That signature tune, that fierce roar of the engines-- and that feeling that you wanted to be a fighter pilot. That's what made me LOVE the first Top Gun and this is shaping up to be a solid sequel-- personally still count it as one of Tom Cruise's best roles. I felt the feels when Goose's son showed up and I gave a sad smile, liking how he looked so much like his dad-- and the reference to Val Kilmer's Iceman was a powerful touch. I seriously hope it doesn't disappoint and my excitement has returned-- we've all waited over 30 years for the true redemption that Maverick deserves.

I am Japanese. Sorry for my poor English. I can't resist commenting here too. Top Gun Maverick is a part of my life. I've seen it 53 times at the cinema. (2024/05/17) Top Gun is also very popular in Japan. In Japan, a phenomenon known as "Chasing Top Gun" emerged and was loved for a long time. Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro in Tokyo has the largest IMAX in Japan. When we show a film there, the seats fill up quickly, even on weekdays. I have seen Maverick 10 times in IMAX at Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro. Among them, March 3, 2023 and January 11, 2024 were particularly moving and unforgettable memories. After the end credits rolled, applause erupted in the theater. In Japan, applause in movie theaters is an extremely rare phenomenon. That's how much Top Gun Maverick excited and moved so many people, and received such great support. Of course, I was one of those who was enthusiastic, moved, and applauded. Sorry for repeating myself. TOP GUN MAVERICK is a part of life. Don't think, just do!

I truly agreed, as a 80’s kid I didn’t see it till 1990 in Liverpool, England 🏴. I remember as a kid it blow our little minds, my brother wanted to be fighter pilot after then. Lol! Man us 80’s kids were spoiled by some of the best writing in movies. I’m glad today’s generation get to see what we did!

Top Gun is also, famously, a very gay movie, according to many critics, scholars, and fans. Granted, the movie’s hero does have a female love interest in the form of Kelly McGillis' Charlie (although she will not be returning for the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick).

@kindergrinder39202 жыл бұрын
Inflation, buddy. Wikipedia, and other sites where you look for info, show the money the movie makes at box office at the time it was released. (Not just for Top Gun, obviously, but for every movie). So, you have to take inflation into consideration, and if calculation are correct, 357 mil in 1986. is what 965 mil is in 2022. That doesn't mean Maverick is failure, not even close, as both movies made more money than it was invested into them.

I was overcome with the greatest nostalgia watching this film. Happy memories of watching and rewatching the original , then dropping one liners and quotes into conversations with friends. Singing the songs and even thinking that ex girlfriends had ‘lost that loving feeling’. When the music started on the opening scene the hairs on my arms stood on end. I had tears I couldn’t explain at moments in the film that really couldn’t be defined (or perhaps designed) as emotional - it was just familiarity… Singularly the greatest cinematic experience of my 40 yr old life. I do hope it gets beaten. I have a feeling it won’t.

It's absolutely a beautiful sequel, especially for the first 'Top gun' generation. This sequel is so great, not only in all the actions, but more about the emotional. All the first 'Top gun' characters are no longer young, as same as all first 'Top gun' generation audiences, we have been struggling all these years to try to make our lives meaningful, we may have gained something but certainly have lost a lot at the same time. One of best part of this movie is to bring back F14 Tomcat to audiences, this most beautiful fighter plane is one of the most key elements in the first 'Top gun', it is not 'Top gun' without it, l almost cried when l saw it flies again in the movie.
