As a so called “4C” curly girl who’s been watching KZbin naturals for over a decade, this is the first channel where the advice has actually yielded good results for me, and my hair type isn’t even represented here. I almost wonder if that’s the benefit? Probably because his hair advice meets the universally vital needs. Not so distracted by textures.

@TheJoyce306 Жыл бұрын
That’s because most of our education on natural hair is based off of our individual experiences. Because he’s in a professional space, he’s working with far more textures than most of these KZbinrs do. This isn’t to take away their education but that’s centered on THEIR own experience :)

UPDATE: For me PERSONALLY. It came out to be a toss up like anything else… but I’ll stay rocking with that olaplex #3. Ultimately it came to a conglomerate of what I’ve learned from all sources over the years. I mean essentially it is pretty similar to the loc method. Over all I’m just done with extensions, weaves, and elaborate braid styles. I know some type 4’s hate to hear it but your hair won’t grow down your butt till you just wear it normal.

I really appreciate you being honest and transparent in a world full of facades. I have been struggling with alopecia and telogen effluvium since 2018. This is excellent advice. I create products and have developed toners for over 10 years. It is really difficult trying to get people to understand the double negative of purple shampoo. In fact, with every brand now bringing out a purple shampoo I don’t think blondes realise some purple shampoos can actually ruin the tonal blonde your colourist created. A lot of purple shampoos are very alkaline so the cuticle raises so the acid Violet 43 can deposit. However, if your colourist has used an oxidation colourant or toner, this alkaline purple shampoo will just pull out all that permanent blonde tone and cause the hair to get more and more yellow. Purple shampoo will be fine on raw bleached hair but on well oxidation toned hair it causes the hair to become brassier which then makes the individual use it more! Drop me a line if you’d like me to explain more. Best Scott
@kbisamfg

So then what do you recommend people use to refresh/keep up their toned blonde hair? I’m licensed so I’m able to purchase my normal toners (Redkin shadesEQ) and apply them but for someone who isn’t a licensed cosmetologist, would they have to go to their stylist for just a tone in between bleaching/lightening appointments? Also: Is using only a clear gloss toner (Redkin shades EQ) to brighten/refresh the color a good idea?

This made me laugh. I have always wondered why people use so many products on their hair and on their skin. I read one post where someone was asking about what order they ought to use the 6 - 9 products they use on their skin. I use two things on my hair - shampoo and conditioner (not expensive ones). I don't wash my hair every day, When I do, I wash my scalp with very little shampoo. I use the conditioner from about mid way down to the roots. Whenever I go get a trim, the stylist remarks on how healthy my hair is. I admit I don't do much with my hair - rarely blow dry, no rollers, no hot irons, don't dye it, (love my greys coming in) so that may be part of the reason I don't have damage. I just don't buy into the marketing of the eight millions products you 'have' to have for your hair or skin.

You’re right about the scalp scrub.I had dandruff, and this is what worked: -shampoo time longer ( 2-3 minutes) -shampoo (lather rinse and repeat) if you use a lot of products -comb flakes out with a fine tooth comb before you shower - Nizoral 2X a week until flakes are gone- then once a month. I also like how shiny and bouncy my hair looks after Nizoral. My hairdresser would also point out the dry scalp I had. She tells me that my scalp looks way better. Dry and irritated scalp will deter hair growth imo.

I’ve watched about 15 videos now and in the majority of them you have recommended Olaplex oil. To watch this video and hear you give a super honest, non-supportive review of olaplex with no hesitation was like, “wow 😳” this dude is being real. I have very long fine hair and have caused a lot of damage and loss (unintentionally of course). I also have gone many years without cutting due to religious reasons. … At times I’ve been very discouraged that the hair I have will only get worse and I’m only 40. (Have a lot of years to go still!) I’m ordering the products now and hoping this will save my hair! Thank you for the info I am curious and haven’t heard you talk much about the health effects of some of these products? It’s known that products with fragrance are often hormone disruptors. Thank you for this! I have used high end salon products and humble drugstore products. When it comes to shampoo and conditioner, I find that the water in your house has as much to do with the condition of your hair as the product itself along with how you treat it when you style it. Dove super-hydrating products work as well as Pureology and much better than the Moroccan Oil line on my dry, curly, aging hair. Gentle, lukewarm, minimal heat, accounting for moisture needs and regular trims are superior to spending $45 on a bottle of shampoo.

