Great video and amazing car. 3.70 - 2.60 = 1.1s 11.45 - 1.1s = 10.35s Sadly, that's not how it works when it comes to 1/4 mile drag racing. Also remember that if the speed/time tracker in the car is not GPS based, it is measuring wheel speed, which includes loss of tire traction, making it faster/quicker than it is. .

If you plot his numbers vs. Amelia's....his logic is actually pretty accurate. But he's assuming a perfect launch. So, in an approximate sense, his numbers are very plausible. As far as 1/2 mile Vmax...I doubt there is very little loss of traction. But the PDR has been wildly variable vs. Dragy or other Vbox data...but it has also been accurate at times. Just not a super reliable source.
@tescoshortage

Those times are likely on a specially prepared track surface. You could hear the car struggling for rear grip on acceleration throughout first gear as the TCS intervened. But still, sub-4 seconds to 60 and 11.4 in the 1/4mi with a completely stock car on some airfield in the middle of nowhere is quite impressive!

I really like the Z06 and would love to own one. I'm holding out hope that I may possibly be able to get once sometime next year. However, these are my takeaways. I've been calling it out over the underwhelming torque figures and this race against the GT500 confirmed my suspicions. The Z06 will NOT be a straight line monster. While one may argue that it never intended to be, I argue that it really should have all the boxes checked. You can't give away that much straight line performance and expect to be taken seriously. While the Porsche GT3 is similar to the Z06 in some respect it is extremely fast in a straight line. We're talking real world and not spec sheet brochure sales copy. Even in those cold conditions a GT3 would not have gotten walked that badly. I do think the Z06 will excel around small to mid-size race tracks which is why the presser took place at Pittsburgh International instead of Road America or VIR. Taking in consideration its lack of grunt and seeing how badly it got walked by that Mustang, I seriously doubt this is a sub 7 minute Nurburgring car. I predict that It may end up between 7:10-7:29 at the ring. Excluding the GT3 most of the cars killing it at the Ring are forced induction. Also, the gearing seems off with the Z06 especially in the higher gears. Race Teams will probably be playing around with that final drive gearing. Perhaps GM did this for emissions? I would have preferred for it to be forced induction similar to the C7 Z06. In that case I think it would have been a world beater right out the gate. GM benchmarked a 10 year old Ferrari 458 Italia and my gut feels as if it is too little too late. Still a hell of a car and I would love to have one in "Lipstick Red" or maybe "Panty-dropper Orange" just for the attention and the 'flavor of the week'. Even after the last 6 years, I still think the track car to have is the ZL1-1LE. Spend a weekend stripping down a ZL1 to bring the weight down to 3400lbs and add a cam plus Ethanol and there's pretty much nothing beating you on any given track day. Such a shame that GM never put the LT5 (ZR1) in the Alpha Chassis Camaro, but we know why this was done. With 100 less horsepower it is the only car right now keeping that GT500 honest on a closed circuit short of spending $200k. I just can't imagine spending $180k to get walked by a GT500, but my God is that Z06 beautiful. I call it the car of mixed emotions.

@Turbo329 Жыл бұрын
@@jackd232 GT500 is just waking up at 130+mph. From there on it’s killing the Z06. Having the engine over the rear wheels makes the C8 great at launching. That’s inherent design and outside of that it really isn’t impressive. Throw some sandbags in the GT500 trunk to get weight over the wheels and it’s possibly not even close.
@jackd232
@jackd232 Жыл бұрын
@@Turbo329 you talking like the GT500 is like a Civic Type R, that shit is not cheap at all, with mark ups now it's more expensive than a C8. GT500 is a Camaro ZL1-1LE rival but way more expensive and less capable on track.
@Turbo329
@Turbo329 Жыл бұрын
@@jackd232 I’ve had the chance to play with a couple of GT500s on track this year and they are quite capable in spite of their heft. You can get non track pack versions for under $100k now and the full monty for around $125k. You’re still saving a ton of money over the Z06. If I could get a spot for the Z06 I would definitely buy it. However, it’s definitely not the ‘World on Notice’ car that GM proclaimed it to be. A twin Turbo C8 would have most likely fit that bill.
@jackd232
@jackd232 Жыл бұрын
@@Turbo329 I bet it's a monster on track. To your point money worth, zL1-1le is way way cheaper, and faster than GT500 on track. C8 is in the super car category, I don't think they really compares. But I'd rather get a Kawasaki H2 Carbon and Mod and tune it for under 75k to go to the next adrenaline level. These modern machines are all to capable and I've been in a modded R8 like that Lambo that completely took the car adrenaline experience to the top level. Crazy stuff right here.

