@@knightmare5097 It doesn't matter if Aliens came out only 7 years after Ridley Scott's original movie, it's also a sequel to an incredible movie and in this case with James Cameron being an action film, a completely different approach to the original movie, but arguably one of the best sequels ever made. Not few people consider it equal or even better than Alien, myself included, but I'm suspicious to say that because Aliens is still my favorite movie ever. And talking about James Cameron, lets not forget about Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

The older I get the more I realize Iceman is the real hero of this film. Surviving 5 enemy MiGs while Mav disengaged to talk to his deceased RIO, won the stare down in orientation class, offered to help Maverick at the bar figure things out (Goose even tells Mav to his face that Ice is The Best!) Called out Maverick’s poor attitude after leaving Hollywood dry. Graduated at top the class as trophy winner. The sequel helps prove Iceman’s feats.

The accident that got goose, was a real fault with that plane. The canopy was designed with forward flight in mind. The mechanism caused a few accidents due to aircrafts flaming out and trying to eject from a spin. The did eventually resolve it. Some in cockpit stuff was real, however the real pilots were in the rear seats.

And at that that time, the pratt & witney engines in the F-14 where very sensitives in passing the wake of another jet and could flame-out the engines, it's at that time, because the movie show it, the Navy decided to investigate and discovered that was true, so they decided to change engines and decided to put general electric engines that were more reliable (witch even improved his air-to-air fighting capabilities!) and the pilots in the 90's didn't liked when they decided to change planes from the F-14 to the F-18, and in a sense with good retrofit it could become even superior to the F-18... But they decided to retire the F-14... T.T

When I first saw this, I thought Iceman would just be a generic jerk/bully character, but he's honestly a real voice of reason. He genuinely has a point when he points out how much of a problem Maverick's lone wolf attitude can be. I also like how they never make it clear which one is the better pilot, since if the situation had been reversed it easily could have been Iceman coming to Maverick's rescue.
@sariel8406
@sariel8406 2 жыл бұрын
The iceman in the first movie was never a jerk or bully. He has never done anything shitty like use a derogatory term or bullying tactic. He is just an overachiever, super competitive and a stickler to rules. While maverick as his name suggest - a breaker of rules. So inevitably clashes happened between these two.

All the flying and planes are real. The editor deserves a gold medal because all the flying was just incoherent random shots and the editor had to piece together all the footage to get the flying scenes. They said they were asked to supply b-roll and they said they literally didn’t have any because it took every piece of film to cut together what’s in the movie lol.

@@chazzerous Agreed. And I believe all the flying in Maverick was all practical, as well! The majority, anyway. I do know Tom Cruise was pretty adamant about using as little CGI as possible. @@chazzerous They used all real planes, but they reskinned with CGI. That way movements were always real, completely practical flying, and not imagined by an artist. Aside from the reskins for certain planes, they also used CGI to make the F-18's look like single seat models instead of the 2-seat models they actually were, removing the actual pilot and having the actor who was in the back seat look like they were the only one in the plane. There was definitely CGI in the film, but it was used in a way that makes it all feel real. There are even scenes that I have seen people claim are CGI, like the low flight over the desert, which were practical, performed by a Blue Angel. They went so far with the practical in the film, doing some truly amazing work, that it has many convinced they are seeing CGI because it is so hard to wrap your head around how you actually make it practical. Very impressive work.

Growing up in the 1980s like I did, you don't skip out on what this film meant to the culture. Months earlier, there was a film of similar content called Iron Eagle (loosely based on true events) that had spawned 3 sequels. But Top Gun would eventually outrun, outgross and overshadow that film. Cruise as an leading man on his A-game with a great supporting cast. Everybody wanted to be a fighter pilot after seeing this and the impact on recruitment was unbelievable. No.1 film of 1986, soundtrack goes platinum and the song "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin won an Oscar & Golden Globe for Best Original Song. The late, great Tony Scott (director) with Jerry Bruckheimer and the late Don Simpson (producers) as their first film together. Top Gun was a video-game franchise, 18 games in a row. The final game was Top Gun:Hard Lock on PS3 and it was so fun. Top Gun was in limited re-release for IMAX theatres only in 2013 and it was the first time I'd ever saw it. Top Gun:Maverick (2022) is an incredible sequel and you'll definitely love that one.

