If you still want Metal Gear, there are two fan games under the name, "Merry Gear," yes, based around (and taking place on) Christmas. The first one is kind of meh, especially regarding voice acting, but sets up the plot for the second one, which worked very hard to give a genuine MGS feeling, complete with jabs at itself, while still playing around with the concept of Christmas, imagination, and breaking the fourth wall, ultimately making the first game's plot tie into everything else. Super fun.

Yeah the loss of Metal Gear is a tragedy and while it may not technically be the worst game on the list Metal Gear Survive certainly deserves the 1 spot for the travesty it committed of an iconic series. The metal gear solid games are very important to me and to know I'll very likely never get to experience that world or get those same feelings from a new game again hurts. While Konami was quick to bury the franchise with an awful game, I do have to give them a little credit for respecting the legacy in smaller ways such a playable Snake and Raiden Bomber in Super Bomberman R and for allowing Nintendo to bring Snake back in super smash bros, which as been a small comfort as a fan. But when you were the ones to shit on that legacy in the first place, these efforts in the grand scheme feel fairly insignificant and Konami has a long way to go if they are ever going to earn even the tiniest ounce of trust from me.

They're basically acting like big babies, and mishandling every single one of "their" IP's. From Castlevania to MGS, to even Silent Hill. I'm surprised that Simon/Richter Belmont, and Solid Snake even made it into Smash Ultimate. They're still mistreating those games, but I don't get why. Are they being run by satan? Are they TRYING to outdo or compete with EA to see which company is worse? To see which company can consume more innocent souls than the other? To see which company can cause more suffering to consumers? To see which company can fire more people and put more and more families out of their homes? To see which company can garner more attention from being the shittiest company of the year? To see how many more and more people can hate them so they can gain more souls and grow stronger than the other, so they can end up causing the apocalypse? Or, is it ALL of the above!?!! You decide!

Once Quiet started humming, I already knew what took #1 but, damn, was I not ready for how it was going to be delivered Ever since my first Rabbidluigi video (an old video talking about the funniest easter eggs in video games) I already knew the Metal Gear franchise held some place in RL's heart, but it wasn't really enough to garner interest from me as I was still a bullheaded young boy at the time (still bullheaded now, but without the pleasure of being so young) But then I saw the first teaser for Ground Zeroes, thinking it to be just another CG teaser for the story only to find it was the visage of the game itself. When it had finally caught my attention, to my eyes was unveiled this strange whimsy and wonder hidden beneath a world of complex tactical espionage and military affairs that I couldn't even fully grasp and yet fired me up even more. Thus began five years obsessing over the lore, the gameplay, the characters and the relationships they had, the funny little Easter Eggs and even the creepy ones, the mystery behind everything, and just, overall, I was fascinated by this mad magnum opus unleashed by THE mad master of video games himself, Hideo Kojima. But, little did I know as I was so distracted by every little intricate detail of the franchise, corporate affairs planted the seeds that wuld grow to be the slow and painful death of a franchise I had just grown to love with a burning passion. Kojima's butting of heads with Konami's brass had already served to make me worry and with what became of that upon Phantom Pain's release, Metal Gear's fate had been sealed. And now, I press on, ruminating on wasted thoughts about the franchise, on what could have been, and what could not. I literally feel a Phantom Pain, knowing that with how Metal Gear drew its final breath, I'll be missing a part of myself for a long damned time.

