Remember, in Parsh Toldot, Esau said he would wait until Isaac's death before killing Jacob. At the time Jacob left Haran, Esau knew Isaac was still alive. Therefore, there is no evidence that Esau coming with 400 men was for the purpose of harming Jacob. In fact, the Torah shows that Esau intended just a reunification with Jacob. Of course, Jacob didn't know this, but still, we should not allow the rabbis to falsely claim that Esau was intending to kill Jacob. That's slanderous to Esau!
