Three Key Takeaways: 1) For any type of business development, two things to keep in mind are, "How long is the sales cycle?" and "What is the potential reward?" Keeping these in mind will help you avoid making mistake number one (going after small deals), 2) Thinking long-term will be the best way to set yourself up for success. You'll be able to not only solve the current pain points for your prospect, but you'll be able to anticipate problems in the future and nip them in the bud, so to speak, early on in the sales cycle, 3) Building a solid lead generating machine is important because eventually you will close that deal (or it'll die out), and after that's happened, you don't want to have to start from zero again. Great video, Patrick! I accepted a job a month ago originally for an account coordinator role. I just got the email, and now they're transitioning my position to the business development coordinator. Is this a drop-in title if it's working for a digital marketing agency? I want to do well, so I use your vids as well as a ton of reading.

I'm not sure if it's a drop in title because those titles can mean different things at different companies. You would have to look at what the job description is. Usually it goes like this: Level 1) Your job is to do research to build company list and do outbound prospecting Level 2) Your job is to get on the phone with clients and close deals The more you're talking to clients, the higher position your role. if you are working as an independent BD, trying to close deals between two companies. how do you get your commission on the deal, if all go on well and successful?

work a deal with the supplier on how much commission you'll get before you start selling.
