"Build me an app" hits differently when they ask you to make them one when you're young and in school. Usually the reply is, "yea i can!" because you want to show off how well you (think) you could do it. Then fastforward through high school and college and month 6 as a web dev and they ask you the same question: "well, uh.. how much are you paying me to make it? And do you even have a mock up for the design? Android/iOS? Do you have an established company that needs this type of tech solution or is the app the idea itself? I can set up a contract with a family discount." *discounts 10% of market rate*
@HandledToaster2
@HandledToaster2 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, well, you're more valuable at that point. As a beginner, making that free app is actually good for you since you'll get practice, you can show it on your portfolio, and you learn how bad of an idea it is to work for free.

Self-taught was the only way, other than an expensive college, for me to learn coding when I did. That was at a young age and I'm 60 now. Was I stressed out, hell no. I did it for fun, and was obsessed with computers. When I had a paying job to create a software for a company and did it completely on my own it made me feel like a god. But now I can't believe the resources that are available for free to anyone who does want to learn. Quite envious of it. Today's coders have a lot more stress due to deadlines but at least they don't have to create all that code from scratch, or have only their own mind to depend or fall back on. My brother had it worse because he was 10 years before me and coding in fortran, which again he was completely self taught.

I just spent 6 months refactoring and debugging the "hello mars" program i wrote for my spacex interview. Elon and i apparently don't see eye to eye on things but I 'd be a great fit for techlead. Where do i apply?

Wow the Ctrl C + V heat map is hilarious 😂. I think a Key sign that you’re a programmer: you always think of more efficient way of doing stuff - (in life too) but actually follow through maybe 20% of the time in the actual “doing” part of it. :p

I think realistically, a good sign of a good programmer is curiosity and the ability and motivation to solve problems autonomously. A lot of your job as a programmer hinges on your ability to tackle problems you don't know an immediate answer or solution to.

as a programmer i think the most important traits are high IQ and teamwork. Toxicity kills team productivity majority of low skill and low IQ people will result to all manners of toxic behavior to protect their job/advance.
