I appreciate someone putting earlier bosses on the list as I feel like a lot of these rankings only consider them when the player is at their highest strength rather than when they first face them. I agree with a lot of these too. I remember playing on release day and getting hard walled by Margit and not wanting to go upgrade my weapon, but waking up the next day and beating him immediately after I actually took the time to improve my gear. Will be one of the most memorable moments of the experience to me.

I was so glad to see you addressing just how difficult the dragonic sentinels were. I could swear it killed me more times than the times I died in the entirety of leyndell.

The draconic tree sentinel and the crucible warriors are harder than the main bosses sometimes lol

One thing I find interesting about these games is how players disagree on what the hardest bosses are partly due to differing play styles. That’s one thing that makes Malenia unique. Even when trying to exploit her weaknesses by using bleed, frost, fire, Blshpemous Blade, colossals, seizing the initiative, ganking her, etc. you can still have a tough time with her.

Just as you are starting your game, you come across the tree Sentinel, a Dragon and Margit. These three have killed me more times than all the other bosses combined.

Based on number of deaths I had against them: 5. Radagon/Elden Beast - On my 1st playthrough I was using a Bleed/Frost weapon and thus the final boss being immune to everything nerfed my damage pretty hard, so they were able to wear me down several times. On my 2nd playthrough I was using a Faith build with Lord's Divine Fortification and took almost 0 damage in the fight. Being prepared for Holy damage nerfs the difficulty pretty hard. 4. Margit The Fell Omen - Like many people I followed the guidance the game gave me and tested myself against him a couple times before realizing the math was off, along with his very fast knife combos causing a lot of (mostly) unavoidable damage, so I went elsewhere. 3. Necromancer Garris - Such a random guy to have trouble with, but the combination of his spells, flail and snail helpers, they would constantly stunlock me. He also runs about twice as fast as normal, allowing him to be in your face or run away whenever he wants, and spirits can't be used in the fight. 2. Godskin Duo - My first build was tanky but didn't have a ton of DPS, so I was having trouble outpacing their damage, even with a Mimic and NPC summon. The whole "You have to kill them 3.5-4 times" was also brutal. At least once I tried out some Sleep Pots it went fine. 1. Starscourge Radahn - Pre-nerf, and even though I wasn't underleveled he was still easily 1 or 2-shotting me, especially with the 4 rocks he'll summon and hold on to for what seems like forever until I let down my guard. I beat Malenia on my 6th try since I was using a Bleed/Frost build as a mentioned, and I had her down to like 10% on her 2nd phase on my 1st try before she started jumping in the air over and over and never let me get a hit in. As it turns out, Bleed and Frost are the only two procs that can interrupt a lot of her attacks, so I didn't have as much trouble on her. I accidentally did the Leyndell Draconic Tree Sentinel skip on my first playthrough and never beat him (he disappears once Leyndell becomes the Capital of Ash). On my 2nd playthrough I snuck behind him and used Poison Mist on him until he died, without ever triggering the fight, hee hee.

This style of video was really fun! Felt very laid back as you reminisced (or lamented) your Elden Ring struggles, and it took me right down memory lane too, although I had a very different experience on my first play through 😅 This was my first Fromsoft game too, and I wanted to make it as challenging as possible in the early game so I could make habits that would be useful in the endgame. So I did no summons and I refused to put any points into vigor until very late in the game. This also meant that I had pretty high damage and stamina, so it was a clean trade off in my mind. I also was using a broken controller that frequently but unpredictably made move to the left, but that was mainly because I didn’t feel like getting a new one yet 😆 I didn’t have trouble with most bosses, only taking one or two attempts at most, but when I got stuck, I’d get stuck for like 6+ hours, and that was mainly because my vigor was so low that I usually got one-shot, but that’s how I wanted the game to feel anyway, so I didn’t complain. I actually only had 5 bosses give me this kind of trouble so I’ll put em’ here: 5. Margit (Elden Ring boot camp took me like 4 hours, but I learned a lot) 4. Valiant Gargoyles (6 hours and I had to respec into vigor cuz of the poison, but I did go back to base vigor after killing them. This was the first boss that actually made upset in this game) 3. Niall (Took 3 hours, but he also irritated me so I used branches too) 2. Radagon (I actually found Elden Beast pretty easy, but really drawn out. Radagon’s AoEs frustrated me after a while cuz they have very different dodge timings based on the slightest bit of distance from him) 1. Malenia (Took me 9.5 hours, but I loved every second of it. I love these kinds of bosses that make it feel more like an intimate dance than a bar room brawl where you take turns slugging each other till someone falls. This boss was the sole reason I got the game tbh)

