Final Fight 3 is actually my favorite out of the SNES trilogy, mostly because of the expanded roster, the expanded move set, and the ability to choose multiple paths through the game. The path branching is especially cool. I remembered liking it pretty well when I played it back in 1995, even though I had a PS1 at the time to play as well. While graphically it isn't as good as the older games, to me it's much more enjoyable to replay because of these features. It's usually the one I pick when I want to play one of the SNES FF games.

the first time I saw Final fight 3 , it was around 2000 and 2001 , in an arcade cabinet . when I said that to members of video games forum they don't believe me . they somehow managed to connect a Super Nintendo to the arcade hardware . years later , I discovered there was a 4 slot supernintendo with jamma connector for arcade cabinet

I liked final fight 3's expanded moveset and the more fluid nature. Being able to run and do cool moves and supers was enough innovation for it to not be a complete waste. You make fair points though.

I agree the expanded movesets make this game a lot of fun. I like most of Tophat's videos but all his complaining about the graphics irked me a bit on this one. The original Final Fight is an arcade game that is why it looks better than its' sequels, they did the best they could with the hardware.

I did play this one back in the day and the mechanics introduced along with smooth gameplay put it up above most 16-bit beat 'em ups at the time. Ragging on it because it has backgrounds that every beat 'em up has seems more like a critique of the genre and less on this specific game. Because, yeah, this is an aspect of most of them. It has smoother gameplay than most, a better character roster, introduces great fighting mechanics for the genre, multiple paths and endings, more than enough to make up for fairly generic backgrounds. If it didn't sacrifice graphics, and it doesn't look that bad compared to the first, you wouldn't have everything that was missing in the first Final Fight. It looks pretty impressive to me, given the hardware limitations. Definitely one of my favorite beat 'em ups and the best Final Fight on Super Nintendo, hands down. Thanks for featuring this game anyway though. Glad people are at least talking about it. It doesn't get talked about enough.
@MagillanicaLouM
@MagillanicaLouM 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the background critiques seemed more like looking for something to critique in the first place lol. It's fair when talking about the state of the genre at the time I guess but it still has all those differences that make it stand out and shouldn't be brushed off because of aesthetic trends the whole genre shares

I do know that since Final Fight 3 got released so late in the life of the Super Nintendo, Capcom USA did not produce too many copies of the game. I do not know what the supply situation was in Europe. I believe it is one of the best playing Final Fight games on the Super Nintendo.

I feel that Turtles in Time is the best beat ‘em up on the Snes, but this game is definitely in the top 3 beat ‘em ups for the console. I also didn’t appreciate him bashing Golden Axe 3 since it’s better than the first two in many ways. I tried playing Golden Axe 2, but the gameplay was too simple, and the graphics were too bland. The core gameplay of of Final Fight 3 and Golden Axe 3 are undeniably better than their predecessors, so his criticisms come off more as nitpicking.

Personally, I really liked Final Fight 3. It features one of the largest move set from the 90's and great cancelling properties on a lot of moves, so you have a lot of freedom for building your combos. Just controlling your character feels good. And having a cpu partner was such a nice addition!! I also enjoy the varied roster of playable characters. Now it has big flaws, I am aware of this. Mainly big and frequent slowdowns, only 3 enemies on screen at any time, so a much slower experience than what you're used to on cp systems. It's not meant to be compared to AvP, Cadillacs, The Punisher..., that's for sure, and it's also not as good as SOR2. But, and that's a big but, I don't think FF3 is generic. This is where I disagree with you. Final Fight 2 was generic, uninspired, slow and boring. Gameplay-wise, Final Fight 3 is its own thing. Only the atmosphere is generic (but it was almost expected at this point from this franchise). It's also quite balanced (albeit a bit on the easy side), so for me, that's an instant step above any Golden Axe. Probably my favorite Snes btu with Knights of the Round.

Me and many of my friends back in 1996 and throughout the late 90's LOVED playing this game together. Doing super moves was sick. Shame you didnt show off Lucia's, I know its not easy to do since its the only one that doesnt require you to hold your opponent. Dean's is the easiest in the game.

Even with all its faults, I still had a lot more fun with this game than the second entry. Not that FF2 was bad, but it was too much like FF1 and offered little aside 2 players co-op. I also really liked that I could play with an AI controlled 2nd player, it was a nice feature that's been rarely used, if at all, in other games of the genre.

Streets of Rage 3 is a way better game. Final Fight 3 can be beaten far to easily. 3 enemies on screen max and major slowdown in 2-Player mode. What's the point of playing 2-Player when there are only 3 enemies on screen and 1-Player can run through them like pylons on the hardest difficulty setting. The expanded movesets are great though and Guy is one of the funnest characters to play with in any beat em up. If this game was on more powerful hardware and could push 5-6 enemies on screen without slowdown it would have made a world of difference. Keep in mind this was a late December 95 release in the U.S. and a January 96 release in Japan. Literally came out 1 year and 9 months after Bare Knuckle 3. 2 years and 7 months after Golden Axe 3.

FF3 was my favorite of the three Final Fight games, and aside from TMNT was my favorite beat-em-up on the SNES. Lucia is my favorite character and I play almost exclusively as her whenever I play this game. I love the fact you can run, do Super moves and have a computer-controlled partner (even if said partner is dumb as rocks). I played the crap out of this back in college. It isn't SOR2, but it's the closest the SNES got, and that was cool.