I LOVE Olaplex - my hair is particularly heat damaged and I’m addicted to straightening so I use no.3 several times a week with no.2 (got a bottle from a stylist) on the weekend. Then I use no.9 and a really tiny amount of 6 mixed with a few drops of 7. It took a while to get the “dosage” right - the smallest amount of 6 and 7 is *way* better, the smallest you can get away with. I also shampoo and condition with Milkshake Moisture Plus, which are the best I’ve ever used. The cost of living is biting a bit now so I’ve been buying salon-size bottles as it works out cheaper per ml in the end.

Bingo about Olaplex. It really is only necessary in low doses. I use No. 5, 6, and 9 and all three are AMAZING (esp. 6, and 9) for my thick, coarse hair. They make it soft/shiny/strong, but I only put a little at a time. Their products last a long time in your hair, even if you go in the shower and get your hair wet. It’s weird because I e-mailed them and asked if I should reapply those three products every day since I get my hair wet every day, and the person who responded was like “Oh yeah, they’re safe to use every day because we use silicones that will wash off with water,” but if you look at the ingredient list 5 & 6 DO have silicones that don’t wash off with just water. I was like why are they saying I can use them everyday then??? When I finally realized that and started using their products solely on the days I wash my hair and then adding a tiny bit to my ends the day after, my hair started looking even better, and it wouldn’t get build up as fast. On the bright side though, Olaplex lasts forever. My first bottle of No. 6 lasted me a year and a half which is amazing.

I own #3 (treatment) and #8 (mask). Once every 4-5 washings, I decide which one my hair needs - treatment plus standard conditioner or a deep mask. I use a small amount, focusing on my ends, and let it sit on my wet hair up to an hour. It works magic. I have no interest in any of the other products.

The best discovery I made with products is the less products the better. A good mask, a quality shampoo and conditioner, a good leave-in and a decent oil or serum and my curls are lightweight and last longer than adding curling cream and/or a mouse and gel. Cutting those two products out made my curls amazing.

I want to thank you for giving me what I think of as a miracle. So you understand why, I need to tell you that I am disabled and have a terminal illness. I live on a very tiny income, so I have bought drugstore hair products For at least the last three years. I have been play with itchy dandruff and very dry hair and had no idea why. I knew I couldn’t afford to buy some professional products until after the Christmas season, but I decided to try using your techniques for washing hair and conditioning hair with what I had on hand anyway. I made two changes. I started primarily shampooing my scalp, and I started using a leave in conditioner spray right after showering. Within just three weeks, my itchy scalp and flakes have reduced by about 80%, and my hair feels light and bouncy, not dry and flyaway like it used to be. I can only imagine how much better it will feel and behave when I am able to afford a professional shampoo. For now, I am thrilled to be able to say that I can go five days between washing, And my hair is still comfortable and looks good. This is likely to be my last Christmas with my daughter and grandchildren, and I am so excited that I will be looking nice when they come to visit. It is a Christmas present itself to look good again. 😁

I've bought everything you've recommended for fine, long hair. You're the real MVP. I am now actually saving money because I use so little hair product only washing my hair every Tuesday. I can save my always-wanting-to-find-the-next-best-thing for makeup instead of expensive hair care. 😅😅 (but seriously, need to chill on that!) I easily achieved what I want in terms of looks, health, & feel just by being fortunate enough to have KZbin throw you in my feed. 😘 I understand your specialty/recommendations/advice will not work for everyone, but damn if they don't work perfect for me! Pulp Riot Berlin? 🔥👍🏼 All of these products go on sale. Happy Holidays!

I disagree with overnight treatments. There is a certain kind of person who can use them: they do not excessively style their hair (wears as is or uses physical tools to keep it in place rather styling products) and has dry hair that does not get oily quickly. Not all of us are washing our hair everyday or every couple days. I use one of these overnight treatments over 10 years ago and I do think it was useful.

