26:00 - Toxins also make the body more acidic. I would guess that's the most common thing that ultimately disrupts breathing. I had heavy metal poisoning and that makes the body very acidic. I think that's why so many people practicing Buteyko have intense detox experiences. If you increase the levels of CO2 in the body then the body has to dump a bunch of toxins in order to not be overly acidic. If the CO2 levels stay too low, then the toxins just sit there - nothing forces them out. CO2 forces them out.

You can learn to break old breathing habits by using mouth taping. Depending on how long you sleep, you can have up to eight hours of subconsciously teaching the body to breath correctly every night. This will teach the mind and body that you want to breathe through the nose

The best book l read explaining why many modern people mouth breathe was „Nutrition and physical degeneration” by Weston Price. He was a dentist from USA, who traveled around the world to find out what conditions human’s health. He visited a number of tribes, living in „primitive” way, not having contact with modern diet eg. white flour, sugar, canned foods, jams and so on. He discovered that contact with above foods coused skull deformations - narroving of dental arches, crovding of teeth and narrowing of nasal passages, thus mouth breathing. All these degenerative proceses were coused by lack of nutrients in modern diet. Also if babies are bottle fed they don’t develope strong jaw muscles. Weston Price recommended traditional foods for preserving health. Book is worth reading. There is also Weston A Price fundation online - lots of materials and reading.

When you talk about breathing LESS using the Buteyko method, are you referring to the number of breaths you take per minute, or how much air you take in and blow out per breath?
Does anyone know a good book that contains many and the most important Buteyko exercises/principles? I'm interested from a healing/health point of view, not necessarily sports. Thank you!

26:00 I didn't get that. We breathe faster to negate the effects of acidity? But then fast breathing can also cause acidity?

Hyperventilation can cause respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis can lead to hyperventilation. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that. Thanks for pointing it out.
