This was a good one! The alien device was absolutely fascinating! I don’t know if I’d call the events ghost or not, but definitely a strong idea for an episode.

Pretty much everyone dislikes Owen from the start, but this episode begins to show the more complex layers of his character. He’s genuinely troubled witnessing the rape and murder, and wants to see justice done. Then, after almost stabbing Norman himself, when the old man falls on the knife and lies there dying Owen immediately switches to doctor mode and makes an effort to save him. So despite his course demeanor most times there’s genuine compassion there.

"The 21st century is when it all changes" This refers to the 1964 classic Doctor Who story "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" which takes place in 2150 where the Daleks have enslave Earth, and the Third doctor's story "Day of the Daleks" where they go back.

This episode is one my favs maybe because it was a adult themed episode that didnt rely on sex unlike the last episode. It gets very dark and definitely something you couldnt do in doctor who at all. Its so creepy and chilling but it feels this is what Torchwood should be although not all the time

That's the point you start like Owen, yes he is sarcastic and prickly and an insensitive oaf quite often but deep down he has a good heart and there is a reason he is the way he is. I love how in Torchwood all characters are flawed, they all have a baggage to carry, they make mistakes and often they lose, they are just humans who try their best not superheroes.

I am so happy to watch you react to Torchwood; I love it so much, and while for sure there's some questionable bits or episodes, the character stories and emotional beats hit so hard as you go on. It's for sure one of my favorite shows

You'll probably hear it in the edit or in the future but Ianto's name is pronounced like Yantoe. Normally Ian would be E ann but it's a Welsh name.

Torchwood is one of those shows, like Dr Who, that improve with each viewing. I periodically re-watch both as there is always something new, plus the character development... I'm obsessed with this show, at least the 2 first seasons and Dr Who.

Not gonna lie, I'm not a huge fan of 'Torchwood' as a show, but I do absolutely adore this episode, I think it's one of the best in the show.

I think this episode is a great bit of character development for Owen! Definitely an underrated gem in this season. I like it even more upon rewatching and knowing more about who Owen is.

If the machine was tapping into residual emotional energy left behind, then it should only be able to show the perspective of the source of those emotions. So, in order to see what our protagonists saw, it seems there would have to be residual emotions from another person who witnessed the lost child, or the assault/murder. Otherwise, the perspective that Owen saw, should have been from either the victim or the attacker. Unless, of course, the machine is designed to extrapolate a third perspective... I suppose any excuse is fine as long as we're making shit up, right? ;-]