There’s a video of the car running with a 800 huracan that was supercharged. Which would beat a Z06 C8. Off the line yes the C8 wins but man the ZR1 pulls like a missile once you get it to hook and take off. And funny enough it weighs less than this car. If i remember correctly. The GT500 ran 160 mph which was reflected on the timing signs that I don't recall being shown during these current runs. You never warmed the GT500 P2 tires, ran with your window down and had terrible digs in the GT500 spinning for a minimum of 60 '.These are not drag races. It's a 1/2 mile speed event. Mentioning the GT500 left early means nothing. The Z06 is a nice car with an expensive price. But time will tell how well it performs on the track,

Fun to watch…thanks for sharing. Wonder how variables such as tire pressure and ambient temp would effect your trap speeds in the 1/2. Cold air is great for power but not for traction as we saw. However in the 1/2 mile I’d think the launch isn’t as critical as in say a 1/8 or 1/4 event

Wow so interesting to see. Thought you would want more miles on it before doing speed runs. In F1 racing they have heated covers, perhaps you could get some for the rears and that would make the difference?

Interesting thought! I've seen tire heaters at the racetrack before... they seem to do the job great!!

You need to reach out to Emilia Hartford and get her launch settings. I noticed that in spite of the wheel spin, you're bogging big time at each launch. She figured out settings that made it launch like a rocket.

Glad to see you having fun on your drive home with the Z06 and stopping to be the first to do these things and find out what it could do. To bad it was not warm enough out to see what it really could do. Can't wait to see what else you come up with. Call it baseline results. Enjoy your journey and stay safe. Thanks

Sorry world. These new Vette''s are a total let down. The fan boys will disagree but in comparison to every other car in that price range; it gets spanked. Chevy has been a let down for 25+ years. This car needed boost....NA is LAME. Good vid though.

Guys, #1 Just drive the car around a few miles to warm up the tires. #2 Pilots are NOT the stickiest, I've tried them all, Pilots are the most expensive, good rich, Good year, Kumho, General, Nankang, Nitto. Believe it or not, the stickiest is General's , them Kumho Ecsta. #3 The automatic shifts of this car are sloooow. Not trying to hate - just being factual.

There should be line lock on that car for you to easily do a standing burnout. If it’s like the C7 and 6th gen Camaros it’s in the same place in the gauge cluster menu as launch control.

Even if it had a line lock I bet with all that weight over the rear tires it would just plow the front end. You would never get enough wheel speed to fry the tires and in turn the car would push through the brakes.

@@yessuhyessuh2100 If paid close attention to the video you would have noticed that after he let the paddles go the car barely hazed he tires and moved forward. There is no way line lock would have helped the situation. Furthermore the GM engineers stated they had tried a line lock and it failed, the car just plowed the front end.

Think the drag limitation is Cap because the GT500 two models ago did 196 MPH with 662hp 265 tire's all around but with less horsepower. And what about all the other high horsepower cars 10-20 years ago they made it past 200 mph like the Porsche Carrera GT V10 5.7l 605hp did, the Ford GT with 550 horsepower Ferrari Enzo with 660hp 485tq After saying all of that I would say it's more of a electronically limited politic type of thing to time stretch it sort of speak.the 5,000 lb Bentley GT 2 door was able to do 198 mph with less horsepower 500 V12 plus 15 years ago.

Pretty unimpressive compared to the GT500. Even though the GT500 jumped, the GT500 obviously kept pulling away. I thought the Z06 would be more impressive, especially after all of the hype.

The car is simply lacking displacement. Good off the line, but then above 100mph simply missing power. Not "horsepower", but power. Just like the Ferrari 458.

Thanks for sharing. Looked like you had fun. Couple things, you lost me with the “stickiest tires you can buy” and the 2-3k hp Huracan. They aren’t and that’s some swing in hp lol. Get some more seat time and get some drag radials on the car then won’t need to bench race. 🎉🎉

This is not the highest horsepower naturally aspirated production engine of all time. Sorry, there are many other engines that are more powerful production engines. 830 HP @ 9,250 RPM in the Ferrari Daytona SP3 6.5 V-12 for example.

With all due respect your car is only half of the equation. The driver is the second part of the equation. You could probably get that up to 160 miles in a half mile but you need to practice a lot more you’re getting off the line way too slow. With that being said, I’m so glad I have my challenger scat pack in the garage for only $42,000. I put Continental all contact tires on and I weigh 300 pounds and I still got a 0 to 60 in four seconds. I have gotten the car up to 162 miles an hour that is plenty for me don’t know the distance how long that took but that’s when I pussed out and let off the gas😂 The z06 is definitely a beautiful car, but definitely out of my price range

Jesus H man - turn F'ing traction control off, skip the launch control BS and learn to drive it. That poor car was falling flat on its TC'd face as soon as you let the LC go. Embarrassing showing for this car and I'm not even a big Vette guy. Turn all that shit off, skip trying this aggressive launch crap (no different than dumping the clutch....) You gotta walk it off the line and pedal it until it grips.

Nah, you shouldn't have destroyed that GT500 on the launch 🤣 you got DRUG bud. You ain't touching that car. And that Zo6 seems to be falling on its face, picking it up and then going. Not sure if you have TCS on or not. But I would rather run it off and throttle control it out the hole instead.