I agree. I too love the Metal Gear games. From the very first one I played, Sons Of Liberty on the PS2, to Snake Eater, to Peace Walker, to MGS4 even Ground Zeroes, though as a game, it should've just been the prologue of The Phantom Pain, which is another game I love, along with Rising. Though I've never played the original Metal Gear Solid or just the very first Metal Gear or Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, or Metal Gear Acid, or it's sequel, or the one where Big Boss recruits and first meets Roy Campbell sometime in the 1970's. But, I still love the Metal Gear Solid series. They're crazy, stupid, but ingenious, and stand out BECAUSE of how crazy and stupid they can be, because they were helmed by a genius producer, Hideo Kojima, who loved what he was doing, and enjoyed every second and minute of it, and was having a great time, and so were we, the fans. But somewhere along the way, konami lost their shit, and started treating the games and people around them like cattle, as well as subhuman. Torturing the staff, mistreating Kojima and his team, even going so far as to BAN Kojima from accepting an award at an awards show for games HE created! I don't get why they kept giving Kojima and his staff shit. It's just wrong. They even went so far as to wipe Kojima's name from the cover art of MGS5: The Phantom Pain. Where it should say, "A Hideo Kojima Game", at the top of the cover, it just doesn't. But, you know what? Kojima himself got back at those demonic bastards by plastering his name ALL over the game's credits, so every time you start a game in MGS5, his name shows up, saying the game was produced by Hideo Kojima, at the beginning and end of every mission in MGS5. They can't get rid of THAT. And, no matter what, no matter what evil things konami try and do to our beloved Metal Gear series, they CAN'T wipe away the memories and the time we spent playing those games away. No matter HOW many shitty, half-assed metal gear imitators they'd put out, they CAN'T take away what Kojima did for the MGS games, and for gaming as a whole. He REVOLUTIONIZED a genre of gaming, gave us the GREATEST stealth/action series out there, which had some of the best stories in gaming history, with some of the best plot twists in gaming history, with some of the best voice acting in gaming history, with some of the best soundtracks in gaming history, from "Yell, Dead Cell" in MGS2, to the iconic theme song of Snake Eater, so, no matter what konami would've tried and failed to do to sabotage Kojima, or MGS, they will NEVER succeed, because of the devoted, passionate fans, and all the time, and memories we ALL have of playing games like the Metal Gear Solid franchise. You know, I'm thinking that the iconic end scene of Snake Eater would fit here, where Eva tells Naked Snake about The Boss, and where it ends with EVA saying to Big Boss/Naked Snake, that The Boss was a true patriot, while Big Boss is crying and saluting her honor in front of her grave. That is how we say our farewells to this illustrious and absolutely amazing, as well as wonderful, and incredibly inspiring series. Thank you. And, the Metal Gear Solid franchise itself, was a true patriot. Thank you, and goodbye. I'll end this with a salute to you, good sir, as well as to Will, and to the Metal Gear Solid games and to the staff of the games themselves, and to the games themselves too, as well as to Kojima, before walking away into the sunset... farewell, Metal Gear Solid, and never forget.

That number 1 segment is flawless. I don't want to say it's the best thing you've done, but it might be. You gave the series so much love and attention and then name dropped the game at the end and moved on like it was nothing. Honestly that was the best way to cover a "bad" game, focus on anything other than a game that doesn't deserve the attention.

Metal Gear Solid ended for me with Metal Gear Solid 4. It was the perfect way to finish a franchise that has been so wacky yet so endearing for the years I've played it, starting at Metal Gear Solid 1 and going forward. I've been tempted to play The Phantom Pain from how much I've heard about the Fox engine being so good in it but haven't due to it not being a finished game, mainly due to Konami rushing it out and then getting ride of Hideo Kojima but also due to it being a name that really wasn't needed. If Konami have killed the franchise by making Survive as bad as it was then at least we won't need to see the name of Metal Gear Solid rot as it has for other Konami franchises.

Welp, DMC5 was rad, unlike these games. 10: Might as well stick to Evil Within 2. 9: Both Shaqfu 2 and Bubsy 4 were self aware at least. But why is the former a 3D Streets of Rage Clone? It's kind of like Dynasty Warriors in that the first game was a fighting game, while the sequel is a beat em up. 8: The agony is probably from the disappointment. 7: Speak of Lu Bu. I think I heard some people say the story is decent at least, but in terms of gameplay... why not make it a Total War type game? I'd play a Dynasty Warriors RTS. 6: Oh, and after The Cu2ing was cancelled after launch, they decided to go back and make the first game better. So that's cool. 5: Is this an Asset Flip? Wow, how do you make The Slaughtering Grounds look decent? 4: Don't get this game confused with the better film A Quiet Place. 3: PLEASE let Doom Eternal be good... 2: Give us HalfLife 3 because this ain't it. 1: Wow... I love how profound this entry was. Instead of talking about how bad Survive was, it's talking about how it won't change how good the rest of the franchise is.

When you look at the last game of each franchise Konami made in the recent years you do kind of get a sense of this passive aggressive hatred for gaming. As if to say they don’t like them anymore and they don’t want to make them anymore but doing it out of an obligation until knows no more interest in that franchise and if you give them money while they’re doing it that’s good for them but they don’t really care anymore. Metal gear Silent hill Castlevania It’s like ifJK Rowling didn’t like the Harry Potter franchise anymore but kept writing books that progressively made Harry and the others more and more unlikable in the hope that people would just stop reading and she could stop writing.

That funeral speech at #1 really tugged on my heartstrings... I honestly agree with your sentiments... Perhaps Konami killing off Metal Gear was for the best? Honestly, I think I prefer this abrupt ending over the alternative: having the series continue onward, uninspired, without any of the soul or passion of the originals. Metal Gear was practically done at that point, and it died a quick death, and I feel like that's the best outcome in this situation. This way, we'll always have the past to look back on and enjoy without the series' reputation getting dragged through the mud in the future. I'm also hoping that the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Movie serves as a final send-off for this beloved series, so that it may go out in style in classic MGS fashion.
