Hey there, mates. Fellow Scalp seborrheic dermatitis sufferer here. This is for people like me. I had this dandruff thing maybe 3 years ago from now. Severe dandruff, got bald and can see patches of fungus there. Doc at first recommended (Clobetasol Propionate 0.025% lotion) and (salicylic acid 2% and ketoconazole 2% shampoo). Worked well, but the solution wasn't a long term solution. There's nothing bad with using the shampoo long term. Dandruff was still recurssing at this point. Tried (ketoconazole 2%) only shampoo, didn't work. Itchy, redness and danruff on scalp. Moderate hairfall. Tried (ketoconazole 2% and zinc pyrithione 1% shampoo) only. All dandruff wen't away just like that. Extremely effective for me, but at the cost of heavy hairfall. Was depressed at this point. Then tried a "piroctone olamine" only shampoo for a few days. Recurring dandruff but very slight ithciness and normal hairfall. Didn't work that well. Doc said no but still was using that lotion I mentioned in the first treatment(like maybe once every 10 days and danruff was under very good control). Finally, currently using (Ciclopirox olamine 1% & zinc pyrithione 1% shampoo). Works like charm. Had to use it every alternate day initially, but now once twice a week works fine. Hope this helps to some of you out there! Thanks, Vicky.

Personally, I stopped consuming dairy, and have a strict skincare routine: Morning: - Cleanse with a SA cleanser - Lightweight moisturizer (I use a green tea day moisturizer that's oil free) - Sunscreen Night: -Cleanse with a SA cleanser (If I do it in the shower, I'd sometimes use the Z-bar soap) -Tretinoin 0.05% (every other night) -2% Salicylic acid (every other night im not using the Tretionoin) -Night moisturizer with Retinol This seems to work very well for me.

@adamolition8702
@adamolition8702 Жыл бұрын
@@Mimmato23 i've been using the SA Cleanser (The one I'm using is from GARNIER, Cleansing gel with active carbon and SA - Don't mistake it for the 3 in 1 face mask bullcrap, it's only the cleanser one! I've made that mistake, not happening again) for the better half of a decade, (I'm 26, and started my SebDerm skincare journey at 16, and always used it) But that alone is definitely not enough, I've seen flareups since the start (could've been that I wasn't consistent enough). The SA "Toner" or Leave-on. I've used for almost 3 years now, seen the best results from using that. I've been using Paula's Choice SA 2% for around 2 years, but it's quite expensive, so I've swapped to COSRX BHA which is doing practically the same job as the Paula's Choice one. Not alot of complaints right now, but If I could afford, I'd go back to the Paula's Choice, I can feel it being very strong and working fast. As for the Retinoid Night Cream (I'm currently using the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Face Moisturizer, the Fragrance free kind!), I've been using it as along as the Paula's Choice SA 2%, So also around 2 years, nothing too dramatic, Just a nice night moisturizer and I wouldn't say it helped me in any special way with the SebDerm OR the first few months of using Prescription Retinoids (for the side-effects). As for the Tretinoin 0.05%, I'm already starting my 3rd tube, so around 4months now, I can't say it did anything major to help with SebDerm as the SA Cleanse coupled with the SA Toner really keeps it calm quite well, but the rest of my skin does look and feel alot healthier, softer, glowy (not oily though). and it does help with occasional breakouts (us oily skined people know alot about). Now for the Z-Bar, I've been using it as a full body + face soap, it works great, nothing too special and I don't see any improvement, but no negative effects either, so I'm happy with it. And lastly, the Lightweight moisturizer (I'm using the Garnier Botanical Cream Green Tea - Not their regular green tea 3 in 1.) and I've been using it since I started using my SA Cleanser, so around 9-10 years. It's really nice, very lightweight, doesn't leave a shine, moisturizers great and it's oil free, Honestly, couldn't recommend it enough. And do I change the products or my routine every few weeks, I don't. If I could, I would go for a stronger Tretinoin, like the 0.1%, but that's not available in my country, even if I had a prescription. And as people say, If it's not broken, don't fix it. The routine keeps my SebDerm under control and not very noticeable, so I'm pleased. Also, I use Head&Shoulders on the daily. so that could also help. I don't wash my face with it though, only the scalp Hope this helped. :)

