You are absolutely correct. I own quite a few machines like Kitchenaid Artisan, Kenwood Cooking Chef, Ankarsrum , Thermomix TM5 and Bosch Mum. There are two I use the most Kenwood and Ankarsrum. I use Kenwood for basically everything but I prefer the Ankarsrum for bread making. Sure I can make bread in all of them but I prefer to make it in bigger batches (I'm just a one person household but I like to freeze bread :)

You're bang on with your assessment that there is no single mixer that does everything perfectly. I bought mine to do the larger jobs (it won't make nine loaves of bread but it will do four quite nicely). I make two-layer cakes in it with no trouble, but the ingredients do seem to get lost in that seven quart bowl. The smallest jobs (like the one-egg-white meringue that so far I've never needed) I'll still do either by hand or with my hand mixer, depending on how much I feel like digging out the hand mixer parts and cleaning them. Sometimes it's a lot easier just to find then wash a wire whip. Going forward, should the current mixer fail or if I decide to get rid of it, I would have an Ankarsrum for the largest jobs, and a Bosch Compact for "standard" jobs. My hand mixer and wire whips will round things out very well.

Ankarsrum is by far the best mixer for low hydration dough kneading like bagel dough. It doesn't tear gluten the way the other mixers do, instead it does gentle kneading over longer period. takes longer but kneading closer to hand kneading. but i'm only talking about low hydration dough which is the HARDEST work a mixer can do, it really taxes the motor.

I love your unbiased approach to this. However, I am still in need of my particular questions answered. I am looking at an Ankarsum, but I have read reviews that state some of the attachments are cheap, flimsy plastic. I have yet to see an apples to apples comparison between the Ankarsum and the Kitchen-aid pro. Everyone that compare the two brands, only compare the $800.00 Ankarsum to the $300.00 - $400.00 Kitchen-aid. That is not a fair comparison, and the kitchen-aid pro has a 1.4 hp motor. They come to conclusion that the Ankarsum it so much stronger and does better at bread making, but again they are comparing it to a weaker and cheaper unit. Do you already have a video comparing the two? If not, could you please make one showing the pro's and con's of each?

I have 2 stand mixers, both KitchenAid. The smaller one I keep on my counter for near daily use. The larger one is in my pantry & only used for large batch mixing which is dramatically more infrequent. I love baking bread but normally only bake a couple loaves at a time, if not just one, because I love my home made bread when it's fresh. Normally when I use my large mixer it's when I'm large batch cooking for an event or for making exceptionally large quantities for freezing. If I had to choose to have only one.. it would be the smaller simply because the larger doesn't work well for the batch size I'm normally working with. To note - When I use my large mixer to make bread I have to make at least 3 batches else the dough seems to get lost in the large bowl & struggles to knead properly. If I was cooking for an exceptionally large family I'm sure my choice would be the opposite.

I love your channel! I have found one workhorse and one hand mixer is my key! I have been a personal chef for years. I have found the Bosch to be my perfect workhorse and I have had one since the 70’s. The only reason I do not have more is at 61, I am sizing down and decluttering my kitchen, so I am keeping only what I actually use. Everything else is being donated to people who may not be able to afford them. I will never give up my Breville food processor. I keep all my big machines in a separate room I call “the appliance garage”.

Does the Beville Food Processor make prettier coleslaw than the mandolin? I would love a safer way to make coleslaw but everything I have tried has failed to be as perfect as the mandolin which is frankly scary to even own much less use. I imagine myself in the ER every single time I use it. I wear the kevlar gloves but if I could find the right food processor I would retire my mandolin for good.

I have three mixers. I have always had a KA tilt head (Artisan) and love it for smaller recipes, whipping cream, etc. More recently I got the Bosch and love it for large batches of cookies and bread dough. One limitation to the Bosch is that the center post makes it very inconvenient to fold ingredients into your mixture. I make a lot of sponge cakes, so this was an issue for me. I finally took the plunge and got the KA 7 quart proline and could be happier with it. It’s an amazing and really powerful mixer with a large bowl for big jobs and does a great job with smaller amounts as well. (Note: you can use 5 and 6 quart bowl lift bowls on the proline, which is a great feature.) it’s also relatively quiet - WAY quieter than the 600 line. If I could do it over I would just have the two KitchenAids but I still love the Bosch too (especially for big batches of cookies because it’s so easy to add ingredients, plus the lid on the bowl helps prevent flour from flying all over).

Exactly! There is no perfect mixer. So it is important to look at your needs as well as wants before you buy your mixer. Since I only make pasta dough and made pretzel dough a few times and no bread, KA is perfect for me. Especially with all of the attachments. Those are used a lot and with our specific dietary needs, they are very helpful for meal prep. I also prefer my 5qt Artisan over my Pro 6qt and that shocks people lol. I always get the bugger is better. Nope, no always. Great video as always Amy (and Eric)!

