Oscar submissions are decided in September I believe and Tumbbad came out in October so it would contend for the next year. Gully Boy came out 3 months later and eventually took the slot. I remember watching Vishal as a kid in Maharana Pratap, realising he was REALLY good, following his movies ever since. Him not getting the Filmfare or even decent recognition for Mardaani 2 was like a realisation that these award shows are rigged. I hope he gets his due credit for Human (2022.)