Ketoconazole is amazing. When my doctor prescribed it, it was like all the fungus died all at once and my skin could immediately start the damage recovery process. After a week, my scalp and face were so healthy, it looked like my face was under a camera filter! Should have gone to my doctor sooner instead of wasting money on over the counter products. The irrational would flare up and hurt/itch so bad sometimes. Definitely changed my life!

I developed seborrheic dermatitis on my face around nose and chin since the pandemic from wearing masks. I finally saw a dermatologist that confirmed this and gave me prescription treatment cream which did not help. I’ve tried natural ingredient, such as tea tree oil , expensive creams, dandruff shampoo etc and nothing worked. With recommendations of a pharmacist I applied a small amount of hydrocortisone 1% ointment ( Vaseline type not the cream) and small amount clotrimazole topical cream 1% ( approx 50/50 ratio) and applied for 14 days and inflamed sebaceous dermatitis gone. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars trying different creams and this is the only thing that worked!! I also avoid applying oils on skin.

I was wondering if anyone was going to recommend ACV. I have this condition on my scalp, and will sometimes get flare ups on my face. I do an ACV rinse in the shower after washing my hair. Apply to scalp, massage it in, let sit for a few minutes, then rinse out. Works better than anything else I've tried. It has the added benefit of helping with my high porosity hair, helps to close the cuticle by adjusting ph.

Works for me. If lactose intolerant then avoid lactose or take lactase tablets with diary foods/drinks.

I 'used' to have this. I remember one day I stood up from the sofa and I went out in the hallway, and there I just stood and staired at the mirror. I was red all over all. After that hell began. I went to the doctor. Four of them and four different symptoms they diagnosed me with. All from beard fungus, to rosacea to some kind of dandruff in the skinn. They gave me evertyhing to 'try'. And I tried it. Some only made it worse. Cortisone was one of the first things they gave me. That only made my skin dry, and the problem bigger. But one doctor actually took me serious and did send me to a professional. She saw right away what it was. It was Seborrheic Dermatits. "Use this", she said and gave me a ointment. This ointment is not that bad for the skinn either. Like I understand its like Vaseline. I went home and applied on and around the areas where I had the problem. Almost the same night I could see the difference. The next day it was almost totally gone. I will have to use this everytime I get the Seborrheic attacks and also 2 days each week/ morning and evening. That will most of the time prevent it from coming back. I have not had this problem for a long time now. And when it does appera, i just apply this ointment on that area, and it will make the problem go away quicker, sometimes even durring the same day. I do not know what this ointment is called in english, but I will give away the name of it in my language. It is called *Tacrolimus* Nothing I ever did, ever helped to cure my Seborrheic Dermatits, but with this i can keep it somewhat under control. I also avoid some food that they say are not good when you have this. Food with Omega 6 in it. They say that omega 6 causing inflammation in the skinn. And that is to be avoid. I used to eat alot of melons. But not any more. Also I stay away from nuts. So my suggestion to everyone out there; try Tacrolimus. It really helped me. The only bad thing about it, might be that your skinn will look little 'oily' when applied to it. Even though it is not an oil. But I rather have that, then the red skinn. It will disappear during the day anyway. For people who has never had this skinn afflict, they will never know how it is to live with it. But there are help out there. Dont give up. This ointment worked for me, hopefully it will help someone else too. Good luck to everyone.