I think a useful answer for the beginner or modest home cook/baker who occasionally makes bread or whatever, but not on an industrial scale is, (instead of just asking which mixer will serve all your needs), what are things that a 7-qt bowl-lift pro model of Kitchenaid can do that a head-tilt Artisan model cannot do? Is it just making massive amounts? If you are not a pro-chef or baker, would the weaker motor of the Artisan mixer be enough to do whatever you want, on occasion, at a family-size level? Cheers.

The 7 quart KA will make large batches but will frustrate you with smaller ones. If you are beating 2 egg whites you will need to pull out the hand mixer which isn't so bad. None of the KAs are great with bread and KA has issued a warning not to knead dough for more than 2 minutes and stay at a slow speed- I think 2. So that isn't going to work for many bread recipes with longer kneading times. The motor on the Artisan is amazing and you will have no trouble with whipping a pound of cold butter straight from the fridge into velvety submission within minutes. It will mix tollhouse cookie dough with ease. You can use cold cream cheese straight from the fridge as well. You can't do that with the Ankarsrum. But the Ankarsrum is amazing for bread as is the Bosch but the Ankarsrum is better. They all so something well. I have three mixers.
@pippadawg7037
@pippadawg7037 11 ай бұрын
@@Ponce17 The KA isn't great with bread at all. Be very careful. Look at the warnings KA has issued on using their mixer for bread. I have read some food processors knead dough well. You could try that as an addition to your KA. I feel like a KA, the Ankarsrum/or Bosch Universal plus a hand mixer is the best of all worlds. Never buy the blender attachments or the food processor attachments. They are a waste of space and money.
@Ponce17
@Ponce17 11 ай бұрын
@@pippadawg7037 I haven't bought anything yet. The KA is honestly just way too much money for me to ever want to invest in a small mixer. I've been thinking of getting the Hamilton beach mixer. I mostly make cakes, cupcakes and cookies. I want to try to do bread but I think I'll do that by hand and save myself money on having to get another appliance, unless those bread maker machines are truly worth it.

Amy, quick question please if I may. For someone NEW to baking [Bread, Cakes, Cookies ... etc.]., is it still worth splashing out on the KitchenAid Artisan Mixer [based on its reliability, verasility to handle tasks, low maintenance, future proof adaptation ... etc.] ???, or should I go for a cheaper option like in your EXCELLENT Hauswirt Base Model Review ??? It's worth remembering that even a complete Novice and Beginner can acquire skills within a few years that would perhaps warrant a Higher Quality Mixer eventually. Question, I guess is, should a Beginner buy the cheaper Base Model of Hauswirt for under 100 Bucks, use it for a couple of years whilst exploring the experience of Baking and then upgrade to a KitchenAid, or buy the KitchenAid as an Investment from the outset ??? Would really appreciate your comments whenever you have the time to respond. LOVE ALL your Videos and presentations - I've learnt SO MUCH from you. YOU are the ARTISAN - NOT KitchenAid Artisan. Stay Blessed. Greetings from across the Pond. 🙏🇬🇧

I like your statement re: no single mixer can do everything perfectly - a larger machine for big jobs and a smaller one for the smaller jobs. That single piece of advice will save people a lot of wasted time trying to find the ‘ultimate mixer for all tasks’. I’ve got a restored Sunbeam Mixmaster model 9B from the 50s for batters, cakes and icings. The old style twin beaters make excellent aerated cake mixtures and the small bowl is fantastic for making icings etc. My more powerful and restored Kenwood A701A planetary mixer from the 60s excels for larger batches, heavy cookie and bread dough duties. Both machines excel for particular tasks and overall, neither is ‘better’ than the other. :-)

Not very good advice to buy 2 mixers. Just buy the mixer for your everyday use. If you are a family of 3, 4 or 5 just buy a mixer for 4 people. If you often cook for 8 then buy a mixer for 8, but don't buy 2 mixers if you are 3 or 4 and you invite people twice a year. The bigger mixer will only take (a lot of) space without being used. If there are 8 people, just do 2 batches, it will take you 10 or 15 more minutes in the kitchen, but that's to be expected. Perhaps american kitchens are huge, but most appartments don't have as much space and cluttering them with 2 mixers is a dumb idea.

Hi Amy. I love your videos! Thanks for all the great info. I currently own a 40+ year old Bocsh Universal. It only has two speeds and the pulse, so it's not optimal, but it gets the job done. My problem is that I only do large batches a few times a year and it's a hassle to drag out so it's been collecting dust for a long time. Last week I dusted it off and tried pizza dough. It just wouldn't knead the dough. I think it was just too small of a batch. So my question is this: Which mixer(s) would be best for cookie dough and smaller batches of whole grain dough (pizza dough or a couple loaves of bread)? I was going to buy a KA Artisan 5qt, but after watching reviews I'm not so sure anymore.

