I'm here since 2017 and unlike most other viewers of your channel I'm below 40 and just work for a company here with my "special foreign language" skill. There are always 2 sides of the coin. You can get robbed in Switzerland and you can make awesome friends in Tondo. Definitely not for everyone but I'm more than able to provide for everything me and the family needs. Philippines riches is really in the hearts of Filipinos. Life here is very slow moving, relaxed atmosphere, not competing or digging deeper , it means take your time and you will get there. MUST BE PATIENT to find your happiness.

I was surprised to see lots of armed guards in Manila. Otherwise I thought that Manila was very safe. I walked everywhere and had no problems. Love the people in the Philippines. Love the food. I love how friendly and helpful people are in the Philippines. Can’t wait to visit again soon. Philippines is definitely safer than Russia. I like how passionate you are about the Philippines and SE Asia in general. I was absolutely mesmerized by SE Asia after my first visit many years ago. I’m still mesmerized. I visit several countries in the region every year ( sometimes twice a year). Excellent video sir.

@@PaulWorldZoom my friend is there right now. Says that he is afraid to go outside of his apartment. Right now it is probably more dangerous than before. Need to really watch what you say in public about the “ special operation” in Ukraine. Should be really careful and not to run into another military mobilization drive. It is not uncommon for the police to grab people on the streets and force them into the military service. Anyway, my friend can’t wait to leave Russia.

According to a number of Filipinas here in LA there are a number of nursing schools in the Philippines that teach their entire 4 year program in English. This means their graduates can go to English speaking countries and practice nursing usually without any need to take an English language assessment test. Staring wage in LA for a nurse with a 4 year BSN degree with her RN is $40/hour with lots of overtime available. That's a good wage even for a high priced city like LA.

I enjoyed your video. My wife is from Silay City. We moved here in 2023 after I retired. My biggest mistake is that I didn't learn their language before I came. It is very hard for me to have a conversation with anyone because a lot don't speak English. Now I am 65, and she gets mad with me because I didn't take time to learn the languages. I came from Las Vegas, where I had a lot of friends from the Philippines who spoke good English. Just because English is taught in the school as a second language doesn't mean everyone speaks it here.

Thank you for this video. The numbers for wages were very sad. Brain drain is a problem in many countries. My parents left the Philippines in the 1970's. And now ironically I want to retire there (some would say that would lower the IQ of both countries 🙃) I really appreciate all the info in your videos! Even when you're talking about the problems there, you always make me impatient to go there now. I am working on another video for my channel and plan to link your channel there.

It was said by that young Pinoy kid on his vlog Savvy Expat (He's around 18-25 ears old) from Chicago now in Manilla with his family, and they've got a big house in the province, and his gramps was a judge in Phils during WW2. I'm going to put the wage issues in prospective. My wife is from the Philippines, and we were on a vacation trip to copper country in the U.P of Michigan USA and I asked her what the wage was in Philippines a month. She stated around $120 for laborer per month. I showed her a pay scale of the miners in 1917 made 120.00 a month in 1917. So, the same 1 percent of the wealthy imported labor to work in the USA for that pay scale as labor cost. In 2019 the same 1 percent exports the jobs to cheap worker for the same wage 100 years later. So, if you adjusted for inflation the wage in Asia should be 1.773.34 US Dollars a month or around 11 dollars an hour for a 40-hour work week. I hope this sheds some light on the pay gap.

Despite the national "minimum wages" many employers do not pay that. add that many service jobs are a 6 month contract. After 6 months filipinas unemployed, looking again. Age and sex discrimination in employment is unacceptable in many countries. After 23 years here. some things have changed emmensley, while others have not budged an inch

Hey Dr. Zoom, Thought I’d give you some food for thought as far as topics. I am curious about how the dynamics are in regards to living apart from your girlfriend. How did y’all meet? Did y’all live together in Dubai? What made you decide to move away from her? How is it working for you guys? How long do you think you’ll live apart? How often do y’all see each other?Does her son live with her? Ect ect. These are a few questions I wonder about. The other question I had and I’m sure I can/will research it. Can a foreigner moving there bring his/her firearms? If so could they carry them or would it be restricted to home security?

Hey Tony, Just got back from the Philippines. I spent 2.5 weeks there and I feel like the biggest mistake I made was traveling too much. I was trying to jamb in too many places at different locations. For example, I went to Puerto Princesa, then two days later I had to be in el nido, then two days later I had to be in Coron. I had great intentions but I only got to see each place basically for one day then one day of traveling to the next place. In retrospect, I wish I would have spent week in one place so I could really relax and enjoy the area. I did not visit Cebu, but I would like to have just because you can hike the water falls and you are close to the ocean, the city, and the jungle. As for how much money should you bring? That is a personal choice that you kinda need to determine what activities, food and entertainment you will be doing. It is a cash oriented country, and they don’t take dollars ( assuming you’re American). I found that at the airport was the most convenient way to exchange dollars for pesos. The exchange rate was decent and it was fairly simple. Personally, I exchanged $800 USD for two of us traveling for over two weeks. All of my Airbnbs were prepaid as was my domestic airline tickets. I think you have to kinda figure out that on your own though. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and stay safe, Jim

