That’s just it though, some cars don’t have an ABUNDANCE of parts, especially like on Craigslist you could simply scroll down the feed and build an entire Silverado 1500 purely from buying 99-07 parts lmfao shits great!

There are two million mile tundras with original engines that had no engine work done, the transmissions lasted over 700,000 miles. One actually wasn't bad, it needed flushed. The other lost reverse at 760,000 miles and they just fixed the reverse instead of rebuilding the transmission and it still made it to over 1 million miles. And they regularly hauled and towed well over what they were rated at. The interiors held up very well, the seats weren't torn and didnt sag.

@@ab4drmuscl807 ive got a crew cab 5.7. I really dont need (or want) the 5.7 but I do understand why toyota limits the number of options... it keeps production much easier and cheaper... that 4.7 is a real nice motor and for someone like me who uses a pickup as a person and stuff mover not towing, it would be the best choice... next time around I wont need the full crew cab so i can drop to the 4.7 and double cab

Good video. I bought a new Chevy Silverado in 2000. 4.8 v8. Still driving it. It's been a family truck and a work truck. 364k miles currently. Still has stock engine and transmission. The only thing I've had to repair is 1 water pump, 3 oil sending units, and 2 fuel pumps. I nearly totaled it in 2003 but it's still going strong.

My longest runner was a 72 Chev Caprice. It had well over 300,000 miles with no repairs except water pump, shocks, alternator, brakes and exhaust system. A 400ci V-8. It was during the nationwide 50mph speed limit and miles were mostly highway trips. To what extent those conditions contributed to the trouble free miles I cannot say, but it is the most reliable vehicle I have owned.

Agree on the Silverados. I recently gave away an '87 1500 long bed with 500K+ miles on it, original motor (5.7) and trans (the old massive industrial 4-speed with the non-synchro granny low gear, invincible transmission). I kept my '89 Suburban, tho, since it's practically new with "only" 235K miles. Great old trucks!

I have a 95 Dodge Dakota 318 4x4 with over 300k, never had any major issues and somehow it survived being abused on the farm, survived my highschool years of neutral drops, burn outs, racing, towing over 11k and getting it stuck in mud pits and it still goes today, everything works, 4x4, transmission and engine. Only problem ever from engine was a timing chain cover that had to be replaced. Next I have a 96 Dodge Ram V10, 4x4, 5spd with over 500k, it spent the first half of its life towing horse trailers all over the country, then we bought it to tear up on the farm and it has been a beast. Gone over the scales at 32k, still runs great, I am driving it to a construction site today. It has only had the 5th gear nut come loose once and the vacuum line for 4x4 has had to be replaced several times because it gets caught on all kinds of stuff driving through pastures, terrible design. Finally I have an 07 Dodge Ram 5.9, 4x4 with 380k, it doesn't count because the whole truck is after market and my daily driver. The whole engine was pulled and rebuilt and balanced, big turbo added, transmission is fully built, driveline, dual CP3 pumps, injectors, etc. It makes 800hp to the wheels and I have beaten the dodge Charger Hellcat with it. It doesn't count because it's all after market and it costs a lot of money to keep this thing running perfect when it's making 300% over stock and has all the bells and whistles to be making over 1300hp with just another turbo and larger injectors.

Excellent ! Ive got a 99 silverado 4x4 5.3 gas i bought used for 8500 a yr ago and it had only 73k original miles from an 88 yr old man that only used it to pull his boat. Its got 80k on it now and has undergone $4000 in upgrades and love that ive done to it. The 99's with 5.3 do have piston slap due to too short of skirts of pistons only when cold, BUT this is a super strong and torquey truck that has been very reliable. GM released a formal statement acknowledging the piston issue and claims will not prevent these trucks from achieving over 300k miles. Thank you for your channel. Im a fan! I can only wonder what this truck might achieve over time, but i plan to sell with in the next 20k miles and go newer tundra. Thanks again, keep up the good work. Also, from your other video i saw u had a red 5.0 mustang. I too was a big fan of this type of car. I had a 1990 black on black 5.0 GT that i loved loved loved! With upgrades also. Hey, great minds! Thanks again.

