@KGtropicals, soon I will be getting a 40 gallon breeder, and I’m planning to put: 1 Ranchu or pearlscale goldfish 10 rosy red minnows 2-3 dojo loaches Does this sound ok? If not what do you think will work better, I want as many dojo loaches as possible lol. I already have the 10 minnows in a different tank so I can’t get less of them or anything. Thx!

First of all: You, Lisa, are the reason I now have a betta in a tank on my desk! And I definitely needed this video, because my poor little betta is not in great shape. I got her for free two days ago from a guy who couldn't keep her; she was being bullied by his other fish, so he temporarily re-homed her to a bucket (with heater and filter), but he didn't have a place she could live permanently. Her fins are in a right state, and her tail was nearly completely gone - but both fins and tails are healing/regrowing and she seems healthy enough; lively and personable now that she's in an 8-gallon tank. I've never wanted a betta in particular, but I do love an underdog - so now she lives with me and I need to make sure she bounces back and becomes the best and happiest little fish she can possibly be! So right now I need to know the warning signs to look out for over the coming weeks as she settles in. And I kind of love her, though she's not very pretty right now. She will be in time, if I do my job right.

Hi Lisa and John I have been following youse and Aquarium Co-op for about 18mths now. I started watching for research about Betta fish. And I finally took the leap and bought my beautiful boy LB ( little big, little fish big heart) 😊 Anyway he arrived on Thursday, and on Saturday I noticed he had fin clamp (dorsel fin) , and thanks to your channel I didn't panic. I changed the water and turned the heat up. And now he is swimming about happy... So Thank you 🥰 love from Aberdeen Scotland 💜

One of my bettas is nearly always having problems. In fact, I got him because his previous owner couldn't figure out what was wrong with him and thought it was their fault. I was given practically every medicine along with the betta and his tank. What helped turned out to be vitamin-infused blackworms. But he gets finrot at the drop of the hat for no apparent reason. Nothing shows up in water tests. He's in a 10 gallon planted tank. I feed a varied diet. I've tried various medications over time. I give him time. He just doesn't regrow his tail or when he does, he gets sick again. I'm positive he has an awful immune system or genetics. Lately he just lays around and doesn't swim much. My other betta bit his tail a couple weeks ago and the missing piece is already growing/grown back.

Thanks for the video. I'm still trying to figure out what I did wrong with my betta. He made bubble nests all the time, so I did water changes pretty often and always used dechlorinates. I also used a turkey baster to spot clean the tank. He was fed a variety of foods daily. The tank had live nitrating bacteria added to it with a low stream filter and a heater at 76 degrees F. There was nothing too sharp in the tank and it has two live plants that are doing well. I found him dead at the top of the tank several days ago and I'm still so sad. I'd had him for about 3 months.

I can’t add salt because I have a nerite snail in my bettas tank. I know he has swim bladder because he’s struggling to swim at top and goes to the bottom to rest. I will get him what you said. I gave him peas, brine shrimp but I will fast him again. He’s hungry so that’s good and is mostly active but goes to the bottom as soon as he can. I haven’t witnessed him poop yet. He’s not pine cone but I am afraid for him. This video helped a lot. Thanks

I went to Petsmart the other day. They had 9 dead bettas, still in their cups, on the sales floor. I brought an associate over to show her and her answer was "They are right by the door so the cold air kills them" I was shocked at her answer!!! It's disgusting. We are currently setting up the tank we bought while there. I am going back to rescue a few of the females once it's ready.

How much salt do you add ?
@ironfae2 жыл бұрын
@@leo2o915 I usually dilute 1 tbsp. into warm water and add that to every ten gallons. You should add salt to a new tank only once. It’s not something you you need to do periodically. Small amounts are healthy for both freshwater fish and plants.

I have added fresh water and some tank salt along with some meds from api in her separate tank. We added a few snails and two ghost shrimp's to our 5 gallon. She swims to the top to get air and goes back down to rest on the rocks. Hoping she survives and get her vision back...