I’m guessing this was from a first play through basis, and yeah I agree with all of these from a first time basis. Elemer and Astel stars of darkness beat my ass

My diffuculty experience from an RL1 perspective is essentially 1. Malenia- Only boss that I havent killed RL1. Currently learning parry timings maybe will defeat her someday, but for now I am doing random builds. Around 150 tries in rn 2. Godskin Duo- Only way I could beat them is with Bernahl. 13 tries, and 1st try with Bernahl. 3. Gideon- Spell spam after spell spam. Died 50 times before reseting his encounter, so he did his monologue. Dps'd him down with buff stacking while he monologued. 4. Placidusax- He has a lot of tough to dodge fire attacks, which was ofc a one shot. On a normal build, you can tank a hit from the fire attacks, but here, nah. Took almost 30 attempts. 5. Astel Stars of Darkness- The main problem was the waves of darkness moves, especially the quick 3 wave one handed one. 20 tries, memorized the timing on that attack. Draconic Tree Sentinel- That one quick jab with the hammer caught me an unreasonable amount of times. A part of the reason he was so hard is that I fought him with a +0 uchi, in order too get to my weapon of choice. These were the bosses that griefed me the most. Rest went decently well.

I had trouble with those stupid twin gargoyles. That poison attack is the worst. Maliketh was tricky as well.

Number 0: Soldier of God, Rick Jokes aside, Elden Ring being your first souls game make your analysis all the more impressive! Love your lore videos!! I'm weird... I actually suffered at the hands of Rahdan and Rykard the most aside from Melania whom I've yet to beat Solo...

Not a bad list, it's funny cause I can tell from the list you were doing a magic-centric build since most of these fights punish magic users hard with quick attacks and gap closers lol. Ironically these fights for melee centric players like myself tended to be easier. I LOVE the Bell-bearing hunter fights and Elemer of the Briar since I just methodically role his melee combos (if you stay close he doesn't do his telekinetic stuff except for one combo that has the same cadence as his melee combos) and a lot of times you can bait him into shield slams over and over if you stay behind him and slightly to his right. One thing I would recommend for caster or anyone using a weapon that can't change the ash of war for Melania is to equip a dagger with Bloodhound's Step in their second hand slot. When she goes up for Waterfowl Dance, three dashes away from her will cover the first burst, one more dash will cover the second, and finally a dash TOWARDS her will have her fly right by you for the last burst, wait a second for the last little standing burst and then continue the fight. BHS can also nullify her clone attack as well. Elden Beast is the most atrocious fight in the game and it's a shame cause Radagon is a top 5 fight in my opinon. Elden Beast should have had Torrent, pure and simple, or the arena he's in should have been drastically reduced in size. As Sunburned Albino put it "I feel like I'm doing suicides in gym class".

I know there will always be the more gatekeepy From Soft purists out there who won’t respect anyone who isn’t doing a strict melee build, no bloodhound step, no summons, etc, etc- but its always way more interesting to me to see the sheer variety of ways you can solve the puzzle of Elden Ring’s bosses, and experience a totally different kind of challenge. Gonna try a pure magic build in NG+. Interested to see how it effects my own boss difficulty ranking. Have a feeling Malenia’s still gon be #1 tho lol

@@AHumanJusticar totally agree. Like if you’ve mastered the game and want a greater challenge that’s one reason to artificially restrict your playstyle, but doing it just because others pressure you is sad and limiting in a way that totally contradicts the freedom the game offers.

The fire giant was my nemesis. The first phase wasn't a problem but I kept on getting flambeed in the second. Malenia was a nightmare, the only boss I had to respec for. The second phase of the Godfrey fight was hugely frustrating, getting thrown around the arena like a pine cone. And finally Elden Beast, a marathon boss fight in more ways than one. Just way too much running. Exhausting. Almost needed to lie down after each attempt.

I was able to cheese half of the bosses witn black knife tiche and rock sling. As for me,Maliketh is harder than elden beast and radagon, Because it is very easy after 5 atempts to learn their attack patterns and its very easy to dodge them. Anyways Great list