Amen, No mixer can do it all and the accessories (blenders, food processors) are not worth the money. I thought I was bad owning 3 but 40 that is wild. I started with a KA lift mixer made by Hobart and I loved it but it frustrated me with small batches and especially with bread dough. The dough climbed up the hook, and out of the bowl within seconds. It drove me nuts. So I bought the Ankarsrum and I loved it till I tried to make chocolate chip cookies. It is impossible. I creamed the softened butter (and get it very soft) in the donut bowl and it did well until I added the flour and then I had to switch to the larger bowl and even then it wouldn't properly mix the flour. I saw Kitchen Illustrated video of someone making chocolate chip cookies in the Ankarsrum donut bowl and he used a very soft dough with oil in it. No. I had already given my Hobart made KA to my oldest (still running and she loves it) and bought a second KA lift bowl 7quart. That frustrated me because with the children out of the house I found myself making smaller batches and wanting something that could handle them. So I gave my 7quart KA to my second born daughter and bought the KA 3.5 which was great till I wanted to make a 12 cup pound cake and it was literally spilling out of the bowl. I also missed being capable of making large batches. So finally I bought the Bosch Universal which is great for large batches. My workhorse is that little KA that I had custom painted by a local motorcycle shop. He painted it in a Chinoiserie style and it is gorgeous. I also have a Vitamix blender and my original old school Cuisinart food processor.

I have just learned that the kitchen aid commercial mixer I just got is NOT good for home ground Einkorn! That Einkorn throws a beating on that kitchen aid, especially with bigger batches. I’m making a lot of Einkorn recipes from breads to cookies to pasta dough. The reason why is my wife is gluten intolerant but praise God she can tolerate Einkorn! I’m so happy to get her away from the junk gluten free products and give her a healthy alternative. 🎉 My point is, you’re spot on, not one mixer is going to do everything perfectly. Einkorn, as I’m beginning to learn is not to be over kneaded. Between the tearing of the dough and the bogging down of the motor, in my opinion the Kitchen aid is a no go… I may very well just get the Ankarum mixer to compliment the Kitchen Aid, mainly for Einkorn. I feel bad having to buy two mixers but I am all in on producing our own pastas and bread products from grains we mill ourselves. My wife will probably tear me a new one when the Ankarum show up! 😂 P.S. When I attempted to go past speed four on the kitchen aid, it refused to go any faster… The Einkorn cookie dough was a big batch and it was brutal…

Thank you. Your second answer really helped me de-stress while shopping. There is no singular mixer. So, what's important to me is finding replacement parts, especially since I want to use the machine for years. A lot of brands get discontinued and attachments become scarce. I'd rather buy from the very few brands that offer separate parts for sale or have a thriving secondhand market. A great warranty helps too.

Ideally it is not too heavy, but still will keep going for years, easy to clean, not too bulky/heavy but still sturdy, good looking preferably or in your word "sexy" lol, not required for anything else other than mixing, so no attachment is needed. I may only bake up to once a week, and have it stored away while not in use. I was looking into Breville, KitchenAid Mini, Kmix, but open to any brand. Thanks.

The best muxwe so far for me to creamy butter and sugar us the Bosch Universal Plus. You must use the scrapers but it gets the creaminess we're looking for in under 3 minutes. Plus I do make 4 to 6 loaves of bread so yes. Bosch is for me.

Hi Amy, how would compare Wondermill with Bosch and Ankarsrum please? Thanks.

Hi Amanda! In my opinion, I would get a Bosch or Ank over a Wondermill.

I'm really just looking for an affordable stand mixer for cookies, mainly. I may possibly want to try pizza dough some day with it. I was thinking of a Cuisinart. (My parents have a Cuisinart 1.5 quart Ice Cream Machine and it does a great job.)

Will you review the Magimix Cook expert. I know you have the 5200xl food processor but the cook expert is meant to also replace the Kitchen Aid stand mixer as it can knead bread loves with the dough hook attachment, and whisk egg whites. I wonder how it would compare for baking purposes. Love your videos keep it up :)!

Luke S Hi Luke, I have a Magimix cook expert and a Kenwood cooking chef. I did a comparison mixing the same bread mix at the same time, and they came out identical!

Thanks, Miss Amy! That is excellent advice. Is your KitchenAid hand mixer from the Architect series?

It sure is! I got it from Macy's. I am not sure but it seems like they stopped selling the Architect series. I really like it. I hope everything is going well for you, Sashine!! Thanks for watching!

So my plan is not to collect KitchenAid mixers. It is to get a good one that lasts me decades and my children can inherit it. So I bought the best one. The commercial 8qt NSF certified with polished stainless steel paddles and a dead quiet DC motor.
