I've had the RT85 since you've recommended it years ago and I'm so fricken happy I went with that player out of anything else. I got a lot of friends with a lot of the others (including those you've mentioned), and they all have some kind of complaint. 2 years running with the RT85 and I have yet to find a complaint about it. Spectacular turntable, I recommend this one to everyone.

Great list as always! I got me a Music Hall MMF Turntable Lab Edition with Ortofon 2M Blue upgrade on sale for $349. I can certainly recommend that unit. The cartridge alone goes for over half the purchase price. I’ve been digitizing some vinyl and it’s incredible how good my old records sound.

You see guys, the LP60X always makes it to Jarrett's top 5 turntables for any Christmas, and it's for good reason. I've had the bluetooth version for nearly 3 years now, and just a couple of months ago replaced the conical stylus with LP Gear's elliptical. Nothing wrong with the conical, it tracks well and it sounds good but I tell you, the elliptical gets deeper into the grooves with it's sharper point and extracts more details from a record. I also find the bass and the midrange to be more present with the elliptical almost to a point where you feel you're listening to a higher end turntable. This upgrade of stylus really does fulfill the promise of the LP60X.

Bought a project essential III last year with build in speedbox. Love that player. I started with a saba psp 900 that i bought second hand in 2019. A nice direct drive turntable, but it has issues staying on the correct speed. A few weeks ago i bought a philips linear turntable because that integrates into my stereo system.

You REALLY REALLY should add the Rega Planar 1 to that list, perhaps right at the top. There's a reason this turntable has won awards for decades - because it's peerless to a large degree. I'm lucky in that I have a high end stereo of sorts and I wanted a cheaper turntable just to play old records I used to DJ with. I bought a Rega Planar and it's been so good I bought another. And that brings me onto the second major reason why it should top this list - it's the same base model that the majority of the pricier Planar models are based on, and you can upgrade it. Which is exactly what I did to my second one. Bit by bit I bought a brace plate, a new platter, bearing and so on. The fact that you can get in on this for about £280 and even if you don't choose to upgrade it, it's a better turntable than anything else at the price, you can't do better. I would also add that ProJect do make some good sounding stuff, but their build quality is often questionable. I've had two in the past and both of them suffered a lot of failures - speed circuitry, motor, tonearm, power supply. So I'd caution that into the equation too.

Hi all! First, to Jarrett thank you for all of this information! I am new to record collecting and am trying to learn as much as I can about TTs before buying one. Second, to everyone, I had a question about a few different options for TTs. I am currently between the Audio Technica LP60x, Audio Technica LP3, and the Fluance RT81+ as I am a beginner and am not looking for something to completely break the bank. I understand most of the differences in these I would say but was wondering what you would suggest if you were to buy one starting from scratch.

My partner just got me the ATLP120USB in the target sale as an early Christmas present, which ill use as a backup deck meantime, but would love to know if you have any ideas? :)

Hello! I’m new to the world of turntables and vinyl and have many questions. One in particular has been puzzling me: Is it possible to connect a preamp directly to powered speakers without using a receiver? I’m curious if this setup makes sense and would appreciate any insights. Thanks 🙏🏻
@Daniel-79
@Daniel-79 3 ай бұрын
Yes, you should be able to connect a preamp to powered speakers. An integrated receiver consists (usually) of a preamp/amplifier/tuner/multiple line level inputs and phono input. A preamp by itself just regulates the line level input to an output that can be fed to an amplifier or powered speakers

Would a sound burger be a good fun turn table to get as a gift? I've been worried about other things you've said in other videos that might apply to the sound burger, such as an overbite and the whole portability thing. Just wanted some advice if anyone could help
@7JANEWAY
@7JANEWAY 5 ай бұрын
A Sound Burger will do the trick in playing records. But it’s also a good example of you get what you pay for. As long as you have the attitude that this is not a serious record player, it’s OK to get you started. But I have to agree with Jarrett and others that it would be better if you saved up for an Audio Technica LP 60X if you want to really experience vinyl. So it just comes down to why you’re buying it in the first place!!! Hope this helps!!!

Really could say the U Turn basic is not really 2 - speed. Yes, play 45s ok. BUT it is one speed motor / pulley, One must move the belt to the large diameter portion. Also, when done with 45, it is wise to more belt back, so that it does not keep stretched and to sag later. Unless you would always want to play 45s! There are some more expensive - high end TT which also have this sort-of unfortunate feature. Note: Carbon EVO has internal electronic speed change, but 78s play with moving the belt. And one should used a 'special' stylus, too. for 78s/

Man, I really want to collect vinyl, but it's expensive buying a good turntable, all the parts that are needed, and the vinyl themselves. Since I love rock, many of the albums are 2-LP albums, which cost around $40, while a 2-CD album costs $20. Can anyone tell me, is vinyl worth the money? I have a Victrola which just sucks in sound quality, so I don't really know.

You do realize most of the best and expensive turntables are belt driven? Direct drive is fantastic, but once you get out of the cheap turntables, belts are great (my replacement belts cost what some of these cheap cartridges cost).

Only one did 78 rpm. With vinyl making a come back, why aren't more quality turntables including 78?
@7JANEWAY
@7JANEWAY 5 ай бұрын
Because almost all (if not all) modern records spin at 33 1/3 or 45 RPM, that’s why. Seeing a modern record that spins at 78 RPM is extremely rare. Many people who listen to 78s either found them in their grandparents’ basements or at the thrift store (Goodwill, etc.). But these people are in the extreme minority. Plus you have to get a different stylus to play these old records because they have a different type of grooves on them from the grooves that modern records have. To use a modern conical or elliptical stylus on them would sound bad and could damage both the stylus and record. Hope this helps!!!

The Pro-Ject EVO is nice, but if someone wants to play 78 RPM records, a different cartridge/stylus would be necessary. Trust me. I found out the hard way. I presently own the Fluance RT-85. I've had it for several years. Mine is equipped with an Ortofon Blue cartridge, and I'm very happy. But remember to replace the stylus. It's important to get the best sound.
