Aww thanks for using the footage of my Woma :) He's about 8 years old and is 6ft. He's a bit odd compared to other Womas because he doesn't have their famed feeding response. We don't have issues with him eating, it's just he doesn't strike at everything thinking it's food. He often prefers to squish his meals against the side of his viv instead. He was our first snake and we really lucked out because he's so calm and easy to handle.

Beautiful age for him too! So glad you have a great Woma! Many I see, people just do not put the time in to socialize them and end up having great snakes that feed well but that, sadly, are only display snakes.
@bodhikdub36623 жыл бұрын
That's actually totally normal! The wild ones in Australia (their native continent) actually have a cave and wait for prey to go by. Then, they will actually get a hold of their prey and slam it to the cave walls. It's super cool, but unfortunately, since it isn't as effective as constricting, they often have lots of scratches and bite marks in the wild from their food fighting back :(

I have a woma myself! It was actually my first snake I've ever owned! She is absolutely amazing, her feeding response though is not what you described at all. No hook needed for her, she is very gentle and patient with her food and will never lunge at it. She also knows when she is getting fed or handled. She shakes and gets very excited when she smells food but she lifts her head and comes out a little of her hide when she knows I wanna interact with her. She is fabulous!

YES!!!!! I'm so excited you talked about CRBs! Columbian Rainbows are so underrated and underappreciated. We have a baby that is about 6 months old and she is absolutely precious. I am totally in love. She loves to dig and climb, really active in her cage at night, and has always been such a sweet and gentle snake. We got her as basically a hatchling and she has never tried to bite; in the beginning she would try to bolt a lot and you would have to treadmill her like crazy to keep ahold of her! LOL But now she is super calm and inquisitive, and it seems like she really enjoys coming out of her enclosure and chilling with us. People dog them for being 'drab', but I think they are beautiful animals. People always compare them to Brazilians, and sure CRBs aren't as flashy, but I think if they were totally unrelated to the BRB and people considered them totally in their own right, everyone would talk about how gorgeous they are. LOL... Regardless, I think they are beautiful and ours has such a wonderful personality, I'm glad we got her instead of a BRB.

I mentioned on Discord, but imo the most underrated snake is the Russian rat snake. I can probably count on my fingers the number of people I've met who had even heard of them before talking to me, and I only know of two or three breeders off the top of my head, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Their care is nearly identical to a corn snake other than needing some more space (and hey, they're semi-arboreal, so bonus points, right?), their temperament is nearly identical to a corn snake, they have a super cool ontogenetic color change, and as adults they're black with markings ranging from white to crayola yellow. The babies look like gray rat snakes, but adults, especially the yellower ones, look like a hybrid between an eastern king snake and a mangrove snake, and it doesn't get much cooler than that in my book. They're very active, sometimes even during the day, love to climb, love to swim, super inquisitive and friendly, strong feeding response but not to the point you need to be worried about getting bit every time you open the cage, highly intelligent, easy to care for, forgiving of mistakes, have a small handful of morphs, get an impressive size but still manageable (for a colubrid, anyway), stunningly beautiful.... They're just the perfect snake and I'll sing their praises as long as it takes for them to catch on!

great pics although I think the sand boa is a runner-up. I was pretty surprised when I found out there pretty uncommon but sooooo easy to keep. they need about 30-40% humidity and because they are a small species you don't need a big encloser and it doesn't need to be tall at all because they don't climb. they don't need much water and or food so perfect for when you go away for a few weeks. they can be nippy when young but they seem to outgrow it. just with how easy and cheap the setup is and how little care is needed they in my opinion are some of the most underrated first snakes.
@DarkandDeath43 жыл бұрын
I've kept and bred woma pythons for 10 years now and I have to say they're probably one of the most intelligent and rewarding snakes I've ever worked with. AGGRESSIVE feeding response. Like holy shoot, please hook train them to save your arm. Extremely handleable once you get them out of the cage. They were my go-to ambassador animal when I had to introduce kids and new people to snakes. They're probably so underrated because while everyone raves about them, they're so hard to find. Easy to breed, but difficult to find a breeding pair in the U.S. The pet population is kinda bottlenecked now with restrictions from Australia, so no new captive bred bloodlines or animals are being added aside from the ones that are already producing here. You can definitely find them in Tinley though!

I brought her to an art festival (outside) and she fell asleep under my cardigan over my shoulders. She poked her head out once and then napped. I take her out in my car, to the reptile store, to get gas and water my new plants. She is just wonderful. She likes when I scritch her chin and is such an ambassador for people who don't know snakes. I love her.

Corn snakes are in no way underrated

@@ThunderStruck15 most people think they are too small, too simple or not enough of a challenge. Just a ‘beginner’ snake. I think they are so much more. I find her incredibly rewarding as a pet. That’s what I meant.

One thing you left out about Womas are they are super to handle! Mine had a great feeding response, but she also had an odd sense to know when I wasn't going to feed her as she never struck at me. She only ever bit me one time. I had been in the hospital for several days. As soon as I came back home, my mom went to hand her to me and Wam! she bit me right from my mom's hands. We always joked that she was upset at me for making her think I was leaving for good and bit out of worry. lol
