15:50 I remember when they would do a random TOTP2 moment and play an oldie, but most of all I remember that there would be a sudden time when the audience of the present would start whooping suddenly before the song had ended as if to say ‘that’s all you’re getting from that because we are in control and you aren’t’. They still do that on bbc R1&2, like when they play a bunch of classic songs but stop it just after the second chorus, as if hearing the whole thing isn’t necessary to enjoy it fully.

In 1991, when Stanley Appel became producer, he wanted to revamp the show by introducing a team of unknown presenters. They gained viewers to start with, but it fell to 6.5m by May of 1992. In 1996 the ratings went down even more when the show moved to Fridays opposite Corrie And finally following the revamp in late 2003, it fell to 3m, and the move to BBC2 in 2005 didn’t help either.

TOTPS died because the music in the charts was mediocre and dull for years and years. no-one was listening anymore.

@@kimgrant3879 it still exists in other countries, just not here. ITV brought it back, kind of, Studio Sessions and recorded in the O2, since they own the old BBC television centre they will probably record where it used to be too.
