Serious explorers, people who live and work in dangerous places etc generally have this attitude towards silly pricks who decide to do it for a laugh, because it's not just them who might die, it's the production crew who are forced to film them, keep their car going, pick up after them, put up their tents once they're done pretending they're doing it themselves for the camera etc. People deciding to go on jaunts to the top of Everest or to the Pole for a laugh usually get people killed and it isn't always themselves, it's the people with actual experience that have to drag their useless arses along or rescue them when they get themselves stuck

But he actually means it, literally. He doesn't just mean "you guys are dumbasses", he means "you are totally untrained in Arctic travel, the methods of preserving your life is those hostile situations". Literally, they are ignorant on the subject. I don't think he even meant to be rude and negative about it, it was just a statement of the situation. And I am sure it had some relation so something that was already said, like he asked them "what do you know about arctic travel?" and they said "absolutely nothing", and he said "so you are essentially ignorant of the dangers you will be facing?" I don't hink it was just meant to be a funny joke for TV, although the editors knew people would take it that way.

Weird, I thought sled dogs were usually not accustomed to much affection and warmth, and they tend to be pretty dangerous. They aren't actually abused but they are treated more like pack animals and beasts of burden than pets. They don't get petted or cuddled, their reward is their food, their duty is obedience. I remember being kind of shocked when I read accounts of how the dogs are treated. It seemed a bit on the callous side, but not enough to actually be cruel. And they are half wild aside from the training for the sled.

I also wish they'd kept in either May's map bit with the fuel drop mention or them driving around looking for the fuel drop, because while I should have realized they wouldn't have had enough to make it from Resolute to the Pole without filling up, it also didn't really occur to me that they would have needed a fuel drop for it.
