t forgiving but they know the sweet spot and can make to ball curve or something like that. I’m I right??

Nice one mate. Haven't hit the t300 yet but pretty much agree with your take on the rest. Slightly off topic, love to see what you think of the new Callaway Epic Super Hybrid if you're planning to review it.

For me it’s PXG XP. Got them at $149 usd per club and the forged feel and forgiveness can’t be matched.

Same… I’m shocked they arnt on this list as they are miles better than at least 3 of these clubs he shows.

PXG better than all of these picks. Reason they are not on the list is that they are not sold at the facility he works at.

It is my understanding that PXG are only available online so that may be why.
