In terms of looks it's so close between the North American alligator as their head is huge and they look exactly like what they are a huge predator. Or a king cobra when fully flared up as they look genuinely terrifying. I would also add though both are such beautiful reptiles as well.

When you started off with dumerils boa it made me so happy. There's a local reptile shop I used to go to almost every single day to hang out with their dumerils boa. When I'd come in I'd tell them I was there to see her again and they'd take her out put her around me and I'd just walk around with her and talk to her and hang out on the floor with her. She was real slow and real sweet. All around a wonderful girl who I wish I could've provided a home for. It got to the point that I came in so often they'd ask if I wanted to help socialize their new baby snakes too.

Considering I love reptiles and I know dumerils boas and cave geckos are harmless, my top 5 of real scary reptiles would be (nobody asked me but I wanted to do it) 1. Crocs (specially Cubans running towards you) 2. Gaboon and rhino vipers 3. Black mambas 4. Alligator snapping turtles 5. Croc monitors Obviously there’s more (basically every lethal venomous snake for example) but those are the ones that creep me out the most

Actually scary: 5) Alligator Snapping Turtles 4) Large Snakes (scariest example: unsocialized Green Anaconda or African Rock Python) 3) Most Large Monitors (scariest example: Komodo Dragon or Crocodile Monitor) 2) True Hot Snakes (scariest example: Black Mamba) 1) Crocodilians (scariest example: Saltwater Crocodile) Scary looking but actually friendly: 5) Asian Water Monitor 4) Argentine Boa 3) Any large tortoise 2) Red Tegus (some people get very intimidating by their appearance and size) 1) Large Chameleons (only because they put a lot of people on edge with their weird posture and people are weirded out by their eyes or how they lick their eyes or launch their tongues. Basically, some people find the characteristics that reptile lovers love most about them to be weird and unnerving.)

A snake I feel looks scary but is a sweetheart are the Gopher/bull snake. They puff, they hiss (really loud, I find it scary), and they kind of look like rattlesnakes. I have one and had some people think that it was a rattlesnake because of the "rattle" sound (hissing) and color. The shape of the head flattens so they look like pit vipers' head.

My carpet python hatchling when he doesn't want to come out of the enclosure, well, he thinks he's the scariest reptile anyway. I think BCIs are scary for the same reasons a Dumeril’s boa is! I would love to have a snake that size someday but for some reason BCIs and Dumeril’s boas intimidate me way more than even something like a Burmese python does. They just look like they mean business and pythons have more traditionally “cute” faces.
