In our hearts, he will always be Sparky Sparky Boom Man And that awesome Ozai statue has a cool backstory. The town is called Fire Fountain City. Named for the statue (but originally it was called North Chung-Ling). The statue pulls its fuel from an immense reserve of subterranean gas. That's how it continuously has flames. In The Shadow of Kyoshi novel, the village built a tourist industry around the deposits of natural gas by constructing tents around the exhaust points. The gases could create a dizzy and hallucinatory effect the locals billed as journeys to the Spirit World. And this was where Kyoshi found her spiritual master, Nyahitha, who was also Avatar Kuruk's spiritual master

The way messenger pigeons work is that theoretically, they can always find their way home, so if you wanted to send someone a message, you'd need one of their pigeons. In the Avatar world (and probably real life, idk I learnt this from a fantasy book I read when I was 12) there seems to be messenger hawk stations which probably have tonnes of hawks from other stations, so the people who work there would probably just read the address of the letter and send it to the closest station.

Pigeons are very good at navigation, they can find their way back home from hundreds of miles away. So, you raise the pigeons in one place, then take them with you when you go out to do something, and when you release it with the message attached, it finds its way back to its "home".
@onetom22223 жыл бұрын
And with Hawky I figured that they have a post system set up where the message from a messenger Hawk is taken and forwarded to house BeiFong, since they're rich. Only weird that the Fire Nation would forward mail to the Earth Nation
@Matrim42 Жыл бұрын
The way birds are typically used as messengers is by taking them from their home. Then, when you release them with a message, they navigate back to where they came from. Birds are generally only useful in one direction to one location.

Sokka and Aang are like Mr Peanutbutter and Todd when they are together. And Sparky Boom man has a metal limb or two, but we only ever see Toph metalbending through direct contact. Dont think thats a high range ability. The ravens in A Song of Ice and Fire are trained for specific locations. If you want to send a letter to Winterfell, you give the raven who learned how to fly to Winterfell the letter. If you want to send a letter to Kings Landing, boom, theres the Kings Landing raven.

They don't know multiple destinations and/or cannot return to the place you released them to be able to return with a reply. They'd have to be physically brought back in order to 'reset" for the next message to be sent.

@kw15543 жыл бұрын
Highkey agree with the tired “two girls of the group don’t get along” trope... I mean, Toph and Katara get two episodes about them having on sight beef with each other over mostly nitpicky personality opposites, but Aang and Sokka don’t even have a single moment of stereotypical “two guys of the group butting heads over being the leader” trope?? Aside from that though, I do really love this episode for how much it adds to Katara and Sokka’s close sibling dynamic-especially with how Katara is the YOUNGER sister, but she still was forced to become a mother figure to Sokka. I feel like that’s really commonly see irl for the oldest girl siblings in many family dynamics lol.

For the bird messaging. Usually the way it works is you raise the birds in a specific location so they recognize it as home and then you gradually take them farther and farther way and release them and they'll return home and then when you want to send messages to people they'll take your birds that were raised at your home and you'll take their birds that were raised at their home and so when you let them go, they naturally return home.

I always took it as just being some alternative form of advanced Fire Bending, like shooting lightning. You have to learn it specifically and it's probably pretty complicated and not just anyone can do it. We've seen stuff like that before from other benders regardless of their element, like the Waterbenders that are healers instead of just using water or ice as weapons (or what happens in the next episode), or Toph bending metal instead of earth or stone.

I'm glad someone pointed this out but I wanna reiterate that Toph cannot bend all metals, more metal will come up in the future and people will wonder why it's not bendable lmao but purified metals aren't bendable. I guess the thing with earth being under the cell is the same for any element or prison structure for earth benders since it's technically everywhere but they cannot break out of it. I also think Toph's bending comes from her ability to "see" (seismic sense) and feel. If you notice, Toph's earthbending is different from other earthbenders largely because she is blind. Canonically earth bending is the most diverse form of bending and takes after vastly different martial arts to reflect the size and diversity of the Earth Kingdom compared to the other nations.
@RiseeRee3 жыл бұрын
Toph can’t bend all metals. Platinum and gold are too purified and don’t contain the smaller pieces of earth for her to sense. But I definitely questioned why they would have a random wooden cell in the Fire Nation. It’s plagued me since my early teens.

In a group, it will be inevitable that they will clash in some form or another, and we've seen Team Avatar go through it in the first 2 Seasons. Katara & Toph's clash was definitely inevitable because Katara prefers some order while Toph finally has the freedom from her family's strict household & wants to live it up (and grift the grifters). There are reasonable answers to every "plot hole" y'all pointed out in this one. This show is particularly good at not having any big plot holes in fact. Toph can only metal bend when touching the metal. Earth is similar. Earth benders can only bend when grounded. If Toph is stuck in a wooden box, even if there's earth a meter below her, she can't bend it. Some might point out that Bumi rejects this rule, which is true. I think the consensus is, that like Toph being the only earthbender who can bend metal, Bumi is the only earth bender who can bend without being grounded. Finally, why would Katara sweat, rather than pee? That's just for the PG rating lol. Can't have people fighting with bodily waste on Nickelodeon I guess.

While Katara is super cool and it's easy to imagine somebody falling for her for real, it's actually always bothered me a bit that they didn't to ANY examination whatsoever of the fact Aang is a 12 year old boy who was raised in an all male monastery and Katara was very literally the first girl he had seen in subjective years, not even counting his big sleep. Like just one episode please where he or Sokka say it out loud and maybe he tries checking out some other girls and then decides "actually no, Katara is in fact the coolest." The way their "romance" plays out in the show is actually my one complaint about the whole thing. Aang acts like he's entitled to reciprocation of his crush and Katara, after expressing that she's unsure about the whole thing, just kind of goes along with it at the end without ever verbalizing she's changed her mind? It's weird and kind of reinforces the whole "win the game, get the princess" entitlement thing a lot of guys have. It's not that I hate them together, just that I think the story could have been told in a better way. But it's not something we were talking as much about when this story was originally made - if the show were made today I feel like it might have been done just that slight bit differently to give Katara more agency in the whole thing.
