Wow!!!! I love this idea so much--one of the best you've had!!! As you were talking, (I was walking listening to you) i saw the announcement on the Chanel website: "Introducing....the Chanel Perfume Counter. A new gift for our clients as we share our love and our pride of Chanel's exquisitely long history of perfumes. Come experience this unique opportunity to learn and appreciate more of what you love." Existing beauty boutiques could be split in two. Half is the Chanel Perfume Counter, and the other half is Chanel Beauty (makeup etc). SA's are trained specifically for the CPC and will not have anything to do with the makeup. And vice versa. "we'll help you find your best friends in perfume!"

I detest ordering from Chanel. It feels insulting to be spending so much money only to receive a 1ml cream sample and a 1.5 ml sample of Bleu de Chanel. I ordered a couple of Dior Privée in the last months and I've received miniatures 7.5 of their Privée range, 5ml mini of serum/creams that retails for 1000$, towels, makeup bags etc. I feel valued as a Dior customer while I feel disrespected at Chanel.

I hadn't given a lot of thought to what Chanel gives you as a gift when making a purchase other than noting that the perfume samples were not usually fragrances that would interest me. And, there weren't many of them. When I visited one of Nicolai's boutiques in Paris, and purchased a few 30ml bottles, they gifted me their boxed sample set. A niche perfumery in the states that I occasionally visit is very generous with samples and, after my last purchase, has also gifted a sample set, as well as some other samples. I spent the equivalent of a les exclusif. When I purchase retail, it's nice to know that I'm appreciated as a customer.

You really have a very valid point! The fragrances should have their own boutiques! Due to them cutting off their nose to spite their face! It’s so common sense when you think about I! They need to hire you as a consultant!! Dior you’re sooo right! They’re so giving! It’s just a different vibe! Sadly Bruno could learn a few things from Dior! It’s funny you said Chanel doesn’t like to see their freebies out there …and just the other day I saw the Cométe charm with a sample for only $25 on Mercari!! Umm I’m thinking about going back it was a decent price!! 🏃‍♀️

Hello Dacob! First time commenting here. I think it’s really refreshing to have a content creator discuss their experience and thoughts about their favourite brand, and at length! Clearly you have spent much time(and money) with Chanel and naturally we have comments. Context: I work as a sales associate of a skincare brand and the way our brand works is a little similar to Chanel; we don’t believe in gift with purchases, but we still offer our samples and aren’t as stingy as Chanel 😂. We hope our samples are put to good use and also hope to reduce unnecessary waste at the same time. Fragrance is an important part of our business, and our perfumes have also gotten more attention in recent times. As associates, we love to spend time with customers to discuss perfumes, but more often than not we find that the customers don’t want to spend time in store or listen to us, for some reason. A lot of customers want to purchase out of FOMO; or they just simply want to experience the brand out of curiosity. Our fragrances have got great stories and concepts, but when customers come in with closed minds, it gets discouraging very quickly. So I can understand when associates are selective on what they spend time on.

Thank you for your lovely comment gnparticle. I just want to make clear though that my commentary was specifically about Chanel perfumes and not other brands. I have a lot of experience with other brands as well and would recommend different approaches to sales and shops according to the individual brands. In other words, what I would recommend for Chanel is not necessarily what I would recommend for and to other brands. Each brand has its own specific needs, products, clients, quality as well as its own time it has been on the market. Many different factors which factor into different strategies I would implement for said brands and their shops and sales. 💖

In the Dior beauty boutique there is a dedicated space for the fragrance section. The SA sits with you and goes through the fragrances of each perfume you’re interested in and also makes suggestions. I bought myself Gris Dior. They had limited edition packaging and beautiful boxes specially for Mother’s Day. They gave me 6 samples from the Privee collection as well as a 15ml sample. I also got a beauty bag and a large pouch, they are gorgeous and not cheap looking. If you want they will also engrave the bottle for you. The next Dior Privee I get will be Cachemire. The Chanel boutique had nothing for Mother’s Day. I’ve noticed the SA’s at Dior have better training and product knowledge than Chanel. There have been many times when I felt I knew the beauty products better than the Chanel SA.

I totally agree with you with regards to the sales associates' lack of knowledge about perfumes - and not only in Chanel Beauty boutiques btw! It is so rare that buying a perfume is linked to a special experience. In a way, the experience (for me) comes from watching reviews like yours, preferably with the perfume sample or bottle in front of me, so that I can 'smell along'. This has inspired me recently to buy the No 5 extrait to layer it with Comète!

Dacob, I think it really depends on the Sales Associate. I have met a few (one great, and many not so great!), and I have my favorite. Let's just say she doesn't work at the Chanel boutiques. She has worked for decades at a department store, represents the Chanel brand very well, and couldn't be more generous with samples. I have spent much at one Chanel boutique and I had to BEG for samples. Are you kidding me? One sample they gave me had the card of the sample with a missing sample. I was so pissed! This is when I bought the Gardenia oil, not cheap! At least give me a sample, lol!