Tacrolimus seems to be some kind of sledgehammer! Its a heavy immunsuppressor, used in transplantations and for bad ekzems. Of course the skin does not dare to make flakes or so... Google it or look it up in Wikipedia. I would be careful. I have seborrhoic dermatitis since I was 20 - now I am 80. As first medication the doctor gave me Cortison cream. Helped at first, but I do not want tu use cortison regularly. Besides, it's effect fades with longer use. Salicylic acid helps, but only strenghtens the skin surface, does not eradicate the yeast. It came up now and then again. Ketoconazol (Nizoral shampoo and Fungoralcream) was much better, but can have also undesirable side effects, like liver damage. I still use it, but only when the rush is very bad. Normally, regular washing with head and shoulders and rinsing with apple vinegar is enough to keep it under control. I think the main problem is that the Malassezia yeast does not stay on the skin surface, but goes deeper into the tissue where creams and shampoos do not reach it. It can affect almost every part of the body, but mostly ears, eyes, mouth and nose. Wherever it arrrives, it does not kill you, but can affect inner ogans also. And from time to time, it uprises again and is seen on the skin. I now tried a 10%DMSO solution on the scalp and the face, a few drops per day. DMSO (dimethylsulfoxid) is a carrier, going deep into the body. No more outbrake since last September.

The main REASON could be too high omega 6 to omega 3 ratio in sebum. Today the consumption of omega 6 is just extremely high and onega 3 extemely low. This is the cause of SD. MCT oil C8 or C10 helps SD. Not C12 though, be aware. Google my information and see for yourself.

04:07 "Some people are just more sensitive to the yeast breaking down these oils." I wish more research could be focused on this, rather than just the band-aid of reducing the yeast levels on the skin. There has to be some tangible reason WHY some of us are more sensitive to these yeasts, and why this sensitivity leads to inflammation and rapid cell turnover.

My guess would be diet. A lot of times yeast related conditions are directly linked to sugary foods being consumed or diabetes. Not saying this specific condition is but just a thought based on other knowledge I’ve come across. Limiting sugar, carbs, any foods that turn to sugar would probably help a lot.

Mine is chronic, it started a bit after teenagehood when I was struggling with depression and anxiety disorder. I never went away but I manage it pretty easily by following a strict routine. I wash my face with tea tree soap and then hydrate (not with oil of course cause oils don't hydrate) with a serum and a cream, twice a day. I started following a vegan lifestyle 2 years ago and for some reason the dermatitis became less angry and painful. I'm thinking maybe cutting out dairy, meat and eating way more greens was beneficial. But mostly I'd say having a good skincare routine and being consistent is the key ^^

You are completely right saying not putting on any sort of oil! Even the good ones, it makes the condition much worse. My case is severe, the whole head, eyebrows, chest, groin, ears are involved. There is no cure for that. I have been fighting with it for over 30 years, nothing works, except shaving and washing every single day. A regular soap suffices

My hubby’s skin is complex. He has psoriatic arthritis and seborrhea, sometimes tinea versicolor. Can’t take biologics or methotrexate. He’s on Otezla, which has helped psoriasis and arthritis a bit, but hasn’t really helped his face. He was recently started on Vtama, which helped his knees and elbows, but got irritation and comedones of the face. Pretty sure his face and scalp are mostly seborrhea, though does have a malar appearance. He also uses ketoconazole shampoo on scalp and face, and steroids. His face and joints looked amazing when we visited a hot, humid location for 2 weeks. Right now, his face is irritated and raw, several areas of hyperpigmentation on his dark complexion. He’s been scrubbing too hard and not moisturizing. I’m trying to help him restore his skin barrier first, and use a gentle SA cleanser without scrubbing with SA cream from Cerave as a moisturizer after his desonide. Was thinking of adding niacinamide and azelaic acid later on, mostly bc our tween is using that for acne and less clutter the better. I hope it helps him this time.l, and that he can finally get off topical steroids. 😅

I feel for you, and him. My doctor diagnosed me with this, however I’m not convinced. I had SD 30 years ago and maybe I do still suffer a little (yes eyebrow and hairline a bit dry), but I’m convinced this isn’t my issue at the minute (pustules each morning and itchy and red face - I suspect rosacea). Anyway, I just wanted to say that I have been impressed with The Ordinary squalane cleanser - feels really calming. I’ve also been using their Azelaic acid and niacinamide each night and it’s really helped me - I know I’m probably different. I’m not so convinced about their moisturiser though. I’m in my 60s and have never had skin issues before now. 30 years ago I was given coal tar shampoo. Huge flakes of scalp used to fall off. Certain shampoos can still kick me off. Good luck helping him.

