if only we don't base the winner off the precursor awards, non-related narrative (body of work), and blinding sentimentality, we know who will win. there are almost 10 thousand academy voters that are diverse, most of the time it's about the taste but simply, most of them are basing their choices off the best performance for that year without bias. because all of us don't want to lose due credit because someone else is more impartially preferred. OLIVIA COLEMAN and MOONLIGHT did not cause upsets for those who are not influenced with pseudo analysis.

I agree. She had the best performance of the year. Literally all of the sentiment for Glenn Close was she was overdue and she would have a record number of loses. It had very little to do with her performance in a movie that wasn’t getting any more nominations. Also Olivia also won the globe so as far as precursors she wasn’t far behind. People might discount her Bafta win because she is British but it right before the Oscars and a solid second. Indeed when she had won I wondered if it swung the momentum enough. Clearly it did. People might have been surprised but they were happy she won. She was amazing.

Mfs say La La Land was “robbed”, it won Director, Actress, Cinematography, Score, Song and Production design but I guess poor La La Land really needed more Oscars

To clarify, La La Land is in my top 10 of the decade but it’s total bait and was already sweeping everywhere.

The biggest upset was Joaquin Phoenix for Gladiator, fuck the Oscars if he doesn't win this time.

Ex Machina is way ahead of Mad Max and Star Wars in terms of VFX that year. Most people watched Star Wars and Mad Max because these movies are widely released with big budgets and obviously watched by more people than Ex Machina. And the people who disagree with Ex Machine are the ones who are not familiar with the technics of VFX shots. Most critics at Gold Derby are not the ones with the right knowledge about visual effects. Critics can be wrong. People must watch all the nominees before having an opinion. I am glad Ex Machina won the Oscars. It was one of the best VFX films of that DECADE.

Now, after Tom Hooper directed one of the biggest CATaStrophes ever, the Academy regrets giving him Best Director over David Fincher. Shame on you, Academy

Could you make another video about other decades? Can't wait for that scandalous winning by Gwyneth Paltrow over Fernanda Montenegro in 1999.

Sometime in the near future Glenn Close should be given an honorary Oscar for her collective work. Glenn Close has a Beautiful Singing Voice. In her next film, if she sings with great feeling while playing a very emotional character, she will win the Oscar. I hope that happens. She should use all of her talents.

Very solid list. The most shocking one has to be Ex Machina winning Visual Effect over Mad Maz and Star War.

I remember shortly after Green Book won Best Picture, someone edited the Wikipedia page for the 91st Oscars to say "Wack Ass Oscar Bait" instead of Green Book!

I sincerely hope people would stop comparing Glenn Close to Julianne Moore. Moore's performance got raved ever since it premiered at TIFF and she won all the industry/televised awards under the sun that year. Globe, SAG, BFCA, BAFTA, Indie Spirit plus tons of critics awards that Close didn't manage to win. Nobody has a real shot in Moore's year and for those who are not aware The Academy HATED Gone Girl (rightfully so imho). Only similarities is that they were both overdue at that point and being the sole nominee of their respective films and that's it. The Academy loved Moore's performance and it shows. Obviously the same can't be said about Close.

John Bonham Yes it is, La La Land is the Singing in the rain of our time, and Moonlight, despite Naomi Harris and Mahershalla Ali great performances, is a very forgettable movie.
@mateogalvezarrascue64014 жыл бұрын
Jay Cee For me it isn’t. I think La La Land is a movie that will live for many years. And putting it in the same place as Singing in the Rain may sound ridiculous now, but not in the next 10 years. On the other hand hand, Moonlight is just another overrated film from the Left Hollywood. It was choose with the intention to give black people more representation in the Oscars, I get it, but it wasn’t the best that year. Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water and Arrival were MUCH BETTER movies than Moonlight. Although, I understand Moonlight may be a meaningful for black and gay people ... at least it was better than Black Panther ...
@mateogalvezarrascue64014 жыл бұрын
Jay Cee I never said it cannot be meaningful for a non black or gay person, it can. However, when movies are being rated based on how many black or Chinese people are represented ... that’s when movies start to lose meaning, at least for me. Is very known that in the last years Hollywood overrates movies that point out this social issues. I am a guy who likes good stories, simple as that. For example I loved Get Out. But for me Moonlight was just boring, lame and trying too hard, although with good performances. Maybe it was not targeted to me, who knows. Also I understand you didn’t like La La Land ... subjectivity. But it’s one of the best musicals of the century. It’s hard to say if La La Land it’s at the same level of masterpieces like Singing in the Rain, only years will tell us if it survives the pass of time. What I tried to say in the earlier comment was that La La Land is probably the best musical of our era, just like Singing in the Rain was for the Golden Era of Hollywood in the 50’s. If you deny that, you are denying facts man ...

Jay Cee 238 Awards are facts ... well I do think it’s a masterpiece. And it’s as good as Singing in the Rain 🤣