No matter how many times I've seen this movie (and I've seen it way too many times), I cry at the Goose death scene. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised Eric never saw Top Gun. I'm not condemning him for it, but he seems to be such a movie connoisseur and so up-to-date on all the big blockbuster popular movies, especially action, from at least the last few decades. I would also have figured since he said his dream was to be a fighter pilot, I would figure he would've seen this already multiple times. Oh well. No biggie, just thought it was interesting. Actually, also a bit surprised Aaron only saw this movie once as a kid. I would have figured Eric and Aaron would both have already had this movie on their favorites list. If not this movie, then the sequel will probably make it up there. I cannot help myself but watch this movie every time it is on tv. It is 1 of those movies like Rocky 4 that will always get me to stop channel surfing and watch it start to finish or finish the remainder of it. Their reactions to the sequel is gonna be epic! I can just picture some of the things Eric will say from excitement during that movie. I wonder if they saw Days of Thunder yet. If not, I think they'd love that movie too, which is basically Top Gun using cars. :)

I have watched over a dozen Reactions to this movie and I have never had tears from laughing so hard as I had with yours. For a "serious" movie, you were able to tag each and every hilarious part and mock it in the coolest way. (Until Goose dies, of course.) Thank you for such a wonderful Reaction. You guys are awesome!

Maverick had his full name on the plane because that aircraft was his previously, as that aircraft carrier was his regular duty station. Ice and Hollywood had just arrived on the carrier for that mission, so the air crews did not have time to paint the planes properly.

From what I've heard, Kenny Loggins saw the pool of other artists and groups brought in to work on the soundtrack so he went for "Danger Zone" because he thought that was his best shot to get on the project.

Goose was interpreted by Anthony Edwards, who was also kind of the protagonist for the first 8 seasons of ER, the best show ever made (literally most Emmy nominations, but then got surpassed by Game Of Thrones, but we all know how hard that show fell on its final steps). Everyone should go watch it really, far better than Grey's Anatomy, honestly that show butchered the prestige of medical dramas and everyone who has seen both agrees, now everyone thinks medical dramas are like soap operas and underwhelming, but ER, at least for the first 8 seasons, is like almost every episode is an amazing top tier movie, no joke. From 9 until its final one, 15, it became worse because Grey's started airing and it was stealing viewers so the network decided to be more like Grey's and duh the show became less good because that's what being more like Grey's is, having more comedy bits and just bland or obnoxious characters. At least the final season actually was a banger so there's a reward for sticking to it, and even those weaker seasons still have really great arcs and episodes, it's just that overall you feel it losing the magic of the first 8 seasons. You'll thank me later, everyone, go watch it! It will become your favorite show on Earth most surely.

There are several podcasts that have come out around the Maverick release that hosted the pilots who flew in the 1986 movie and they tell all the behind the scenes stories.

I last watched Top Gun at a drive in movie in North Weald Airfield in the UK with my wife. The sound was being sent to our radios and as the credits were rolling we were listening to Danger Zone as we were on our way to our accommodation. Nice.

I think Maverick is up there with Fury Road as far as the best sequels of all time. Weird that they both had such a gap, but I guess it makes sense as far as action movie capabilities go.

I'm not a Top Gun fan, or a Cruise fan, but I am good enough to know that you guys aren't giving enough props to 80s movie making. The plane shots in this film are legit. As far as I know, models weren't used. It was an expensive movie.

This movie is SO QUINTESSENTIAL 80s. So fun fact the Top Gun Anthem was composed by Harlod Faltermeyer, who also composed Axel F from Beverly Hills Cop

23:25 "I don't know how... but I've got a feeling they've taken each other's breath away." That was brilliant. 🤣❤ Even better because that technically was what happened. Tom Cruise forgot his line after she confesses to him. His reaction is genuine so he responded by kissing her which was kept in the movie.

That carrier landing simulator you're referring to was at the National Air and Space Museum. When I was in school we took a field trip down there three years in a row. I never was able to land the jet on the carrier. Kept failing. I don't recall anyone from my class being able to do it.