I'm 40 and I've had it on my scalp for 32 years. Nothing works other than steroid creams and you don't want to take those long term because they cause skin thinning, pressure in the eyes, and can cause cancer. I've tried antifungal creams, tea tree oil, vitamin C, honey, 🥥 oil, MCT oil, all brands of dandruff shampoos, supplementing Zinc, vitamins, taking a borage oil supplement, and switching to a keto diet. I also stopped getting flakes when I tried fasting for 5 days straight but I think that was just because my body didn't have the energy to keep the rapid skin turnover going because the moment I resumed eating food the scalp resumed flaking like mad. Also lost some hair from that which never came back.

Sorry to hear that only the steroids help. I'm a 42 year old male and have tried the battery of solutions you listed above - not finding anything that seems to help long term. I have not had a prescription for steroids (or anything else) to this date. I will say my symptoms are also getting worse at time goes on. Flare ups are now much more intense and widespread than years ago. Be well friend!
@duketogo2616

@@JadedEvan My next strategy is going to be to use the steroid cream to get the flare up gone and skin back to normal for about a week then use ketoconazole antifungal cream and a triple antibiotic ointment cream to try to prevent the malassazea yeast from proliferating and keep any staph bacteria at bay. I was reading on the sebderm reddit that many people saw big improvement when they were taking prescription oral antibiotics and the problem returned when they got off of them and a researcher there was thinking it was a combination of both staph bacteria and the malassazea yeast that cause the flaking response by the body so maybe trying some antibacterial measures as well then restoring the moisture barrier of the scalp after getting the flare up under control may have an effect.

My seborrheic dermatitis isn't severe, and my face doesn't seem oily at all, but I have the flaking condition on my forehead, alongside my nose ,and to a lesser extent on the rest of my face. Also, red patches on the upper part of my cheeks. Well, I found this product which works great for me, and I don't even have to use much of it. It's the "Wild Naturals" brand Eczema & Psoriasis cream, found on Amazon, around $40.00 if I remember correctly. It's an 8 Oz jar, which will probably last me a year since I usually only apply it once a day. I hope this can help someone.

@@sukwanthomas9434 Eat everything that is not processed food, and do not eat foods that add sugar to the blood, such as potatoes, rice, pasta, flour, cookies, ice cream, bread. Your diet should be based on meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, seeds, nuts and fruit, the only source of sugar you can have is eating a piece of fruit Don't drink juices, just tea and water Follow this diet for a week to a month, and you will see your dermatitis go away. It's also good to remember that vitamin D is an important factor in dermatitis, a lot of people think that sunbathing contains vitamin D, but it's not that simple, if you don't have enough magnesium, the body doesn't absorb vitamin D, so it would be good Also implement a magnesium and vitamin D supplement, or you can eat spinach or another source of magnesium and take some sunbathing. my issues seem to be a multifaceted little gem of irritation. I've always had oily skin and fine hair. first, I had my doctor script me a bottle of ketoconazole shampoo and a cream of the same. that got things under control. I used the cream for about 5 months and 1 month for the shampoo. I had to stop scratching. next I had to change my grooming habits a bit. I had been breaking out on my thighs and butt from ingrown hairs since I was a teenager. the problem was that I was only using soap and water. I have to use a washcloth to properly exfoliate my skin to prevent that. the washcloth and dandruff shampoo have worked very well to maintain. I still break out a little occasionally but my skin everywhere, is pretty nice now. I try to not touch my face if I can help it. normally I don't attempt to do my doctors job, but I wasn't getting any results and am absolutely sick of skin problems. I can stand stuff in my hair eyebrows it looks like hell, and I had enough of it. hopefully that's useful.

