My rarest record I have is a old Vogue Picture Disc (78) from 1942 I think, last time I checked in it’s near mint condition it’s worth anywhere from 500-800$ of course it’s really only worth what someone’s willing to pay so I’ve decided to use it for wall art!

Regardless of how rare a record is, the feeling of getting the music you were looking for so long is just priceless.

This is true. I dropped $200 (most I've spent on a record, ever) on MxPx's "Slowly Going The Way Of The Buffalo" which only ever saw one vinyl release back in 1998 on release day. I had it on CD as a teenager, and it has some personal, special memoirs attached to it for me. So at my current age of 37, I felt the need to find it on vinyl (because only the music I DEEPLY care about I get on vinyl). It is a prized possession of mine, along with some other vinyl I have purchased ($100+) in the past several months. I am in no way rich, and have fell down the rabbit hole of buying vinyl when I most likely shouldn't LOL The soul is fed, though. Mostly satisfied. :)

I'm not sure about the rarity of this one but it has a lot of sentimental value. One of the records I wanted to get when starting my collection was Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. Considering that a lot of their albums have been rereleased on new vinyl, I figured it wouldn't be that hard to find. I looked everywhere I could think of but no one had a copy for a good price or at all and I'm kind of against the idea of ebay when it comes to this. I told my dad about this and without a second thought, he walks to his collection he had inherited from his late brother, pulls out an original 1975 pressing (scratch free, just needed cleaning), and hands it to me along with Animals by Pink Floyd and Signals by Rush (which are original pressings as well). I still don't think I've thanked him enough for this.

One of the rarest for me is Onra's "Chinoiseries Vol.3". Original price was 175 USD; but copies are currently going for 800 USD, and people are selling for upwards of 3000 USD on Discogs. Most surprising sleeper record is the Only Lovers Left Alive OST red vinyl by SQUURL and Jozef Van WIssem. I have the first Tuxedomoon 7", of which they made 250, I believe. two albums that seem to be very rare I'd like to own are: Feel the Cold by North Star: only ever found a vinyl on sale on Discogs and it was for 75 euros. Outside of that one LP, never found it on sale anywhere else. On Discogs, 4 people own it and 23 (excluding me) want it. This album was never sold on Discogs, so I don't know what happened to that one LP I once found Bla Vardag by Atlas: more people have it on Discogs (41 own it and 132 want it), but currently there is only one copy on sale and it's for $100 CAD. On Discogs, the lowest price it went for was $78 CAD, the highest $178 CAD and the median is $150 CAD. Again, can't find a copy of the album anywhere else

Discogs is probably your best resource. It’ll tell you all the info about your record, the year it was pressed, the country, and other important info. You can also see what other people are charging for that record!
@SGW4K5 жыл бұрын
I agree. Discogs is the way to go. There is also popsike which is ok. With discogs you gotta narrow down the exact copy/ version you have then based on previous sales etc they give you a minimum, median and maximum value. Add you whole collection to your profile and you can easily track values and any changes people make to the entries (eg better pictures, updating misinformation, matrix/ runout info, other identifiers..etc). There is nothing more satisfying than adding a release that is not already there.

So glad that Third Man Records was mentioned, I love Jack White mostly for being in the White Stripes but he’s just a really good artist and knows that vinyl is really good, I would love to visit the shop and possibly get to meet the legend him self

What about buying a MARANTZ 143 system as it will install on your self and the turntable is Linear Tracking an is actually part of the Lid or what about a recapped REVOX B790 Linear Tracking Turntable both play albums the way they were cut on a record cutting lathe.

Led Zeppelin 1, second UK pressing. The fun part: I bought it at a used record store in Toronto in the early 90's for $10.00. During a move I packed away all my vinyl and forgot about it until a few years ago. I dug them all out again and found the Zeppelin 1. Decided to give it a listen and the first thing I noticed was the original inner sleeve. It's just a plain inner sleeve with instruction on the best way to handle your records. Then I noticed it had the Made in Gt Britain purple label. By now Discogs was active so I looked it up. Sells between $200 - $350 now.

A mint example of the contours do you like now that I can dance. I checked its a first US press that when I picked it up was still sealed! I thought it was a 80's reissue at the time. It has a slight warp but is still completely playable and no orange peel even after being sealed for more than 50 years! I'm still shocked about this especially since I picked my copy up for 15 dollars and is worth at least 300 and yes the shrink is still on it.

I have three but two of them I’m not sure about. 1. The Beatles Yesterday and today (butcher cover) Found it at a record store for $30 2. Thriller Michael Jackson (bootleg) The cover is all green. It’s from Korea and I found it on eBay for $40. I can only find one image on the internet 3. A Charlie Brown Christmas (red translucent vinyl of 1000). It’s a fairly recent release, but the “of 1000” bit of it caught my eye. Got it for $32

My Chemical Romance has lots of colored vinyls I've been collecting. So far the hardest for me to find is their blue Danger Days vinyl, and every time I try to look it up, I get results for the pink and blue Hot Topic vinyl.

Ariana Grande’s “My Everything” lavender vinyl is out for 180-800$ depending if it’s sealed or open.. it was an urban outfitters exclusive and was extremely limited... okay that’s kinda too much.. it was really limited! after 6 years they finally ree pressed her albums along with my everything. there was a standard black pressing AND a half lavender and half clear web store exclusive. the lavender split was an homage to the rare vinyl AND now that record is rare.. I’m so thankful i have it and hopefully i’ll be able to have the lavender rare vinyl.

I know this video is like 2 years old and you probably have more expensive vinyls now but I believe my Supermarket vinyl by Logic is my most expensive one. On discogs the prices range from 600-750. Amazing pick up when it was only $45

I was playing a wedding gig with a band in Seattle that was breaking up after the wedding (Their bass player couldn't make it, which is why I was playing). Anyway, when I did the one rehearsal with them they had about 50 boxes in their space, all of which contained a couple dozen copies of their one vinyl album. They said they were throwing them all away because they never caught on. I asked for one box (it was all I could get on the plane for my return trip to Kentucky) and they gave it to me. They did destroy all the others. I wonder if mine are worth anything, ;)

My most valuable/rarest/special edition record is Trout Mask Replica June ‘18 reprint by the Third Man Records. It’s just one of a kind and worth every penny that I spent on it. One of the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard.

My rarest record is the sigur ros “in a frozen sea” box set. I was just getting into the band at the time and I saw an expensive looking box set at what looked like a good price, so I went for it. Best decision ever.