I usually brought in 1K cash. Exchange some before you fly at any big bank in the US, usually will be able to get you foreign currency. And always got good exchange rates inside the malls

While it allows you to see and do more, it does take time away from enjoying the moment because you're on a rigid schedule and always hurrying to the next thing. I dont plan on island hopping but I'll mostly be in Panglao/Bohol and might make an excursion to iloilo or Manila. Thanks for the advice. 👍

Have read some comments. Watched whole video. When you said weather is a pro, that depends on which island. The Philippines are known to have great weather. But, and I despise that word, there are a few things with the weather in what I call the Paradise Islands. First is the Philippines are in the way of many typhoons a year. Something None can do a thing about. Other natural occurrences also happen. Not being too negative here just a guy in snowy winter Midwest looking for the sunshine n someone to share it, and the rain with. Keep up the good work 😊

Cons 1. Manila Airport 2. Bureaucracy and forms 3. Inefficient process ( at boracay ferry you have to buy 3 tickets which are an enviromental fee, a ferry fee and one other I cant think of, you literally line up in 3 queues when it could all be on the one ticket. 4. Slow service and queues.

I think their mentality is to have more employed people instead of just one stop with one employee. It’s inconvenient for expats and tourist but its their country and nothing we can do about it. Even the department stores in the malls have a lot of sales people and a few are just standing there.

I am one that is considering moving to the Philippines permanently, will be there again for a month this weekend. Being from the UK rather than the USA, the safety is a slight concern as the UK is 34th safest country in the world compared to 125th of the Philippines and 129th of the USA. The biggest concern though is the health costs ... I will be 60 this year and once 60 even prescriptions are totally free. Never had to look for health insurance here in the UK as everything is free paid by you NI contributions ... which for me was around £160 a month for the NHS.

Paul I live in Kansas and the thought of living on 1500 here would put you in the worst parts of the city, and that would be a struggle. Utilities I'm single I keep the heat fairly low and even being on a level pay my gas bill averages around 180, my electric is 140, and water and trash is 95. And I'm with you I can't see the crime being the worst in the world. Think maybe they might be totally things like your car being vandelized or broken into, or small unviolent crimes. I just can't see it being in comparison to the violent crimes here in the states. Great video as always, thank you

Unless a local has lived outside the Phils, especially in the US, they have no idea what real crime is. Haven't heard of a school or workplace mass shooting, random muggings, hate crimes, or home invasion here...just saying....Again, unless they have lived outside the Phils, like in the US, they have no real idea of how to compare what is here compared to what life could be. As a foreigner IMHO, my cons are what we gave up moving here, convienence, constant lines waiting, need for unlimited patience and the driving mind set, hearing "out of stock" or "naot available" gets old. The pros ? The people, attitudes, the beauty, the lifes stress level deminished by 80%. I always wondered what could happen if you took the best of here and the best of the west and mixed em' together......

I don’t like divorce / High divorce rates. That said , with or without divorce many families break up there. That makes life very difficult for single moms. They are stuck in a position where it’s illegal to find another relationship. Adulterous 😮 oh no jail time…. People are wired to need partnerships in life and that is prohibited? Something crazy to us is the law there putting women that are abandoned rather than divorced in a difficult position. What of their husbands that left them? They have children by other GF and are they threatened with jail time. I think not, it’s more a one sided system.

Some of my concerns which you didn't mention: (1) insect populations, particularly mosquitoes; (2) air pollution; (3) access to organically grown fruits and vegetables. The biggest draw for Western men of a certain age is, without a doubt, the ability for romance with someone you're intensely attracted to and who will appreciate you. This is almost unheard of in the West, which is itself a remarkable fact of life for Western culture. Anyway, I watch all your videos, ever since the delightful Filipina Pea introduced you to her multitudinous audience. Keep up the good work.

The biggest con is if war breaks out between China and Taiwan and new military base operations by the U.S. in the Philippines. Though this is limited, the proximity to Taiwan and if utilized, retaliatory measures by China at the Philippines could get disastrous.

It is all about the economics-extended family-no divorce-my ex from Lapu Lapu and my daughters will never move here as you know RN’s start at 100K USD annually and most Flipinas in the 🇺🇸 are nurses or caregivers (average $23 per hour here) -at 62 I am invisible in the 🇺🇸 so to find an attractive lady you usually need to go to 🇵🇭or 🇹🇭 !

Freedom of speech it all depends what you call freedom, example: Why are journalists killed in the Philippines? The journalists were killed for a variety of reasons, including reprisals for reporting on organized crime, armed conflict or the rise of extremism and covering sensitive subjects such as corruption, environmental crimes, abuse of power and protests. How many journalist are killed in the Philippines? Based on the data by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), 197 media workers have been killed since 1986, with all deaths included were in relation to their job. Since 1986 means Post Marcos Era.

The one's who say the Philippines is not a safe country are probably those who've never travelled outside there front door. The ability of old, even unattractive or fat old men to get a young attractive Filipina who, in most cases, are so desperately poor that they are willing to overlook all the man's physical unattractiveness so long as he can give her a hope out of her horrible economic situation.