Couldn't agree more. Any Diesel pre-1997 is Smog exempt in California and the price is skyrocketing in the used market. $25K for a used 4x4 Diesel! Of course, it would cost almost $100K for the same rig new! Bunch of crap. DEALERS Regularly Advertise $10K off MSRP! so you know the profit margin is huge. Greedy bastards.

My dad bought his 95 silverado z71 with the 350 brand new. It has 460k miles on it and has never been rebuilt. Original engine and trans have never been opened up or repaired. Only small issue, starter, 4wd actuator, egr, water pump, and a set of wheel bearings, leaking oil cooler line and a torn CV boot. I honestly think that’s all the problems he has had with it in the last 23 years he has owned it. To add to that my last truck was a 2012 silverado 4x4 1500 and I used it to tow my trailer all over US. It lasted 200k on the original engine and trans but now I have gone to the dark side and bought a 2018 ram 3500 diesel because I didn’t like that the GM trucks def tank hung down so low. It’s going to the dealer later this week for its second check engine light on and it only got 7200 miles. Fingers crossed it’s not a lemon 🍋

It has 299,400 mile on it with only what I consider minor repairs, alt., distributor, battery, radiator, brake job, etc. No major problems with the engine at all. The transmission has had a small slip in it from 1st to 2nd gear for the last 4 years and hasn't gotten any worse, but I am waiting for the hammer to drop on that one. This truck was assembled at the Ford Plant in Norfolk, VA., and I plan on keeping it to see how much longer it will last. In October it will be 23 years old.

I have a 1998 dodge ram 2500 12V Cummins with about 285k miles. It’s had a lot of work done to it turning into a beast. Injectors, beefed up turbo, tranny, etc. I had a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 LTZ, but back in August of 2023, while parked, it caught fire burning down a house, a Tesla and travel trailer. There is nothing left of the truck. We believe from forensics that there was an electrical issue around the fuse box / electrical area, left side, drivers side, under the hood, that caused the truck to catch fire and almost burn down the neighborhood. Again, while the truck was off and parked. GM/Chevy has had issues with their vehicles arching at the fuse box. It’s a bummer cause I liked that truck, but can’t see myself getting back into one after this situation.

I have rebuilt the transmission, replaced the head gasket, and installed head studs in order to handle other motor modifications. The weakest link in these trucks is the crappy transmission behind arguably the best diesel motor ever built. I feel like his info was biased.... he called a 3 way tie yet the dodge rams had nearly double the mileage of most the other manufacturers....how is that a tie? The dodge definitely wins the shittiest seats competition though!!

My 2002 Tundra Limited had 351K miles on it when I sold it to my stepson for one dollar. He has had it for 4 years, now with over 400K miles. All original engine, transmission and rear-end. Replaced shocks at 300K, and a power steering hose, that is it. If these trucks are well maintained, they will run well over 1 million miles. They do go through front brakes sooner than most, but by using original Toyota rotors, they last quite well. This Tundra with towing package towed a 7,000 pound travel trailer all over the western United States. It is still on the road and running strong. Back in 2001-2002, Toyota was just breaking into the half ton truck market (upgraded from the T1000) and they over built these trucks. I had so many offers to buy my truck right out of my driveway by passers by. Landscapers and gardeners love these old Tundras because all you have to do is change the oil regularly and they will keep on going. Any newer truck should last the same if well maintained and not abused.

Rock on buddy! I just found a rust free 02' 1500 HD. Only has 130k. Only problem is she shifts hard after being on highway. All searches show torque converter needs replaced. I have done all scheduled maintenance on it since I've had it for 3 months. Any issues with yours or ideas? Thanks alot
