I think this is Paul Newman's greatest role. He had a special connection to this film. It's a true story.

It was based on a fiction book by Elmore Leonard, followed the book closely. It may have been based on an historical event, but not sure. It definitely is a classic movie, a great Western.

One of the best films ever. And not just a "western", but a moral lesson.
@marioarguello6989Күн бұрын
What moral lesson did you learn?
@xmillion1704Күн бұрын
@@marioarguello6989 It is common for the stories told by mankind to be in the form of morality plays. Anytime a story portrays characters making good and/or bad choices with respect to how they treat their fellow man, morals are being communicated.
@marioarguello6989Күн бұрын
@@xmillion1704 So, what lesson did you learn?
@xmillion1704Күн бұрын
@@marioarguello6989 Just because a story may deal with moral issues, it does not follow, necessarily, that any given individual learned anything of which they had no previous knowledge. Did you learn anything? (That should be the first question asked in order to avoid making unwarranted assumptions.)

This revisionist western and The Outlaw Josey Wales have a lot in common: assembling a small group of people from widely disparate backgrounds to do battle against a common enemy, the sense of selfless duty, the importance of Doing The Right Thing, and presenting native Americans in realistic ways to include possessing humor and compassion. It aintainins a solid moral message throughout. Extremely well written and acted. The directing and dialog are superb.

What a Western that was. The casting was excellent and the story that Frank the Sheriff tells Jesse about his Life & job? Pretty much summed up what they all were looking too get away from. Other than Russell who was possible going too go back too San Carlos, & live out his life with the Apaches his adopted family. This film projected a lot of questions at people? About how & why we were treating each other the way we did. Hombre who was John Russell the white man. Was one who just wanted too be left alone too live his own Life, with little or no interference from any other's. OF course as he told Jesse. They chose too follow him because he could cut it. And they knew they couldn't. That's a very simple theory when you widdle it down too basic necessity. Thanks for providing this Classic Western Film.

I’m really enjoying this movie. It’s basically a character study, with a bunch of assorted people thrown together for the sake of their characters to play off of each other. It’s quite well done. Hombre, 1967.

@ some put mayo on peanut butter & jelly, too. Similarly…NOT A SANDWICH a western involves a knight errant resolving conflict for altruistic reasons. the “cross-genre” excuse is used for inept authors.
@xmillion1704Күн бұрын
@larrypahl5756 A western is simply a movie set in a particular time and/or place, usually with actors on horseback, and is capable of expressing diverse themes. Making patronizing, simplistic and errant assertions otherwise is pretentious bloviation. The dish which you describe would only be a sandwich if you had specified it as being served between two slices of bread.

It seems you’ve actually missed the point. Omitting the name of a movie, that is under copyright control, from the video title is the first step to avoid a copyright strike. Channels do that to make it possible for cheap skates like me to avoid having to pay to watch great movies.