Professor, good morning, I have graying thick wavy hair that was originally strawberry blonde, that I've colored with either henna or store bought color. My troubles were not so much with color, but with finding the right cleansing/conditioning routine. After 50 plus years of struggles with drugstore dandruff shampoos to combat steadily increasing flakes and oil, and conditioners that never quite did what they were touted as doing, I found your videos and they make a lot of sense. I believe the cheap shampoo and conditioners exacerbated the extra oil and scalp flaking, rather than helping. I used plain Castile soap for two weeks when I ran out (I was a long haul truck driver last year and shopping for girl stuff on the road was out of the question timewise!) and the flaking decreased ...looking for more answers, I found your videos. They make a LOT of sense. That said, i bought my first bottle of Olaplex oil and a sample size of the Redken cleansing cream yesterday. Looking forward to trying in a couple days. I have a sampler of the 10+ leave in conditioner and since I either air dry or limit my blow dry with a diffuser, I don't have as much heat damage as I could have. I'm starting out slow. Thank you for sharing your industry knowledge with us! I am curious as to your opinion of color gloss products, I used to get the Schwarzkopf Agora color gloss foam on Amazon and it really seemed to strengthen my hair, and I grew it out almost down to my elbows, but it seems to be gone now. Again, thank you and keep up the good work.

Thank you, I only wash my hair once a week. I use only three Kerastase sulfate free hair products. I use croma absolu shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. Before I blow dry I use Kerastase Resistance Serum Therapiste as leave in to protect hair from heat of blow dryer. Dermatologist on a show said never blow dry soaking wet hair, let it air dry a bit. She also said wash hair once a week. The leave in only goes from mid shaft to ends. I use a Kerastase spray oil to give my hair a shine if needed. Spray a little in hand rub hands together and lightly rub on hair. Make sure to find out from your stylist what is the right shampoo for your hair type. Never rub your hair with a towel, it causes frizz and dryness. Nice to see someone say less is more.

As a 30+ year veteran in the cosmetology industry I have to confess the push to buy and sell is placed on the professional from within the industry…I personally have worked with companies that manufacture professional beauty products and the push is to sell …the more the better all the while promising the professional stylists income increases…. And their poor clients walk away feeling great and most likely won’t even use the product in full … I’ve even had clients tell me “ why don’t you know about this “ product “ I saw a KZbin or Instagram influencer use … so “ like if “ you don’t recommend the same to me then you must not be very “ current “ or “good “ at your job … yeah …crazy huh ! I personally only sell what I feel my clients need … as far as toning shampoo and conditioner duos I agree … shampoo or conditioner or better yet mask ..if all three are pushed beware as even the stylist might have fallen for the sales “ scam” fed them by manufacturer…so it all boils down to plain ol’ common sense and trial and error

My hair completely changed after having my son 20 years ago. I never had any issues with my scalp or hair. After pregnancy, my scalp is often itchy a couple days after washing it. My hair looks oily hours after washing it, and my ends dry out quickly. I only get my hair cut once a year or so. I don't really notice split ends, and I do get length so I don't think I'm suffering from tons of breakage. It is super, baby fine though. And at 46 yrs old, it's getting thinner. I started using Ouai leave in conditioner on my ends and that has helped tremendously with the dry ends. I shampoo and condition with Hask Biotin every three or four days.

Oribe,the green bottle series,I use the cream only,but there are different products depending how strong hold needed. Best combo ever for my fine curly hair: Philip B oil mask(best leave in overnight,yup I said it). Then Philip B forever shine oud shampoo,so their volumizing lightweight conditioner. So; Augustinus Bader leave in conditioner plus Oribe styling butter curl enhancing créme. Airdry. So roll up hair around two or one fingers depending on type curls wanted. Secure with bobbypins. Overnight,and then voilà. There it is my secrets revealed. I dont trust hairdressers,for a reason. They never tell it all. Now,I have. Find your own variations that works.👍

This is so strange, but today I was washing my hair and thought why do I keep using purple shampoo when it dries the hell out of my hair. So instead, I used a small amount of gentle shampoo twice to wash and then applied my purple treatment and toning mask for 10 minutes. (Followed by leave in conditioner and serum oil at the ends.) My hair looks and feels so much better. I then watched this video and felt vindicated about ditching the purple shampoo for good. When I used to get a relaxer, I could get away without hair oil or leave-in conditioner and could flat iron my hair with a heat protectant and had silky results as long as I deep conditioned with heat. Now my hair is natural, I have to have way more products in order to manage the dryness.
