Two types of Certs. 1 advance in your current job/company and 2. cert to get a job or change a job. So for second option AWS is best way to go. Also I would always go straight for CCNA not for Network+. Get AWS+VMWare+RHCSA and you're super employable.

I'm happy to say that getting the Network+ really pounded a networking foundation into me. Granted, that exam took me over 300 hours of studying as I used to find networking extremely confusing but now, I look forward to stepping up to a CCNA in the future.

DUDE! i'm watching your video whilst Taking the Juniper Cloud Associate Exam Challenge, im about half way through! DevNet Sounds so Daring, but i just made a deal with myself, given the amount of time and discipline i put into the JNCA Cloud and all the SDN inclusive of YANG,JSON involved. I may trust myself enough to tackle DevNet. I am CCNA R&S Qualified and want to do CCNP first this year of course. But i have definitely added this to my do list. FYI, i took the Azure Fundamentals exam and passed, it has quite a few aspects that are helping me in the JNCA-Cloud exam. Thanks for the Amazing content!

I did the same. I started with Security+. I jumped Net+ because I wanted a single cert to qualify me for government jobs, which require more. I just finished CCNA R&S last week. I also thought I failed, hitting a 6 router troubleshooting applet on question 52 with 5-6 minutes left in the test. I almost just got up and left. But I plowed through (use "sh run" and you can quickly cut through the answers) and passed 1st attempt. I want to get DevNet, but not sure about how much emphasis it sounded like Cisco is putting on Software Engineering. I'm not a coder. Ironically, I have a Software Engineering masters degree but I specifically did one that had removed programming.

I've just recently started studying in the hopes of a career change into IT. I've been studying for the A+ and Network+ certs. I have a fairly good grasp on the A+ topics but I'm pretty green with Networking stuff. My original plan was to study hard both topics through the Summer and begin certification testing in early Fall. After viewing this video though I'm kinda thinking about, perhaps, trying to swoop in and grab an MSCA before they retire them as Server 2012 and 2016 certs are available through June 30th, THEN continue in my A+ and Net+ studies for the Fall. I'm fairly fluent in Windows & have done a fair bit of studying of Server 2016 - it seems like some potential employers would still value the knowledge this cert implies, no? Will gaining an MCSA (and perhaps the additional exam to take it to MCSE) potentially help me in the job market or should I just go with my original plan and stick with only the A+/Net+ path (to start)? Thanks in advance for your help.

I would get the CCNA first over Network+ now. CCNA is much more broad now as opposed to being a bit too advanced like the old CCNA R&S exams. Still, I think Network+ should be taken, or at least be studied first, when you really have no idea what I.T. or Computer Networks really is.

Hello Data Knox. I have a question. I worked years ago in the IT. Right now after 10 years i want to go back working in the IT. Which certification would you recommend? I have little experience with Windows 2003 server. Little Cisco experience. But i want to work as an system administrator. mcsa, ccna? what is your advise?

Well the MCSA is dead, but that would have been a great first pick. You may want to shift into the new CCNA or even Network+ for now while Microsoft figures themselves out. But eventually you’ll want to learn Azure or AWS. AZ-900 is a great starting point for cloud

Watching this after the new CCNA has come out, I believe that the changes for the Windows cert path are far different than CISCO. CISCO was more about sloughing off old topics, such as RIP, and adding a cert, DEVNET, to compliment their SDN hardware offerings which have been out for sometime now. Whereas Windows took a flamethrower to their cert path. WIth enough pushback windows will come out with either a server cert tied to MS365 and/or Azure that covers everything you would do either on prem or in the cloud.

I hope you're right. I would love to see a return to Windows Server (and all the other tech that got the axe) in the Azure exams

I got my Net+ at 30, too. Don’t feel like it’s too late! But the key is to keep the momentum going after you get your Net+. Go straight for CCNA after that. That’s when I got my first big break - when I put “CCNA in progress” on my resume

What’s a good cert before getting the MCSA? To lay that foundation
@DataKnox5 жыл бұрын
Well, that depends on how new to I.T. and servers you are. One thing to point out is that the MCSA is 3 exams, but you DONT have to take them in order. So if you fundamentally understand what a server is and some basics, you may want to start with Identity with Windows Server first before tackling Installation, Storage, and Compute. If you're completely new to servers and networks, you may want to consider the A+, Server+, or Network+ exams first.
