It always makes me so happy seeing you talk about Broom Service on this channel. It was one of the first board games I ever really clicked with, and it's so odd to me that it rarely gets talked about (despite being from a well known designer and having won the kennerspiel when it came out). It seems like it had been out of stock for awhile, but it's so exciting to see that it's available to buy again so I can recommend it to people

It is unique and screams ‘this game should be big’ (probably needs a reprint though) and while I loved it at first, you can have some real dud plays where you just get hosed due to bad luck. Mixing euro and bluffing is a very risky move.

FYI: Sons of Anarchy is republished as Wise Guys, with an old-timey mobster theme. SUSD says it still holds up, perhaps even better because the violence is a bit softened.

Recently discovered this channel when i got back into board games after converting my mates post lockdown from boozy nights down the pub with a late curry to boozy nights at home with a board game and a delivered curry. Love the humour and the perspectives and you’ve encouraged me to find and join my local board games club. Hope to see you at UK Games Expo 2022 and thank you personally in a totally non-creepy-stalker way ALOL.

If only the Pursuit of Happiness was a tiny bit worse, it could been number 42 - the meaning of Life, The Universem and Everything! But totally a great pick. I feel like it's what I imagined The Game of Life to be like BEFORE I for first played The Game of Life and waddled into disappointment. But the pursuit of happiness is no disappointment! It's the endless possibility of what you life could have been like. I never play to win; just play to try a different life. I always choose a different sexuality, gender, lifestyle, interest, to just immerse myself in a life so unlike my own. It's fantastic. Love the reviews as always.

Great video as usual. Thanks I have been in pursuit for The Pursuit of Happiness for a few years now. I saw your reference to a link to getting hold of this elusive thing you call happiness… however your link does not appear to be working for me and so I remain upon that hunt. I honestly find games like The Pursuit of Happiness really depressing. They show a version of life that only existed for baby boomers, where you can follow your dreams and maybe reach them, instead of living paycheck to paycheck in a tiny apartment with three income sources. Not to mention the heteronormativity usually involved in this sort of game, not portraying any (unfortunate) hallmarks of queer life, like living in frozen fear til you're 18 then getting kicked out onto the street by a family who hates you. Not that escapism isn't good for some people, but in that case I'd rather go for a full-on fantasy world with dragons and stuff. That seems way more pleasant. And I never know how to articulate all that to my friends when they want to play life sim games.
@actualol2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your perspective! I can see why it could feel like that. It is definitely an unrealistic version of life with all the hard edges shaved off. I think you explained it really well and if my friend told me that's why they didn't want to play it, I'd totally understand.

Love the channel! Never really comment on your videos although I love to watch them. I felt compelled because Broom Service is my most disliked game ever!!! Absolutely detest it. That said, that’s what’s so amazing about our hobby!! For every game I dislike, there is someone who loves it and every game I love, someone dislikes it. Keep up the good work man! I enjoy seeing some of the older games that deserve some love (or a second look / exposure at least)

It’s perfect for younger kids. Easy for them to learn and understand. Also just enough strategy that adults will enjoy a play or two at a sitting. Also a good game if you have a group of people new to the hobby.

I’ve played it many times with my family including kids as young as 7. It’s so fun! With my teens I play more aggressively and strategically, but I also enjoy playing in a more friendly, collaborative way with younger kids. Definitely recommend!

Magic Maze and The Pursuit of Happiness I can 💯 % get behind. Have you tried to be married to 2 different people and win the game yet in pursuit of happiness? I've never been able to get that strategy to work, but it's cool that it's an option. My wife beat me with that strategy at the end of her life, so it is doable! Edit: To be clear, my wife did that in the board game. 😅💦
