Tip 6: Sound Design This is a very important aspect in your game, it helps you player know what is going on, and also makes the game more alive
@thisguyusesyoutube80303 жыл бұрын
I hve a tip for people struggling with adding music to their games, basically make a bunch of music, minimum is 2 then make sure at least one fits the pace of the game during certains occasions for example a zombie shooter, you can add peacefull music when the player is chatting with npcs, but when the player approaches a horde of monsters make a really fast paced one that will keep the player engaged because if you added peaceful, western, classic music there the players not gonna get into the mood of murdering a million zombies.

@@thisguyusesyoutube8030 that seems to have a lot of sense, i might add that the surprise effects work better with the advices above applied in combination, its all a chain, just to keep that players dopamin raising ;D

The secret to pacing a game is by the use of having as many people (of varying skill levels) as possible play testing your game. It is good for gameplay too.

As for your pacing examples: It sounds like most of the examples you showed were about resetting after failure and repetition of level parts. Well, the easy solution for that particular point would be to have some sort of check point, such that the fall is not too long. Other than that, I like to let the player calm down after an especially intense section so they can refocus and get the stress level down a bit. Of course, that applies more to larger games than small arcade experiences so that probably can't be implemented that easily in a small game jam game.

Speaking of pacing, some developers make a game literally dozens of times slower paced (by repeating levels) on purpose in order to keep people playing longer instead of making more content. If people play longer, they watch more ads or spend more money on a monthly subscription. I call them out and warn people to not spend money on it, but they won't listen to me. A game that would otherwise be like $10 turns into a boring repetitive game that costs, $8 per month if you want it to be ad free even though a normal indie game is ad free for life for a fair price. Also no "legendary" characters for $20 each plus that same price many times over for some low effort upgrades.

I respect you so much--- ! Most people I subscribe to on KZbin.. I find when they are small, and they usually blow up, and become huge-dick heads... so.. I hope you don't get too big too fast--- keep doing what you're doing. I envy your ability to remain humble, despite being relatively unknown, and selling a great game successfully.

It's called low saturation on those colors you like. It resembles the real world, very few things are high saturation in here. You can more or less make low saturation colors either on the net by googling color pallets and stuff that have a saturation modifier or basically by reducing the difference between the three components... when there is no diff at all you get a gray color, maximum difference is the least saturated (red and green at 0, blue at 250 or max). Great color theory video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5uUd35uo5yKnbs

Are you afraid of what Article 13 might do to your channel/ indie career
@JonasTyroller5 жыл бұрын
I don't depend on any copyrighted material. I can create everything myself if I have to. As long as KZbin doesn't shut down for smaller creators I'll be fine and so far I think that is probably not gonna happen. In terms of my career I'm not toooo worried... I'm definitely worried about what it might do to freedom of speech. A clear step towards making censorship a lot easier... Hard to tell where it's gonna go... Certainly doesn't feel like something that's gonna help me personally as a creative person. Let's hope it fails in parliament.