My cousin had a female betta living in a 10 gallon with 4 comet goldfish. He had no heater so the water was ice cold, the water is more than halfway empty and completely green, the filter was so full of algae it was just barely dripping. She’s also been fed on goldfish flakes for 3 years. So yesterday I went to his house and I saw how bad his tank was and his betta was just laying on the floor and her eyes were bulging. I put her in a water bottle and took her home. I didn’t even ask because I know he’s trying to let them die so he doesn’t have to take care of them. But anyways now I have her floating in my 20 gallon long with my single comet goldfish and she’s in one of those acrylic breeder containers so she gets water flow. I’m feeding her frozen blood worms and brine shrimp along with betta flakes. If there is anything else I can do please let me know because I just want to help her. I also want to help those goldfish he has but his mom won’t let him give them to me. He has never cleaned his own tank for the 3 years he’s had it but I try to go clean it as much as I can.

How much aquarium salt should I use? My betta is in a fully cycled 5.5 gallon and his fins are looking ragged, his eye is bulging a little and he has a white patch, not fuzzy, on his back and some of his fins are looking bleached in areas. I have done two rounds of KanaPlex so far and he has only gotten worse. I do also have API E.M. Erythromycin on hand, should I use that maybe with the salt? I am starting to do daily water changes to see if that helps. He is still eating well but hiding a lot more. Please help me? I love him so much. I don't know what's wrong with my Betta, but he was in fantastic health until I went away for a one day resort stay. My roommate cared for the fish, and when I came back he seems to have contracted fin rot, or at least was harmed severely by the filter or rocks in the tank, and he has pop eye in both eyes. I'm treating him right now with KanaPlex from SeaChem, and API's Melafix, as well as some aquarium Salt, but I'm concerned for his well being. He is swimming vertically half the time, his fins are severely deteriorated, and his eyes are very swollen. There's 5 tetras in the tank with him, and a sorority of 4 female bettas who I suspect also have some fin damage, and theres an african dwarf frog.

I put a beautiful betta in a 60 gallon with live plants, driftwood, 10 little tetras and 2 bristlenose plecos. I was feeding a varied diet and 2 heaters keep the tank between 78°- 80°. I thought I was spoiling him. Water parameters looked good- and then he died after just a few days in my care. He looked so healthy and happy, I thought he was sleeping at first 😬 I still have no idea what I did wrong, if anything.

Hey KGTropics, I'm new to the hobby of keeping fish. I'm trying to figure out how to treat my betta fish for what I believe is bacterial infection and abccess. He has a large white lump on his side. I treated it for a little over a month with melafix. I stopped treating him a couple of weeks ago. The lump was getting smaller but for the past few days it looks like a zit, that's about to pop. Before, I treated him he lost all of his color as the lump grew bigger. At one point the lump was so big that he swam sideways. Do know what this lump might be?

My betta is just staying on the corner but when i added a filter and a cooler, the fish starts to move again. So if your fish is not moving maybe he/she is boring or need some oxygen. If his/her fin is rotting it means its suffering from fungus and it can die

I'm so mad! I have the absolute nicest smartest betta fish and I get a different story for every video or blog I read or watch as to water changes. I have NO IDEA how much to feed my betta and guess I've been overfeeding. I use flakes. The back to the roots people said change the water once every 6-8 weeks (which sounds absolutely ridiculous) and other places say do 100 percent water changes just like you're saying. Everything was fine then he was starting to get fin rot again and I did a 90 percent water change and he got really sick and got swim blatter at the same time. I did a big catapa leaf, prime and seed and also did lifeguard for 5 days and then I lowered the water way down because he was struggling to swim. I did another 100 percent water change after the lifeguard and now he's just laying down at the bottom of the tank. I put 20 drops of prime (3 gallon tank) and a 1/2 teaspoon of Seed bacteria. He's just down there not moving at all laying near the heater. I don't even know what else to do or if I'm still supposed to be doing 100 percent water changes and how often (you didn't say) or even if 100 percent water changes are good for him. It's all so confusing. I wish I could know EXACTLY what to do to save him he's my favorite he's so smart and funny and lively and now he's doing really bad. UGH! How much should I be feeding him? How often do I do 100 percent water changes? How long do I do this for? Do I put prime and seed every day or just at water changes? How soon will he start to look like he's getting betta
