Therapeutic diets are promoted everywhere and for a multitude of symptoms. Whether it’s low fodmap, sibo diet, low carb, low histamine and of course elimination diets.
But what is the actual evidence for these? And how do we personalise them to us?
On the podcast with me is Ben Brown, my go to expert when it comes to anything nutrition and supplement related. Ben is founder and director of the Nutritional Medicine Institute, an educational, advocacy and research group committed to advancing the science and practice of nutritional medicine.
Ben is on the academic advisory board and a guest lecturer at BCNH College of Nutrition and Health and guest lectures at the Institute of Optimum Nutrition and the Centre for Nutrition Education & Lifestyle Management.
On this episode we dive into the evidence base for a ton of diets, how one would test for a gluten intolerance, we also talk about home test kits for things like allergies and intolerances and whether they’re at all worth it.
If you want to hear more from Ben and you’re interested in these topics I highly recommend you check out the NMI conference that will be on later this year in October 2024. I attended last year and I was blown away by the quality of lectures from medical doctors, researchers and nutrition professionals. This years theme is “Mitochondrial Nutrition for Fatigue, the Brain, and Healthy Ageing” check it out here: www.nmi.health...

Interesting discussion. Have you read William Rea,MD’s 4 medical textbooks on Environmental Illness. He had patients from across the world who couldn’t get help. He tested people on many different foods, substances, metals, common allergies, etc as well as doing detoxification treatments. He worked with ultra sensitive patients and had good results with many. Some who were too sensitive to enter his building met outdoors. Some went to a healer who has now retired but -listen-when there is damage to structures in the energy field it affects the body’s functioning. She saved lives and misery by her ability to repair those broken parts. Maybe that is part of what yoga helps. There is also a unique frequency in every organ of the body. There is much more to say but she did things doctors couldn’t do. People who saw her had seen multiple doctors. She had people sometimes also see a therapist.

I would love to hear anything you have to say about preservatives in our food. If preservatives keep food from breaking down, it would seen obvious to me that it will prevent proper digestion as well. Am I right?

The problem is GPs are reluctant to authorise a lot of tests. I have all bar one symptom of SIBO but my GP and NHS dietician refuse to test for it 🤷‍♀️. I have such severe bloating, I look 6 months pregnant. I've tried fodmap, with the GPs guidance and cut out gluten, lactose, beans and onions however I'm still struggling. I take probiotics, peppermint and have a healthy diet. Gynea has also been ruled out. NHS are at a loss but no 'oscopys offered and no stool samples investigated. Can't afford to go private.

IgG testing is not reliable because it can indicate food frequency exposure. It also measures type III delayed hypersensitivity reactions when in reality, many illnesses today are associated with type IV sensitivity reactions. I have been using the MRT/LEAP test for food sensitivities in my practice with good results for about 20 years. It can identify both type III and type IV delayed hypersensitivity reactions. There is some research published and more ongoing

That and anything Mediterranean pretty much, oh and Ivan tea from Russia. Actually Ivan tea is from an herb called fire weed. It does grow in other places besides Russia, like America and UK and few others. research all of this and you will see that it is interesting indeed!!!
