I love this year's songs and I am elated that my country (Luxembourg) is finally back in the contest. I love to see other peoples rankings, especially when they explain what they like about the songs. It is so interesting to hear about other people's tastes, even if they differ from my own. Here is my personal top 10 for this year: 1. France (I really love the vocal talent that is Slimane. I don't care at all that the lyrics are a lil generic, that man could sing the phone book into the mic and I'd melt. I also love ballads and I can't get enough of this song.) 2. Serbia (Ramonda's slower somber, yet hopeful melody and its message and Teya Dora's excellent vocals make for a perfect package that imo really stands out against the pretty upbeat vibes that most songs are bringing this year.) 3. Portugal (I love Grito and this year's Festival da Cançao was amazing. Iolanda has great vocals and I definetly can hear the fado inspirations within this song. With the right improvements on the staging and mixing, this really could win it all. It is beautiful.) 4. Switzerland (I love the artistic vision of this song. The lyrics are well thought out and the mix of genres, which could have sounded a bit disjointed has been composed in a very organic-feeling way. I am so excited to see their costuming and staging for this entry in the live performance.) 5. Slovenia (This is my favourite witchy vibe song this year, I loved Raiven's live performance at DORA and with the right staging and costuming that plays into the strengths of this song, this could become a hit during the live.) 6. Luxembourg (I might be a little biased here, because it's played up a lot on the radio over here and I really want my country to do well. However I also think that it is an objectively really catchy song and the English and French mix could make this stand out from the other girl bops this year like Malta or Cyprus.) 7. Belgium (The chorus at the end is simply so powerful and I truly believe in Mustii's talent as a performer and entertainer. I am sure the staging will be creative and impactful.) 8. Norway (Gåte's song is showing all the things that I usually like in songs, strong female vocals, cultural elements, it's one of the few times Norway dared to sing in their native language in recent years and I truly want this to do well, so we'll see more Norvegian lyrics in Eurovision in the future.) 9. Azerbaijan (I really like Fahree's vocals and the fact that the song is using Azeri instead of being completely in English. I know many people have written this off as a nq in semi 1, but imo this song deserves a chance and it could become a dark horse in the competition depending on the live performance.) 10. Lithuania (The song is catchy and I liked the red color palette of the staging during the national final. I think that with better sound mixing and maybe a lil more energy from Silvesterbelt in the live performance, this could appeal to a large amount of televoters.)

Every year, I listen through the official playlist on shuffle with my phone face-down - I want to _hear_ the songs first, then look at the videos after I've had 2 listen-throughs. Other people seem to "listen" to the songs by looking at the official music videos … often with their pants down, by what seems to get picked as favorites. People seem to forget that it's the "Eurovision Song Contest" and not the "Eurovision Music Video Contest". Also, a lot of the songs written in English look like "phrase-salad" to me: catchy soundbyte-like phrases just all tossed together without anything holding it together. Songs should be poems set to music. That's what Italy sends, year after year after year: read the lyrics of their songs in translation and they can be biting social-commentary, or absolutely heart-rending. But, since not many speak Italian, the "I don't understand the language, therefore it's garbage" effect kicks in. This year, after my first full randomized blind-listen-through … nothing really stands out for me. They're all kinda blurred together. Except one song … which stood out in the _wrong_ way. It's so … eurgh! When I heard the chorus of Sweden's song, I started singing along, "this song's for-gettable." Then I skipped it, because it actually _grated_ on my nerves! I'm still listening to "Shum", "Hatrid Mun Cigra", and [of course] "Rise Like a Phoenix" all these years later. Last year's winner? Completely forgettable. The only way I'm able to even remember it at all is, "Think chocolate-milk+yodelling". I have to use a kooky mnemonic to even recall one part of the chorus, in the hope of remembering the rest … of the chorus. Meanwhile, I can probably still recite the lyrics to, "Traktor" from last year. [And then, there's Cyprus, which keeps sending "Fuego" with different lyrics every year…]

Roly and Eurovision, a perfect combo!! Never knew you were a fan for some reason but I'm sooo happy to see you making a video on Eurovision. My fav song/country this year was definitely Finland, I've been listening to No Rules constantly since I first heard it. It's such a happy, positive song, I love the Eurodance and 90s vibes and that performance was unique and just a lot of fun, my whole family found it hilarious! I was disappointed they scored so low, I expected them to do way better tbh. Austria also deserved so much better, I really appreciated the old school rave/acid house/breakbeat (?) influences. I also enjoyed Croatia, Lithuania and Switzerland this year, even though The Code wasn't my overall favourite song I still love it (as a non binary person myself haha) and I think Nemo was a worthy winner. Also v shocked and disappointed at the Netherlands being disqualified!!

Alrighty I will play, as a Canadian its honestly only the European YT and streamers talking about Eurovision that ever has me pay attention to it. But its was really fun last year. I'll go through your list, and I can guarantee our tastes will differ! Ireland was really fun, its not perfect but its interesting and instantly went in my Goth music mix LOL Hmmm I get it with Sweden, its such a strong call back to early 2000s club music its feels like an homage instead of something new though? Like I don't hate it but it doesn't feel new, and I found the multiple flashing lights made it very hard to watch (someone is going to have a seizure). Spain was... well interesting, fun mostly. UK felt kinda like background music to me, not going to be seeking it out and singing with it but its inoffensive (sorrrrry Roly), the live performance might change that. Lithuania kinda feels again like something I would have heard at Love Parade in 2000, the staging was kinda meh. Again not bad but doesn't stand out. Croatia is so silly and I love it LOL, I mean I missed the cat when I moved too. The Rim Tim Tagi Dim is very catchy. Denmark, very good singer, but uhh it feels like I have heard this song 100 times by so many other people and that outfit and staging is doing nothing for her Finland oh my gawd lol. Well it had me laughing from the start and uhh the outfits were something else. They will have to work on maybe singing in tune. The staging is so so much fun. Netherlands I uhh... if I thought the Finnish one was silly...listen. Wait did he make a Stromae reference. WHAT IS HAPPENING. Just ran it by my husband who was a raver in the 90s he approves Austria Those sunglasses were very popular late 90s, SNAP wants its organ and snare samples back. I get its a call back but, I went through this dance era once to pull so directly is kinda meh Australia Oh I love their voices, watching people groove for 3 minutes weird. I am not sure I like how it came together but there is something there just feels like it needs to be refined. Ukraine I always love a good contralto. I wish I understood the rap part. I feel like they couldn't hear themselves for some reason. SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS I feel like I am going to swing and miss by putting Ireland and Croatia at the top of my list as it stands

6:00 idk if you made a mistake with Bambie's pronouns, but Bambie is non binary and goes by they/them pronouns. Anyway idk what RTE do with the sound mixing on the Late Late Show, all the acts sound so unbalanced. When I first heard Bambie's song I wasn't sure of it myself and honestly RTE'S sound quality did not help. After listening a couple more times I can't get it out of my head. There is a possibility that they'll actually make it to the grand final but I won't get my hopes up. All depends how the performance on the main stage will be and how the votes go

It's a song contest where countries in Europe and some non European countries send an original song (no covers) and the viewers and a jury vote for their favourite but the viewers can not vote for their own country. It's been a yearly tradition since 1956 and some artists like Abba and Celine Dion became famous because of it.
