If there were any such things as ghosts, it would be nice for them to haunt the hell out of all those crooks and for those who would even think about doing such evil and wicked things to the remains of someone's loved ones!!!!

I live in Jacksonville and the Howell case was huge. He had the indigent contract with the city. It took the city a couple years to dig up graves and identify the deceased. He was putting multiple bodies in caskets and charging the city for each case. He didn’t even own that building and believe it or not him and his wife were living there as well. They did an article on people in Jacksonville about 10 years later about people who were arrested for scandals and what they’re doing now. He was delivering pizzas for Pizza Hut. He claimed he had a drinking problem that led him to do what he did. They finally tore the building down a few years after it was shut down.

All of the cases are disturbing, but the ones involving fetuses bother me the most. Maybe it has something to do with the trauma of having lost so many babies myself, but I feel like it's extra evil to mistreat a fetus or deceased baby. This was already a life that was so incredibly vulnerable to begin with, and that tiny baby deserves the utmost care and protection. Stuffing those babies away like last seasons wardrobe is just plain evil. I don't understand how anyone could be so cold or uncaring.

I remember as a kid hearing about a funeral home somewhere ( 50ish years later I don't remember now) that was selling bodies to med schools as donated cadavers without the families knowledge. Sandbags were placed in the caskets so it felt like there was a body inside and were buried. They got caught when a body was exhumed for a 2nd autopsy and the casket was filled with sandbags. They had been doing this for quite a while and even the funeral home had lost count of how many sandbag caskets had been buried. Now that's naughty!

I'm sad for all the families who's loved ones were sooo abused. It surprises me that more of the funeral home owners were not given long prison terms. I live next door to a large cemetery, which contains 2 chapels and a crematorium. They are subjected to several unannounced inspections and 1 major audit annually. Because I love to walk in the graveyard, I've seen the inside of the facilities. Everything is really well organised and the entire place is spotless. Having watched this video, I wonder if there is sufficient oversight of crematoriums and funeral homes in the US?

You're being nice with regard to the first one! This is not naughty, it's criminal! I do, however, think downgrading those charges was for the best! Most likely was part of a plea bargain that saved the families the continued trauma of a trial. Loss of their license and a lot of community service still send a powerful message about inappropriate photography! I also think social media has got out of control with people trying to top others. This is why I don't have accounts on most of them!

Kari, I think that it is so important that we, the public are made aware of these "naughty funeral homes " it makes one frightened knowing that these despicable things can happen to our loved ones who as you said cannot defend themselves. It's so sad to think that people who we are trusting with something so sacred can be so morally wrong. They must be aware of the pain that they are causing the people who are grief stricken about the loss of their loved one never mind having to deal with such horrific sercumstances such as the ones you have described. Many years, while on Active Duty in the US Army. i was in charge of a Funeral Detail which involved escorting a fallen Soldier from one town to another via Airlines. Upon meeting the Funeral Director and Family on the Airstrip. The first question the Family asked me was what and why to where , by design that I did nor know the Fallen Soldier. It made it very very hard to deliver the Fallen Soldier. For those folk that desecrate the Dead, there will be a special place in Hell for those Folks ! Thank you

I know of one story in Springfield Ohio where the funeral home took money for pre arrangements and the owner/director was unable to keep up with the funerals. He ended up committing suicide.

This behavior is beyond despicable. No excuses. Throw the book at them. People who seek to profit off the vulnerable don't deserve to draw air. Unfortunately it is all too common, and in many professions on more levels than I want to think about. People with integrity, such as yourself, deserve kudos to the 10th msgnitude. After reading a trade magazine online about your industry, I was amazed at the hundreds of ways you have to pay to get in business and stay there. Even to get loans for startup. It seems like vultures are hanging over every element of the industry. Bless you.😊❤

I had no idea that funeral homes would be this dark.. I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around all this.. How does one determine a good funeral home versus a bad one ? I am also wondering about the family members that fell victims to all these cases- especially the ones with the babies- I’ve lost a few babies, luckily I haven’t had any bad experiences. I had one buried and one cremated. The babies in these cases bother me more in all of it. However I am still sad and bothered by all the deceased

As hard as it might be, it's very important to figure out which funeral home you want to use when it comes times. We are all going to die, but trying to make funeral arrangements when you are an emotional wreck is not easy. There are a lot of honest ones out there, but there's a lot of bad ones to. I have a friend in the funeral business who gave me some tips. 1. Don't waste your money on a super fancy stainless steel coffin. It's not going to preserve the body. 2. Don't fall for the upgrade of a sealer on the coffin to keep it air tight. It's nothing more than a rubber gasket that will blow out as pressure builds 3. Don't fall for the upgraded coffin vault either. 4. Embalming is not mandatory. 5. Have friends and family print cards and invitations. 6. That obituary ad in the paper will probably cost you 500.00. 7. Always get at least 10-15 death certificates. You will be surprised at how many you need. 8. Bring a friend or family member with you to make arrangements. A person who isn't emotionally hurting inside. They can greatly help you avoid being taken advantage of.

I would add to have discussions with your family as to everyone’s wishes and check prices before the services are needed. Be realistic about death.

Ohhh Yeah!! Naughty AF! Every profession has naughty stories but funeral homes should be sacred! I wonder how these people weren't caught sooner. How do you they let bodies rot and no one knows with the smell. We have all been to funeral homes, they don't smell bad. It usually smells of fresh flowers and incense. Even if the place closed down wouldn't the utilities workers, mail carrier, someone..anyone smell the bodies. So awful for all those families :(. Another great video Kari! We've been looking forward to this one :)

We had news of abuse of a corpse here in Mo.The first one was a young lady funeral director who claimed she had sex with a wealthy gentleman an was pregnant with his child... another incident was a funeral home worker who was having sex with females who were in their care.He would get drunk at a local bar an brag about his conquests with corpses,Apatow at the bar reported this to the police who in turn started an investigation an caught him with his pants down.I believe he still is in the area on probation of course.Hope you an the girls have a great weekend.

It doesn't take many horrific stories like these that scare people regarding funeral homes. The vast majority of people never have any contact with funeral homes until they're forced to so never know any morticians personally, consequently having to trust them strictly on faith. It can be very scary.

Good for you for outing the bad apples in your OWN profession. Now if we could get Cops, Lawyers, Doctors, Judges and Politicians to do the same, maybe the world would be a better, safer place. But it'll NEVER happen. Carry on with your ethics and integrity. It's refreshing to see.

As the Altadena fire truck was climbing the grade toward the foothill crematory that was stuffed with bodies and ablaze, there was a several block long ribbon of burning fat running down along the gutter and into the storm drain. The Captain aboard the pumper was heard to say "this doesn't look good at all." At least David Sconce ended up in prison for his illegal funerary antics

I'm still surprised Thor Thorson/Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, WI didn't make the list, if for nothing else, having an unlicensed apprentice acting as a licensed funeral director when he never did have a license. There are rumors of embezzlement as well but the first has been proven & Thor was cited/his license was suspended for 2-3 days.

Oh, on the 'removal permits' that I mentioned earlier, I asked our 'funeral director friend', Tom Stafford, apparently each state has its own 'rules/regulations & removal permits are a 'Wisconsin thing', just to make sure it's an actual funeral director (or at minimum, an apprentice) that are doing the removals/taking the remains into their care.

What I don't understand is why some families doesn't pick up the remains of their deceased loved ones. Didn't the family love that person. I don't understand how these places got away with not performing the funeral service. That's not something that would go un noticed by the family.
