In this video I share my tips on how to regain back the intensity of the smell of our favorite perfumes once we seem to have stopped sensing them as strongly on ourselves as we did in the past. I analyze some of the potential reasons why we become anosmic to our favorite perfumes that we love to wear a lot and I also talk about how important it is to wear perfumes for one's self as they are keys that unlock parts of ourselves and not to wear them for others. I hope you enjoy this video.

Sort of unrelated but I used your trick of putting my very faint-smelling Elizabeth Arden Green Tea perfume in the 🌞 on the window sill, and after just a couple of days I swear that tea scent has developed quite a bit. Thanks for your wisdom.

Glad it worked for Green tea but it does not work for all perfumes! Some perfumes deflate smell-wise in the sun so be careful.

Love this video Dacob❤ Around Y2K,when i was sick and tired of people telling me i smelled like a grandma, i started to adjust myself to their taste and started to wear only the safe mass appealing perfumes. I really hated myself for being that superficial. Since i didnt really like those perfumes, i only sprayed once or twice and that was more than enough. When i found your channel i started to be ME again and i (over)spray perfumes i actually love, i notice i dont smell them anymore after 15/20 min or so. Its like i'm sensitive to something i think is 'meh' but get noseblind to something i love....so weird!

That can happen too. When we overspray a perfume on our skin, we go into an overdose of it and out body just shuts down the active recognition of the smell of it since its too much and could affect our senses from doing their job and keeping us alert and safe in the world. So if we overspray a perfume and OD on it that day, our body might shut down our capability to acutely sense smells in that moment. In other words its like when a song is recorded too loud on the CD then you need to re adjust your CD player audio to a lower audio setting all together, otherwise the song is too loud. So our sense of smell adjusts to the over spraying of a perfume by toning down the volume or the ability for us to more acutely sense the smell in that moment. Thats just my theory though since I am not a doctor by any means. 💖

I admit, I am a bit of fragranista! I love perfumes and wish to smell them all, and have made a hobby out of doing so with samples…. Even so, there are only about 10 that I will never stray away from, but unfortunately 7 out of the 10 I am loyal to are now discontinued. I rotate them regularly, because of rarity and have to use them sparingly now. The ones that are still mainstream I do admit to spraying with abandon! LOL. And yes, I have found myself anosmic at times. So you are absolutely right about giving them a break. Also Dacob, I felt like you were speaking directly to my soul. You have a way of doing that, btw. I live remotely in a beautiful cabin in the woods and also work from home. There is no one here but me. I only venture out when I need something or when business errands can’t be avoided. So yes, my fragrances and the wearing and enjoying of them have always been just for ME! I spray in the morning and again at night before bed. I will also throughout the day just sniff some of my bottles for nostalgia’s sake or just for the pleasure of it. I really love perfumes that much! I believe the Egyptian god Nefertem has anointed people like us with a special love for perfume and has connected you and all your fellow fragrance loving viewers through your channel. This in itself is magic! Thank you. 🪷 🥰

It has taken me a while, but with your videos and my own senses as a guide,, I now have several (a couple only for winter and a couple only for summer). I try not to wear one fragrance for more than a couple of days because I love them so much (although at bed it is No. 5 L'eau or Vol de Nuit only). Today, I had a dental procedure and chose one that was calming to me and I did notice the difference. Thanks!

I just rotate to a different fragrance, I am so used to the scent I stop smelling it, but everyone else can, they say with candles just lite it for 20 minutes you have maximized the scent payoff at 20 minute it will lingers. Sort of like how your own body scent you might not be able to explain the scent but your partner can. If you pay attention body scents tell you all kind of stuff.

I really do treat my body like a fairground! Hedonism is fun 😁 I enjoy your content. It's more thoughtful than the overwhelming majority of re-hashed fraghead schlock. I entirely agree with you in your view that perfumes should be for the person wearing it. This obsession with "getting compliments" is laughable - people are so self centred that they just don't do it these days, they barely even notice fragrances. I am the only person I personally know who will semi regularly give compliments to others if they are wearing something I find unique or appealing (and also because I enjoy giving authentic compliments to people). To wit - people who are into watches have know for years, if not decades that the timepieces they wear is for their own enjoyment - 99% of people don't even notice watches anymore, or they wear those smart watch monstrosities.

I completely have always purchased for myself. I had a Beautiful colleague ask me to choose a scent for her; I told her to start on a scent journey and when her eyes almost roll so far back in joy; then that’s the one. I have never become anosmic but twice perfumes I absolutely love have suddenly smelled differently. Not a new bottle, change of season, just one day I lose the smell I love. Is that just me? Is that something similar to becoming anosmic? I was wearing Chanel’s Jersey all the time. I was just addicted to it. Then suddenly all I smelled play doh. Another was Kate Walsh’s Boyfriend. Loved the myrhh in it, like church on Christmas Eve. Then it smelled so antiseptic. I have put them both away. I’ll try again next fall. I hope I can smell the beauty again. I loved what you said about the intimacy possible with a scent. I have perfumes I wear when I want to indulge in my introversion and privacy. Others that even though not loud (never loud is my preference) make me feel more confident, armored with a veil of fragrance. Others just make me happy, like Chance Eau Tendre EDP. Would love to hear if other people stop smelling their fragrance the same way and if the smell you love comes back if you take a break.

Yesterday i wore Le Lion to work (3 sprays) and i initially sprayed it at 6 am. Around 10:30 AM a Co-worker came by and said "what are you wearing, you smell so good. I MEAN REALLY REALLY GOOD". This led to like a 30 minute talk about me explaining the history of perfumes and about Shalimar and why it's called Le Lion. She had me send her an airdrop of the bottle because she WANTS IT NOW. I told her how much it costs and she didn't care, she wants it. I digress, but long story short i couldn't really smell Le Lion around 10:30 and she was standing a good 2 feet from me when she smelled me. So yes, sometimes we just do get anosmic to the fragrance, and to think i was going to re-spray during lunch(noon) 😅 i would of filled the whole building 😂

In May 2021 I fell madly in love with juliette has a gun “not a perfume superdose”. I bought a 100ml bottle and I almost used 50ml in just 3 months. I used to wear it very often and also oversprayed it, then at some point I stopped smelling it. I could not smell anything at all and I was so sad. I had to take a break and use other perfumes. And even today I can’t smell it properly yet.

Many perfumes are very fleeting nowadays but we are also living in more flat times... no smoking smells and odors in the air all around us and less and less character too so perfume houses reflect the times as well in many ways.