Forget it. Any skin treatment is a temporary fix, at best. The reason why most of us (if not all) have these skin conditions is most likely that our diet is inflammatory. Try carnivore diet for a month (be as strict as possible) and let me know. Keto can also help but the more toxics you eliminate from your diet, the better (that's why carnivore diet works best; it's the best elimination diet). I've been on the carnivore diet for not even two weeks and my skin is back to normal, after decades of suffering. I have no words to describe the changes I'm experiencing 🙏

heyy @irmadirocco6260, i've been dealing with this condition for 4 years now and here's everything i learned . i've tried soo much stuff and the only 2 things that really seemed to work and are the cheapest options were the Dove soap bar as a daily cleanser and aloe gel as a moisturizer (apply it while your face is still wet, don't miss this step). reducing sugar, dairy and gluten really helps as well. if you live in an environment where the air is dry you should apply a thin layer of vaseline over the gel as it helps to lock the moisture in the skin. sometimes i would use Aveeno 1% hydrocortisone anti-itch cream if the condition gets really really bad (do NOT use it more than 7 days in a row). using witch hazel toner hleps calm the irritation and also unclogs your pores (i only use it if my pores are clogged but it could be uesd twice a week for a clearer skin). P.S: if you ever feel like trying a different routine, make sure that the products are oil free and non comedogenic.

I’m still baffled people constantly say it is the oil gland and yeast that is the cause, because it’s not it’s a symptom of things in your body and mind that doesn’t work as it should. If you produce too much oil and have higher than normal yeast on those are it’s because of changes in your body typically onset by your mental state and diet. Skin conditions long been linked to mental health issues , almost all studies shown that people with skin conditions also have mental health issues. Many with this also show to have other autoimmune diseases like irritable bowel syndrome. Any sort of cream or shampoo with ingredients battling the symptoms isn’t going to remove it, it’s suppressing it. Taking steroid creams and disinfectant is a big no, no for prolonged periods as it might unset even worse conditions. The solution is taking care of your mental health, reduce stress, eating healthier and more balanced that means also reducing excessive amounts of carbohydrates, especially in terms of refined sugars, alcohols and basically anything that offset inflammation in your body.

I’m just so damn tired of this condition. I have it it my face mainly . Nose and on the sides of nose on face . First flare up was at 17 /18 years ….. before that I had normal beautiful skin im not sure what caused it . Long story short , I was given a corticosteroid cream when I was diagnosed cause I had a flare up but I didn’t really pay attention and I used that cream for so many years as a moisturizer basically which is bad . Really bad . Is there such thing as corticosteroid withdrawal? I started using a SD moisturizer that doesn’t contain any oils that feeds malezia . 3 main ingredients , 1. Xylitol , 2.MEDIUM TRIGLYCERIDES, 3. SQUALANE it’s a moisturizer . Been using it for 4 days now. It’s def helped with redness but my issue is . My face looks oily. I also started using La roche posay 2% salicylic acid FACE cleanser, use it morning and night . But my face looks oily in the area . I’m just trying to get my skin to look okay without people just staring . Well that’s just what I think. It’s affected me mentally bad bad

It started along my scalp, spread to my face on either side of my nose bridge, then under my sideburns and in my ears. I am really trying to figure out if it is indeed SD because it also seems like they are psoriatic plaques on the face.... I feel so defeated with this mostly because no one can tell me what it is. I have tried the ketoconazole (both topically and orally), the zinc pyrithione, salicylic acid, coal-tar, pimecrolimus, and finally betamethasone drops. The steroid seems to be the only thing that worked for the scalp, however, when used on the face can cause permanent skin bleaching and capillary beds to appear, which I have experienced when I have used it on my face in desperation. It did get rid of the plaques but the tradeoff is not worth it in the long run. I need help, I might ask for another round of the Medrol dose pack but I really wish i definitively knew what would work.
