I watched the trial of Brooks. She NEVER "lost it". She was so disciplined! She kept in mind throughout all of Brooks' nonsense her responsibility to protect Brooks' rights in order to reach a verdict that would survive appeal. I would have caved early on and vented my frustrations with that creep, likely putting the trial in jeopardy. Judge Dorow is a hero to the victims & their families for ensuring Brooks was fairly convicted.

@@AureliusR Highly publicized cases can make those participating a target. For him to mention her kids is, in a way, a threat, as he could be putting them at risk. The member of the defense mentioned her own children multiple times, so she put that subject on the table for the families to bring up in their statements. The judge, however, did not give permission for her children, should she have any, to be mentioned. That is why she is angry. The defense team is mad that their children were being brought up when they brought them up to start with.

I disagree, she allowed the defendant to make a spectacle of the trial. She failed to set clear boundaries early in the proceedings. She enabled Brooks to the point that his behavior escalated to unimaginable levels. Is her job to uphold decorum in the courtroom and set the standard. Judges have many tools to deal w unruly and disruptive people, they even authorized to gag and bound folks. Am also amazed the bailiffs didn't grab him or surrounded him fast when he would stand up and be arguing and yelling at the judge. I seened people get dragged out of court for less. Soo for she lost control in her court room long ago. You don't let the inmates run the court house, this was insanity

The parkland judge is lucky she didn’t get sanctioned. Her outburst was ridiculous. @@ElectrikDragon77 no. I did. All of it. I’m just not a knee jerk reaction person. Everyone looks at the judge and says she so bold and strong and because the trial was as big as it was and the crime was as atrocious as it was. Did the defense do a few things wrong? Yes. Was the judge a hypocrite? Yes. She was. The attorney said, “my children are being brought up. That’s not appropriate” they WERE brought up. Numerous times. The judge pretended like she never heard anything about their children. She lied. Or she’s not paying attention. When the attorney said “you wouldn’t like it if your children were brought up” she lost it and literally proved his point. Faking outrage.

I am not sure I understood the thing about the kids. The defense team claimed that they were receiving threats to their families and children. And when the guy said to the judge that she would see this differently if it was her kids. She suddenly turned it into some kind of indirect threat to her kids. I didn't understand the logic there. If anything her outburst sort of proved his point. That its unacceptable to bring people's children into this.

Parkland judge had to literally put up with SO MUCH in that courtroom from the public defenders it was beyond ridiculous & unprofessional. I can’t even believe that was a real trial in a real courtroom for a high profile case for a literal mass school shooting. Absolutely disgusting & disgraceful. The judge did a phenomenal job & if you did not watch the trial in it’s entirety then I do not want to hear otherwise. The Milwaukee Christmas parade mass killing was just… bizarre beyond belief. The judge was amazingly patient & showed her professionalism throughout!
@beardofnursing8602

Completely agree with you regarding Judge Dorow. She hardly raised her voice despite Brooks's awful and ugly behavior. Now the other judge, and yes I read what you said and didn't watch the whole trial but saw a lot of the defense's "lowlights", and despite their awful and completely unprofessional behavior, I can't get behind this judge's behavior. Don't get me wrong, the guy is a monster and deserves whatever is coming to him. And the defense team needs to face some kind of consequences for their childish and unprofessional actions. But people behaving badly doesn't give you a right to sink to that level. Yelling at the defense about them supposedly threatening her children was ridiculous. That was completely misrepresenting what the guy had said. That was probably an inappropriate comment he made, but I don't think it warranted the earful she gave him and kicking him out. Again if we're comparing behavior, the defense's was far worse than the judge's, but a lot of us have to go to jobs and can't yell at clients, coworkers, patients, customers, etc despite them treating us horribly. And the fact that she acted that way with the jury in the room (correct me if I'm wrong about that), seems completely wrong. Pretty sure any time Dorow had to "scold" Brooks, she made sure the jury wasn't in the room. Not trying to argue/fight with you. I think you offered a great perspective, and I'm just offering a slightly different and admittedly more limited perspective since I didn't watch the whole Parkland trial. I guess at the end of the day, it doesn't matter too much since both the killers in Parkland and the Waukesha parade deserve the worst sentences no matter what.

The Parkland judge, despite having to deal with inappropriate defense counsel, failed to show proper judgment at the impact statement portion of the sentencing hearing. She actually created an opportunity for appeal of portions of the sentence. The judge's reaction to the defense attorney's comments proved their point. The Chief Public Defender did not deserve to be treated the way he was. He exhibited the most calm of everyone and was trying to help the situation. You don't need to watch the entire trial to determine if that was improper.
