Same Tommi Mäkinen was the chief of the Toyota rally team during 2017 to 2020 before moving on to being a motorsports advisor for Toyota. He led the Toyota rally team to victory in 2018. He actively participated in developing the Yaris GR. I feel like that cements its place in that line up even more.

Nobody in my family thought about getting an homologation car, such as the Lancia Delta for example, when it came out. Although my uncle had a Ford Thunderbird, so he was into fast cars, not even he acquired such a beauty as shown in the video. For my part, I own the GR Yaris (gen. 1) and love this machine; the noises it makes when shifting gears, the feel of the brakes (the steering one needs to get used to, for it is steering by wire, and that’s new to me), the way it corners, quick and agile in a city setting, a ton of acceleration, massive amount of grip, no essential buttons are hidden away in the infotainment system, dedicated climate control, etc. It’s fantastic and worth every cent. And btw, I’m over 6 feet (180 cm), and the driving position is not too high imho; the mirror is precisely positioned so that with one glance one can see out of the back! Drawback: the view to the opposite side of steering wheel is a bit hindered, but I’m already used to it. Cheers fellas, and safe driving! Toyota really work hard to bring the best they could out there , I remember Chris review of the GT86 and how he was amazed by the engineering that goes behind it .. great review btw .

This car, much like the original M2, is one of those instant classics. They are simple, easy to understand, unbelievably exciting… they have been built with a level of love and understanding that seeps through every molecule of bodywork. Not bland numbers, no customer base derived selling points… they are made to be brilliant and invented to be characterful. They are the kind of brilliance we love about all our dream cars, our bedroom wall posters, our heroes. They are - simply put - era defining drivers cars.

This is the best Top Gear and one of the best car reviews I've seen since the old TG, the GR Yaris is a brilliant car, I had to watch this 3 times to squeeze all the goodness out of it. Epic👌👌👍

Driven 4 units of these babies since 3mths ago, and its an absolutely brilliant performer. So comfortable and quiet on regular roads, its also a superbly unstressing daily driver.

"It's one of the best cars I have driven in years." I'm agree. Just like Jeremy Clarkson said to the icon LFA a decade ago. And GR Yaris is already a modern icon just like those OG legends.

There are certainly 2 cars missing in the line up from the rally legends and thats the Toyota Celica where they did rallying with and the Subaru Impreza. But still a great line up and great review!

What an honor at the end! We always talk thrash about beige corollas and camrys but we should not forget the AE86, the celica gt-4, the isF, the LFA, the new 86 and the italian destroyer, the Supra. Living in the Canadian snow 5 month/year , I'm waiting for the awd GR Corolla!!

I love how Top Gear really transmits the pasion for special cars, and also, The GR Yaris and 86 show that when Toyota wants to make a sports car they are among the best automakers out there.

Funny! Here in germany, the Type R (without any options) costs exactly the same like a GR Yaris incl. circuitpack, the A35 (without any options) costs 11 grand more and the Fiesta St with a hybrid that has only half the horses and is 17 grand cheaper (naked)...btw I love my GR YARIS!

a fiesta st with a 'hybrid' puts out like 300-350hp

New GR yaris's are selling on autotrader now for £42000 new... I'm sorry but it would have to be gold plated for £42000 imo. That's just way too much for a yaris regardless how much fun is it.

Exactly my thoughts he’s also forgetting the Toyota made the LFA supra MK four MR two turbo in about 20 other fun vehicles I do not understand why people like to forget and act like Toyota don’t know what they’re doing. Toyota is very conservative most of the time but when they are ready to dominate they dominate