The problem is that chanel upped their prices way too fast too soon for people not to notice. If they had done it more gradually like Hermes did then people wouldn’t have noticed as much. Therefore, the majority of customers don’t think Chanel’s current prices are worth it unless if they have that kind of money to throw at chanel. Regarding their fragrances I think you answered your question here 36:43. I think the problem is that chanel knows the money is in the sheeple who worship Instagram and influencers don’t want to seem old fashioned by advertising an old fragrance. Therefore, Chanel would rather cut corners by discontinuing their fragrances. It’s not like an influencer would showcase an Les exclusif extrait to their viewers. It’s all about fast fashion now. Most customers nowadays just want to buy what’s new from Chanel to show off that they can afford new just released items from Chanel. It’s the world we live in atm

Dacob, yes I had the same experience around 12 years ago when I went to the Hollywood Chanel boutique to get No.22. The SA's were frantically selling eyeshadow palettes and lipstick. They were almost annoyed with my Les Exclusifs purchase. For me the price even back then was crazy. A year or two later I visited the Houston boutique. The pace in that store was better. SA's were more patient, not so frenetic. However, I did notice customers were very entitled and rude at the Houston store. OMG, I also struggle with Portrait of a Lady. It's like the mariachi trumpet in a Mexican restaurant. But the cocktail sounds great. Definitely I would go to the perfume cocktail bar, and pay for an amazing concoction. Granted the Extraits are located in the left hand corner of the shop; they are very visible. The staff were very knowledgeable of all the exclusifs. Including the history of each. Maybe I am wrong. Our Dacob to Chanel would be what John Galliano was to Dior...- a visionary whose creations transcend mere objects to art. His (JG) imaginative designs, theatrical runway presentations, and unbridled creativity have consistently pushed the boundaries of fashion, inspiring generations of designers and captivating the imaginations of fashion enthusiasts worldwide. Dacob's ability to blend historical references with his creativity, but narratives weaving together culture, history, and fantasy is pure magic. I hope that it is not a bad comparison considering all the controversy surrounding Jg , Dear Dacob. I appreciate and love the artsy side too much to be bothered with controversy. Sending love, XOXO Anna 🥰 I've been to Chanel's "Perfume Materclass" where cocktails were being served. They left something to be desired. Take, for instance, the renamed "Comete". While its name might suggest celestial delight, the reality was a sickly-sweet concoction that failed to tantalize any senses beyond a boredom. Did not purchase Comete. Will try again, and again and again....never the drink.

You see, it already begins with these clear distinctions between the different collections and the Chanel atelier store apparently did not do a good presentation job if the clients are mixing up the collections. I’d like to see the Les Eaux lines in smaller bottles so you can carry them with you to freshen up with these lovely short lasting delights. If I spritz Paris-Paris at the start of the day, I would love to have something for a middday refresh in a petite spray bottle you can carry in your bag. Even some of the eau de parfums could benefit from smaller carry in a bag bottles for that purpose. I am not into the ones like CoCo Mademoiselle for myself, but this type of fragrance has notes that last longer than many of the types I like that can benefit from the option of smaller spray bottles for carrying with you during the day. By the way, am I the only one who finds Chanel No. 5 in the EDT formula lasts longer than in the EDP? May just be my chemistry, but I was surprised by this.

I always laugh when Dacob states he has been doing something for decades. It is not that I don’t believe him, because I trust him. However, I always think “wow, I am either so old that a middle aged man looks like a kid, or those Chanel skin care products are unnaturally good!” I just make jokes to myself because I AM that old! 😂 BTW Dacob, I can buy the vampire thing almost. With your beautiful skin and hair I do think of Gary Oldman as Dracula. I may not remember well, but to my mind he had looked young and beautiful after a good blood feeding! I mean that as a compliment but, like perfume, my take on an attractive appearance may make another person go “ick, you think I look like that?” It was truly meant as a compliment!

I totally agree with you Dacob. I would be delighted if Chanel had standalone perfume boutiques were the sales associates would be versed in perfume history and would like what they sell. Where all their perfume range would be displayed. I’m pretty sure there would be no need to discontinue at such a fast pace, and they would bring back versions and soaps and creams, because people would be interested to buy them if they knew it exist. Slow sale and a moment of grace would be the time passed in these boutiques. Chanel, listen to the customers who genuinely love your brand, not to those who want, inelegantly, to « bring home the bacon ». Love you, Dacob 🌸🩶

Yep! First they hide them in a drawer then they discontinue. Last year I asked to see a damier azur speedy 25 at LV and it was hidden away in a drawer. I passed, recently looked to buy again…discontinued.