Final Fight 3 is easily in my top 5 of the older, classic beat em ups. I love the super bar they added, plus I like the variety of moves that you can do with each character. My main issue with most older beat em ups is that you basically have just one attack button and do the same attack over and over again with no variety. If you ever do lesser-known beat em ups, I recommend Battle circuit (which can be found on the capcom beat em up bundle) and Sengoku 3 made by SNK

I actually rank Final Fight 3 above Turtles in Time as the top beat em up game on the SNES. They did a lot of things right with this game to compensate for the lackluster efforts with Final Fight, Final Fight Guy and Final Fight 2. Long story short: - A Final Fight game needs to have 2 player co-op at minimum - Both Guy and Haggar need to be selectable characters - Adding in AI co-op really elevates this game to a whole new level. Streets of Rage 2 still ranks as my all time favourite beat em up thanks to a more enjoyable move set and better music but Final Fight 3 did a lot of things right too.

First of all, great vid! Your work is helping me through this dark time. As for the game I personally feel FF3 is one of the best brawlers made. I will agree that it falls back onto tropes too much, and is ultimately less memorable than the original or my all time favourite SoR2, but the gameplay is just a joy. I will say it's a bit unfair to compare to ghe original arcade release. The CPS hardware was always leaps ahead of the home systems of the day, and I'd argue we wouldn't see arcade perfect ports of any of its games well into the Saturn's life.

I loved the Final Fight series. Final Fight 2 and 3 in particular were regular rentals for me due to their co-op play. I always had a fun time playing this game

Although it's a late release in the SNES' lifespan, I guess it enjoyed some sucess. It wouldn't have been ported to the Famicom by a pirate company if the original wasn't at least reasonably popular. And yes, I think the pirate Famicom version is a pretty good game for unlicensed game standards.

This video in a nutshell: I like Streets of rage more than Final Fight because of course...it is from Sega, but the reasons you give about what "nobody" played it are stupid, it is much more simple than that and it has nothing to do with the title quality (which is high, is the best FF on the SNES), most people left a console in its final years, and when you have a trilogy on the same console the last entry is ALWAYS the one that less people played and use to be less remenbered

Also, being a "tail ender" game, less copies were produced making this a HOT collectible. I'm glad to have never sold my complete copy even though it's far from mint.

And Capcom I think only porting this and the 2nd game once for the Wii eShop or whatever it was called back then. Since then, they only ever milk FF1 outside of Lucia in Street Fighter 5. They refuse to bring Maki back for some reason

As a bonus feature, there was a side scrolling beat-em up in The Warriors game. Considering how many 2D beat-em ups have been released since the mid 90's, I think that's all we're going to get. We should be thankful we even got a game based on, at the time of its release, a nearly 30 year old cult film, let alone a good game!

This was one of my most played SNES game, even my dad played it with me. Like most others have said, the gameplay/controls were some very high points that's hard to portray without playing it

Stage 3 is only short if you happen to break that sign at the end of the first map. That sign is for the bus stop and with the sign destroyed, the bus doesn't stop. keep the sign in tact though and the bus picks you up for an extended stage.

The thing about this game as I remember it and playing it again recently is that it doesn't really do anything spectacularly well or poorly. It's 'fine' just 'fine' and I enjoyed it, but for a 1995 SNES game it just didn't stand out.

Top Hat Gaming Man is right, I never played this one at all. At the time it came out I was learning about PSX/Saturn as well as learning how to buy import fighting games before they came out to the USA. The last Final Fight I ever played was 2 and the actual arcade machine waaay back in high school. In fact I have seen this when I used to buy a ton of PSX/Saturn games at places like Funcoland but I never thought about it. Sometimes I would confuse it with part 2 as I never really owned an SNES myself. Looks more of the same but I heard its the end of the SNES life cycle and after all they managed to squeeze SFA2 onto it. Im sure with the updated roster some cuts in graphical power were made. Still I wanna play it now lol!

Final Fight 3 was a unique beat-'em-up that was cool to me. I believe the reason it wasn't as popular is because of what you said that most gamers have moved on to the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. If Capcom had released both Final Fight 2 and 3 for the PlayStation and/or Saturn,I believe it would be pretty popular,not major but decent enough that most gamers would play it. I like the side-scrolling beat-'em-ups!

To me this is one of the most memorable games ive ever played. I can know if a sprite is from the game just looking at it and the same goes for the music. The sound is so unique. By far is the game i most played back then. Its a shame that you just keep saying that the game is generic over and over and just didnt realise that all the other games you compared are generics as well. Final fight 1 setted a standard very high, and final fight 3 is a sequel for the game that created it all. Theres no such thing as "generic" here. Is just an lookback on the classics. By the way, this game has the best controls for a snes beat'em up and the best soundtrack too

I remember getting and loving this game when it came out. But mostly because of the special moves and assuming (as a kid) that the fireball Guy can shoot in it was taught to him by Ryu and Ken. It’s still so weird to me that Dean is a street fighter yet he’s never appeared in a Street Fighter game. Even Lucia made in into SFV.

Well we kind of got a Warriors side scroller, with the Armies of the Night mini game once you finished the main story missions in the 2005 PS2 game. It was am homage to the original Double Dragon.

I rented FF3 back on the days and I seriously loved that game (specially the option to change paths acording to what you do in game, like the option to take the bus if you wait on stage 3) I didnt knew the game was not that known or played...
