When Piloswine uses Earthquake (look at 10:33), you can actually just BARELY see his eyes changing to non-closed for a split second at the end of the animation before the eyebrow things cover the eyes up again, so they're not ALWAYS closed!

Since I've been doing the list topic for 11 years, I keep the intro short since it's the same criteria each time, but basically, weird to us is anything that doesn't match how the Pokémon looks or acts based on what we know about them now or based on what we didn't know at the time, so aspects that are well-known now still can count as weird. Like we didn't know Quilava without its quills at the time since all the sprites had it ignited and it wasn't in the anime, Sentret rarely was seen on 2 legs, and Piloswine's eyebrows never raised until a year later, just to give a few examples. Hope that explained it better! We used to do an explanation like that in the intro.

2:47 -This was what stood out to me. I never really watched the anime by the Johto years. I was a Cindaquil started for Gold version so I was familair with his evolutions sprites but never considered them not having the quills out a hedgehog or porquipine's quills are not retractable so it just never crossed my mind that the pokemon verisons would do that. I guess it makes sense since the quills are actually flames but it still felt very uncomfortable to be when I first played this game. It wasn't just the idea that they dont have the quills out all the time but that msot of the time they are not displayed that felt very off. All I ever saw of them until that point was having them exposed and then seeing naked bushswine on my screen make it feel they were exposing for not exposing! 💛

I like how creative the team was with the Pokémon here. The animations gave them personality or showed off their coolness. It's a shame there weren't more Stadium games. The mini games were my favorite.

Reminder that the Pokemon models in Super Smash Bros. Melee are re-used from the Stadium series. And Brawl used Models from Colo, XD and Battle Revolution, which is why mostly new Pokemon were represented in that game.

porygon is based on a 90s 3d demo of a duck in 3d. It was one that people saw as a proof of concept for 3d games. They added it as a goof as people kept saying creatures needed to do 3d models. They added the one to fulfil the order XD

Miltank is one that always stands out to me in Stadium 2. I specifically remember fighting Whitney in Gym Leader Tower, and when her Miltank uses Rollout, it actually lays on its side and rolls toward the enemy. Pretty funny animation overall.

8:22 -I think thats arguable..I mostly watched the first two seasons and maybe saw a few episodes of Jhoto only that i dint remember. However, I did watch Kanto and the Orange Islands. It was in the later that they traveled to Pudgy Pidgy Island. I know the focus is less on Pidgy itself and more on a Pokrmon comparison to Darwin's observations of biodiverity on the galapagos islands with finches, but it was still all about the Pidgys.

I would love to see modern pokemon sprites borrowing animations from the Stadium, Colisseum, XD, and Battle Revolution games to add personality back to some of our favorite older pokemon but with their cleaner and textured models. Even if the animations were divided between the next games requisite picnicking mechanic and the battles i think it would be cool to see some old animations come back. Maybe it could inspire some new animations for newer pokemon. Also, sidenote, am i the only one imagining how Starter Debuts for remakes of older games could be done similar to the Gens 8 and 9 starter debuts? Imagining how Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip fend off a horde of Poochyena attacking Professor Birch before you get to choose which one you want, or opening up your birthday present to Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott popping out and messing up your room in Black and White remakes...oh! After picking your Johto Starter maybe a cinematic of Silver crashing through the lab window to take the stronger starter which is cowering with the remaining starter plays. So much potential on how to adapt the story of past games with modernized cinematics!

It's a real pity that we never got an official Pokémon Stadium 3. Yeah, we did get the two GameCube games, those being Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness, as well as Battle Revolution for the Wii, but they still weren't really Pokémon Stadium games.

In a weird way, the West never got an official FIRST pokemon stadium. Japan's pokemon stadium 2 is our pokemon stadium 1, and Japan's 3 is our 2. We never got the real first stadium localised

I haven't. Since it was basically the international Pokémon Stadium, but with less 'mons, I didn't plan on covering it, but now that I've covered both main Stadium games, I might go back to Pokémon Stadium 0 if the models are different enough from the first internationally released game.

IDK if there's enough materials if you just focus on models, but the changes are actually pretty meaningful if you look into the ruleset/Mechanic changes/etc. You could perhaps expand it to changes between the entire Stadium-like series though? The original Stadium models did get reskins for post-Stadium 3D games, with a few being great improvements, and Jynx's censorship is an entry on its own. You could manage a list, I'm sure. Edit: Looking things up, I'm actually seeing some folks saying that many models got touched up by the time of PBR, and I did check, myself. Yep, they did go back and add a bunch of polygons- you can tell in key places like finger definition. The rigs look kinda dated, which I think is making them still look a bit less new than the fresh models, but its not triple digit polycount by gen 4. Folks are unnecessarily badmouthing the "old" models over hearsay.
