I love Iron Eagle 1 2 and 3. I was too young to think about or even understand any of the ripoff stuff. It was another airplane movie i loved to watch Top Gun is my favorite movie of all time, without question.. yet Iron Eagle still has a special place in my heart. RIP Lewis "Chappy" Gossett Jr.

I saw Iron Eagle in the theater before I ever even heard of top gun and it is the better of the two IMHO.

Top Gun was less corny and less of a kids movie, and was more believable. Iron Eagle is still a legendary classic fighter pilot movie though! Despite its cringeworthy lines and the main character’s hazardous attitudes, it will remain one of my favorites.

Top Gun is more plausible, even if pilots state the flying sequences aren't realistic, but realism it that regard would be boring, as the late Tony Scott realised when filming. The aerial photography, interlaced with miniatures still hold up today. Both films had the same Aerial co-ordinator, the late Art Scholl, lron Eagle had the slightly larger budget, but the end results in Top Gun were superior imho!

@stewartwhite4695 outside of Louis Gossett. FOH. As for Production and authenticity Go Fahkurself and Be Somebody else yammering pretentious nonsense. Iron Eagle is Top Tier. Sidney J Furie ain't Tony Scott. Doug Masters playing music in the F16. GTFOH. It's as plausible as The Last Starfighter. Chappy Sinclair is the only redeeming quality of Iron Eagle.
